DIY Fall DreamCatcher Door

Okay, DIY friends! I know it’s been a while. Life has been a little crazy so it feels like forever since I’ve had the time to do something DIY related myself but it’s beginning to get crafty over here! With Fall comes routine. Loving it! I’m kicking off autumn with this beautiful DIY fall dreamcatcher wreath (door or wall decor) tutorial! Here we go:

DIY Fall DreamCatcher Wreath Tutorial

What I used for the DIY Fall DreamCatcher Wreath Tutorial:

small hula hoop (check the clearance sections this time of year! I got mine at Michael’s Craft Store)
doily (affiliate link) to fit inside (a bit smaller than the hoop so that it can stretch to fit)
string
assorted ribbons, lace trim, twine, decorate rope, etc.
fall florals (separated using wire cutters)
hot glue gun and glue

DIY Fall DreamCatcher Wreath Tutorial // What I did:

I tied string to the outermost scalloped edges of the doily.

Then using hot glue, secured one end of the string to the hula hoop, one end to the next, careful to keep it centered and pulled tight. This just temporarily holds the string in place for the next step.

Next, I tied the doily to the hoop with knots all the way around. Trim ends

I then covered the hula hoop using 4 inch wide ribbon, securing the beginning and end with hot glue.

Then cut different ribbons, lace trim, twine, etc. into desired lengths and add to the bottom of the dreamcatcher.

I had to look it up but I used a lark’s head/cow hitch type knot to secure the ribbon to the wreath.

Last step! I simply glued on some fall florals.

Ta-da!

It’s gorgeous! And lightweight but a nice BIG size! I am in love! Looks beautiful on a wall…

…and makes for a gorgeous and unique door wreath!!!

Springtime in Paris vignette {Enter to win a trip to Paris!}

I sure wish it was springtime in western PA but until that day arrives (hopefully sometime in the very near future), I’m enjoying the Michael’s Makers March challenge: “Springtime in Paris”. I paired pretty French script pillows with a pretty DIY springtime arrangement in a decoupaged French script vase with matching frame to bring a little “Springtime in Paris” to our home.

Supplies:

Shop Home Decor and Floral at Michaels

tin vase
decoupage
French printed tissue paper
foam paint brush

How to:

Working in sections. Brush on a coat of decoupage.

Due to the shape of my tin vase, I applied strips of tissue paper in layers.

Apply one strip to the wet decoupage, smoothing out the wrinkles (carefully to avoid tearing the tissue paper) then move on to the next section and repeat.

Once the entire vase is covered, brush on another coat of decoupage. You can repeat and add more decoupage layers if you want. The more layers, the better protection.

Let dry. The metallic sheen shines through. Love that happy surprise!

Now arrange your favorite spring time florals. I love this collection of faux teals, oranges and purples with greenery.

Gorgeous! Spring is right around the corner!

I added a bit of tissue paper and French language flash card to a frame {le jardin = garden}, some things from around the house and pillows (also available at Michael’s) to complete my Springtime in Paris vignette.

Wall Mounted Lantern Hanger

As a member of the Lowe’s Creative Ideas team, I participate in monthly DIY challenges. The challenge I chose for July is DIY decor with a DIY wall mounted lantern hanger.

Materials I used:

1/2 x 6 x 2 red oak craft board
RustOleum Ultimate Wood Stain (color is kona)
RustOleum Ultimate Polyurethane (matte finish)
3 black extendable curtain rod brackets
3/4 wood screws
hanging hardware (or screws and anchors to more permanently attach to the wall/for extra security)
3 lanterns (Allen + Roth lanterns)
candles or small potted succulents/plants

Here’s what I did:

1. Stain the wood plank by brushing stain on in the direction of the wood grain, let sit a few minutes and wipe away (same direction) with clean rags. Let dry one hour.

2. Apply a coat or two of polyurethane and let dry. It goes on with a milky look but dries transparent.

3. Attach hanging hardware to the back. I did two; one on each end.

4. Flip to the front stained side and attach the curtain rod brackets using 1/4″ screws (the screws that come with the brackets will be too deep). I measured and marked the center bracket first then measured the center from the edge to the center bracket on each side for the other two ‘hooks’.

5. Adjust the brackets to fit the depth of hanging a lantern on the hook.

6. Hang or secure to the wall.

7. Hang lanterns. Add candles, use as mini display cases to showcase your favorite small decorative items or use lanterns as mini-greenhouses for succulents or small plants.

Easy DIY Indoor Outdoor Honeycomb Wall Art

As a member of the Lowe’s Creative Ideas team, I have the opportunity to participate in monthly DIY challenges. One of the themes for April is outdoor wall art. I just happen to have a bare outdoor wall. This easy DIY indoor/outdoor honeycomb wall art project is super easy and perfect for decorating an outdoor wall in our covered party patio area.

Materials I used:

Style Selections Drawer Organizer x 3
Valspar Outdoor Spray Paint (colors: 1-Koi Pond and 1-Peacock Blue)

What I did:

I spray painted the pieces of the drawer organizers (not assembled) using Valspar Outdoor Spray Paint. I sprayed one side Peacock Blue and let dry about 6 hours then flipped and sprayed the other side Koi Pond and let dry overnight.

Once the paint was dry, I assembled my pieces. The honeycomb-shaped organizers simply snap together. No tools required!

Since I have 3 sets, I assembled two sets with closed ends and one with open ends (both options shown on pamphlet with instructions included in the box).

You could even leave them white = the only DIY is snapping them together! I hung mine using Command outdoor light clips.

They’re very light weight so not ideal for displaying heavy items but a great way to add color, dimension and interest to an otherwise plain outdoor or even indoor wall. I tucked in a few succulents for now.

My covered patio area still hasn’t been cleaned up for summer. I just grabbed some accessories for photo-staging. Pardon the leaves and dirt!

The outdoor hexagon/honeycomb wall art is going to look great on that back wall when the patio is cleaned up. See the patio when it IS ready for summer lounging and entertaining here.

Eclectic Guest Bedroom Ideas

When I shared our family room and kitchen in the What’s Your Style Series, one style those rooms (and all rooms in my home) share is “eclectic”.

When you do what you love, specifically on a small budget; thrift stores, flea markets, estate sales, yard sales and Craigs List become favorite sources for unique, eclectic decor. Our guest bedroom is no exception.

and a mix of old and new.

Small budget? Wrap a canvas you already own with pretty wrapping paper to freshen up old decor.

Layer the bed with a folded top sheet topped with a throw blanket. Cat optional.

Eclectic: mismatched furniture, a mix of pattern and colors, collected-over-time gallery wall, DIY accents, a painted floor and flea market finds.

I’m in the process of planning a re-do on our other guest room/dressing room. Our master bedroom is a disaster since the day we moved in but always seems to get pushed further down the priority list. What’s your style and favorite bedroom in your home?
