Project Diary #12 Christmas at the Studio

It’s Christmas as the studio! Since we can’t put life on hold, let’s ignore the unfinished projects and enjoy a festive look at the holiday cheer in a mostly finished space. A place where we share DIY home ideas and creating a beautiful home begins with a healthy environment.

Remember that Succulents & Spruce Christmas tree? It’s a beautiful focal point to the studio living room area. I love the colors and rustic nature vibe in this space. A grapevine star against a window in the daytime is hard to photograph but trust me, it makes for a perfect topper! And I love the pop of color from these coppery-orange ornaments. Gold glitter feathers! My favorite sparkle accent for this nature themed tree. There’s lots of extra leafy garlands to give it a fuller look too. Did you notice? And there’s Northern Lights Black Spruce essential oil in the diffuser ornament giving it a beautiful pine scent! When you can’t have fresh pine, this is a great option! Smells amazing! A fluffy comfy throw as a tree skirt makes me want to curl up under there to enjoy the starry-night glow! The mantel is all decorated for celebrating Happy Holidays! Isn’t it gorgeous? Those fairy lights in glass ornaments are my favorite tucked into lush pine forest garland is just so magical!

And the porch and stairs are on the ‘to-do’ list but a grapevine wreath with holly berries and red velvet bow with poinsettias greets our guests at the door. Oh! The first sneak peek! There is now vinyl decal lettering on the windows to share with our community what’s going on! Wellness Inspired Living is what it’s all about, creating a home that promotes a better you and a healthy home environment for your family. Well-being. The entryway still needs painted (or maybe even a pretty wallpaper accent wall with a bench and decor – so many ideas!) but I used what I have on hand to give it a welcoming atmosphere. The studio is a place in our downtown where we gather for discussing living above the wellness line, to get together to support one another, for education and fun times. It’s also an available meeting space for small/home business//women in business. My 4-year-old grandson took this next photo. I think he did a pretty good job! I love the antique door knob from a little one’s perspective. With lots of holiday events on the calendar, a “Selfies with Santa”//holiday photo backdrop and props is getting lots of use and laughs! So fun! Before the photo backdrop…this wall featured the quote scroll but was moved to the entryway. Aroma Freedom Technique happens in this room (although via video chat too) – achieve your goals! xo Time for entertaining my friends! Some photos, ideas and settings from some recent events: Wine and chocolate. This photo might represent entertaining AND for personal use as well. hahaha!

Yay! Another sneak peek. You saw them from the outside above and I haven’t revealed the workshop area yet but this grid of windows is amazing for it’s natural light! The shelving area above a hot beverage station…this room has no natural light but I love it’s function. Beverage center, back door, coat room, hallway. Mantel deer…did I mention I can’t get enough of GOLD lately. How about you? Okay, friends! THIS IS THE BEST SNEAK PEEK….I am in LOVE with how the workshop area is coming along. This table gathers friends for DIY craft time, make & takes, wellness education, iTOVI scans and small parties! Those dark moody walls paired with the barn wood walls (not shown below) and that grid of 9 beautiful windows that sold me on this studio and tempt me to want to LIVE in this room! I’ll share more specific details in the upcoming before/after reveal but wow, right? So so pretty! Or maybe you need to see the before to appreciate it like I do. You’ll have to stop back soon. ::wink wink:: This Desert Mist diffuser is amazing! I absolutely love the candle flicker mode and diffusing settings. You can get it HERE. You need it! You’ll LOVE it! I don’t miss burning candles one bit. That’s saying a lot! I was a brand name candle junkie! I love that I can easily and frequently change up the scent, mood, health benefits…just take a look at more info. I’m so grateful a friend shared with me and feel compelled to pass it on. The workshop transformation. It’s my favorite!

The building has so much historical charm. It’s about one block from our town’s Main Street. The bus stop is literally steps away. There’s a gorgeous Butler, PA Bed & Breakfast across the street called Suite Retreat (how cute is that?!) and an antique shop nearby. There are breweries, the YMCA, shops, restaurants, salons, florists, candy/coffee shop, holiday parades and festivals within walking distance. So fun! If renovation from blah to ahhhhh is your thing, stay tuned!

‘Tis the season to be jolly! And healthy! And if you’re wondering where to even start with a healthier lifestyle, here’s my story. As you know, I’m a DIY girl. No fear about diving in and giving things a try. So doing the same when it comes to wellness made sense to me. This is what got me started, raised awareness and made a difference in my lifestyle:

Is what you put into your body important to you? I‘m pretty sure by now that you’ve heard a lot about essential oils, right? ::groan:: and ::eye roll:: <— that was my initial reaction too! lol! What IS all the fuss about? Let me share it with you as short and sweet as I can why essential oils are all the rage for me personally. (Some affiliate links below.)

I am so forver grateful someone shared with me: When I first heard, I thought it was some temporary popular trend and I tuned it out. la-la-la-la-la!!!!!! But nearly 4 years ago on a blogging retreat, two of my blog buddies shared essential oils with me…I have a bit of an issue with traveling which causes some uncomfortable side effects (TMI! you don’t want to know) and the essential oil shared made all the difference! Oh.my.good.NESS! If it worked for that, how else? In my world at the time, my mom and sister were going through treatments for breast cancer. I was ready and open to making healthier choices. Baby steps. Just starting somewhere.

