Easy Personalized DIY Ornaments

Making up a personalized DIY ornament doesn’t have to be super involved, complicated or expensive. As a part of the Lowe’s Creative Ideas December challenge, I grabbed these decorative ceiling medallion inserts from Lowe’s…easy personalized DIY ornaments @diyshowoff

Bonus: they were on sale. Check out the price…

Make up a pretty matching complete gift set with a mix of personalized ornaments using the photo/frame insert, paint the decorative one in coordinating colors and add in a few mirrored inserts (attach a monogram sticker).

Supply suggestions: photos, old holiday cards, wrapping paper or scrap book paper, alphabet stickers for monograms, paint, glitter, ribbon.

What I did:

I cut out scrapbook paper circles to fit in the photo/frame decorative ceiling medallion inserts x 4.

I added metallic gold lettering to spell “N – O – E – L”.

You know that as soon as I have printed pictures of the baby, grandma will be swapping out “NOEL” for grand baby bragging photos instead. How nice that they can then be displayed all year long then? Love it!

I received a Lowe’s gift card to put towards this challenge. Opinion and above idea is 100% my own. More DIY ideas at Lowe’s Creative Ideas or follow Lowe’s on InstagramPinterest and sign up for the Creative Ideas magazine and app.

Yarn Wrapped Reindeer {Secret Santa Blog Tour}

Yarn Wrapped Paper Maché Reindeer Head Tutorial

Yarn Wrapped Reindeer {Secret Santa Blog Tour}

But first – Hellooo, DIY friends! I have the pleasure of participating in a fun secret Santa blog hop organized by my sweet friend, Dria at DIO Home Improvements. Dria is a hard working, generous and talented blog friend with a big heart.

DIO Home Improvements

I was lucky enough to be Dria’s randomly chosen secret Santa. Here’s the DIY gift I made for her, hand-wrapped with love:

A yarn-wrapped paper maché reindeer head. Isn’t he cute? I loved the earthy tones in the super soft acrylic/wool blend yarn. I think he’ll be a great holiday decorative accent in her beautiful home.  DIY secret Santa gift @diyshowoff

Materials: purchased from Michaels Craft Store

  • 1 skein of yarn (the thicker the yarn, the less work)
  • paper maché reindeer head
  • hot glue

Tutorial: It’s pretty self-explanatory. I started with wrapping the reindeer face, securing where needed with hot glue. The curved areas are a little tricky!

Then moved on to the antlers and ears, wrapping a large vertical portion then coming back and doing smaller areas.

I hot glued any loose ends, adjusting yarn to cover paper maché where needed. And voila!

Then I simply added a gift tag, tucked in a few Yankee Candle pine scented ornaments, packed him up and shipped special delivery.

Giving is the best part of a secret Santa gift exchange, isn’t it? Getting a gift in return is icing on the cake and boy oh boy does my secret Santa know how to create, if you know what I mean.

Thank You

Along the same reindeer theme, Christy from Our Southern Home whipped up this beautiful chevron reindeer accent pillow. Just for me, you guys! Metallic gold chevron. Reindeer silhouette. I love it!

DIY Essential Oils Sugar Scrub

DIY Essential Oils Sugar Scrub Recipe

I recently held an essential oils holiday open house for my Young Living essential oils team and first time guests. One of the activities involved creating some DIY gifts. I’ll be sharing the recipes here and there in the next coming weeks for holiday gift ideas as well as tips for hosting such a party.

Ingredients:

  • 4 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons melted coconut oil
  • 2 tablespoons carrier oil (such as grape seed oil, jojoba oil, olive oil, etc.)
  • approx. 8 drops of essential oil of your choice
  • 4 oz. container, label, gift tag, ribbon, etc.

Directions: Add drops of essential oil to sugar in a small bowl. Mix well until combined. Add carrier oil to melted coconut oil (I use a double boiler.). Slowly add the oil mixture to the sugar mixture while stirring constantly. Carefully transfer to a small gift container like a glass jelly jar. (Mixture will harden a little as it sits, melt easily when exposed to warm hands and heat.) Decorate and embellish container. Get creative! I used a round chalkboard label on the canning jar lid and added a small spoon tied with a ribbon.

Makes 1 gift sized amount. Increase ingredients to make a bulk sized batch.