You guys, I’ve had 6 family members diagnosed with cancer in SIX years! I felt so helpless!

Essential oils have been around FOREVER and I know that lately they’re ALL THE HYPE but I believe it’s because word of mouth spreads faster these days via social media. They aren’t new. And specifically, Young Living has been around going on 30 years! I was still practically a child (and I’m a grandma now!). That’s not anything bright and shiny and just born. And “Young Living” is THE BRAND everyone wants. Because guess what? Not all essential oils are created equal! What I really love about Young Living is their Seed to Seal Guarantee. They aren’t just buying from a supplier and slapping on a label. One other quick point about Young Living…unlike buying a cheap oil from Amazon or WalMart or even TJMaxx (be aware: even a label with 100% pure doesn’t mean that’s the case), I love that I have support, resources and testimonials from personal experiences to help guide me on my oily journey. I’ve never had to work about my health but now I’m empowered to research, to learn more and to embrace wellness. When someone tells me they tried an essential oil and it didn’t work, I’m pretty sure they tried a fragrance or lower grade, not the quality of Young Living essential oils.

Nostalgia: Something that is really important to me … creating an environment for my sweet grandson that’s FREE of toxins. Know what else I really love? What is an essential oil anyway? My first uneducated thought: “oh, some air freshening junk that maybe helps you relax, snake oils for hippies”. An essential oil is the substance created by plants for protection against damage, injury, predators, environmental/weather changes. And they work for humans (oh and my dog and that horse too) in much the same way. Whoa! I certainly never imagined that essential oils had powerful health benefits. What? Why haven’t we heard about them before? Why didn’t I know that I could grab an essential oil for relief or health support in so many ways without the synthetic chemicals or side effects? The answer to that is an involved blog post for another day but just because I never knew, doesn’t mean it isn’t so. Essential oils were one of the first medicines! I’m learning so much and I’m so thankful that my friends DID share with me because it’s made a HUGE difference in our lifestyle, our health, our finances and our home.

Again, why Young Living brand? Top Essential Oils for DIY lovers

Hello fellow DIY lovers!!!

With the studio renovation in progress (follow #helloredreno), I’ve never been so grateful for the power of essential oils! As a DIY enthusiast, I always have one project or another going on and as a DIY blogger, the process from start to finish takes a little longer. Know what I mean? I ALWAYS ALWAYS have my essential oils within reach! Why would it even matter? Well, here are some of my favorite must have essential oils when it comes DIY.

Peppermint Vitality – energize! Add a drop to morning coffee or a cold glass of water (be prepared – it’s powerful). It’s gonna wake you up!

Diffuse for an energizing scent and to enhance concentration…that tip “measure once, cut twice”? It’s so easy to work on auto-pilot and make mistakes. I don’t know about you, but sometimes I need a poke to bring me back to mental clarity and alertness.

Peppermint is also cooling. I like to add a couple of drops to a 2 oz. spray bottle. Spritz the back of my neck when working in the heat or feeling overheated. It’s so refreshing. Store it in the fridge. A must have for working outdoors in the summer!

DIY Cooling Mist

Paint fumes? I always opt for a low or no VOC but the smell of paint can be brutal. Add 10-15 drops or so of Citrus Fresh to a gallon of paint to help neutralize the strong odor.

Carpet freshener: I like to mix 5-10 drops in a cup of baking soda to create a DIY carpet freshener. Sprinkle before bed, vacuum in the a.m. LOVE it! (Purification or Citrus Fresh).

Speaking of fresh. Choose a scent you love (lavender would work too!) and freshen up the mattress!

Lavender: Life can be crazy and busy. Sometime my brain has trouble turning off at the end of the day when there’s so much going on. Lavender in a relaxing bath, on my feet and temples. I like to keep a DIY linen mist spray bottle on the night stand.

Lemon – cleaning power! Sticky residue? A drop of lemon oil will dissolve the sticky mess like magic!

DiGize – When we’re working on a DIY big project, meal time is usually on the go or last priority which means we’re grabbing something quick and it’s not always a healthy choice. DiGize is my best friend and I’m never without it! NEVER! I either apply topically around my belly button or for faster relief, I will add a drop to water (1 oz – shot glass size), hold my nose and ‘down the hatch’. Instant results!

PanAway + Copaiba – after a long day, DIY can be quite the work out. Vibrations from power tools = stiff arms. I’ll usually add a drop of PanAway to a squirt of V6 (carrier oil) and just rub it in as needed. Soooo soothing! Tip: Add a drop of Copaiba to magnify!

Stress Away – Dealing with complicated project details, timelines, budgets, things not working out as planned? “Stress Aways” says it all. They should sell it by the gallon. Bathe in it! Sprinkle some on yourself. Douse your spouse. Whatever it takes. This smells amazing too…a little like vacation to me. You need it!

Clean up: Thieves Household Cleaner is the best clean cleaner out there, in my opinion. This cleaning concentrate has no harsh chemicals and packs a powerful punch of cleanup and your lungs will thank you!

Yardsale Finds and Repurposing

Repurpose something old! It’s that time of year! It’s a great time to hit the yard sales and estate sales. Scoop up fun inspiration for making something old new again. Check out these repurposed, upcycled and refreshed ideas!

Chandelier – one of my favorite DIY projects from the past. It does require a lot of TLC for the plants. I also love the idea of solar lights in place of plants.
