Ready for a ‘Suite Thyme’? There’s a new place to stay in downtown Butler, PA. Suite Thyme (AirBnB) is officially open for guests!

Created with the help DIYShowOff partnerships, the second story of this 1890s home boasts a trendy newly renovated efficiency apartment loaded with charm, located just steps from the main thoroughfare of downtown Butler’s best eateries, antique shops, breweries and more. Perfect for festival-goers and travelers looking to enjoy a small town vibe just approximately 30 miles north of Pittsburgh, PA.

1st story…

Located on the main floor, Wellness Inspired Living is a quiet, by-appointment-only wellness workshop providing Aroma Freedom Technique, small chemical free living/healthy lifestyle events, reiki, relaxation sessions, iTovic scans and more. We’ll always let you know if there’s something scheduled during your stay and you’re always welcome to join in, free of charge, if interested.

2nd story…

This 2nd floor eclectic space is the efficiency apartment “Suite Thyme”. It’s loaded with personality and beautiful style. Inviting, warm and welcoming, all ready for your next trip to Butler!

One bedroom, two beds!

Sleeping arrangements include 2 queen beds in the bedroom + a queen sleeper sofa (officially sleeps 6) in the living room for peaceful night’s rest and sweet dreams,

Cook up your favorite meal with local veggies from the farm market in a beautiful fully equipped modern kitchen area.

Coffee (tea, hot cocoa), anyone? Help yourself to the complimentary coffee bar. You may even find snacks in the pantry area. Open the cupboards. Get familiar. Make yourself at home!

Dine…

Downtown Butler is home to multiple restaurants with an eclectic menu ranging from your favorite comfort foods to gourmet dining. Ask about our favorites! But there’s room for 4 at the dining table, with additional seating for 3 at the breakfast bar if you’re staying in and whipping up a meal or ordering delivery.

Unwind!

Kick back on the comfy sofa with the tv remote. Choose your subscription and favorite shows utilizing the Smart TV feature or browse the limited selection on a very basic cable package. Or connect your phone to the blue tooth speaker and pump up the volume!

Quiet time!

Curl up in the cozy egg chair on the landing nook with a good book or your tablet and favorite game.

Soak your worries away!

Bathroom updates include the original but refinished vintage clawfoot tub for soaking away the tension. Escape! When was the last time you had a relaxing bath? It also offers up the traditional or handheld shower option. Bath bomb, fresh fluffy towels and bath essentials provided. PLUS! Suite Thyme has a la carte options including several ritual baths – baths with intention, herbs and essential oils. Coming soon!

Wedding weekend:

“My husband and I booked Roeshel’s place for our wedding weekend. We used the space to get ready in and as a retreat after our long exciting wedding day. Her space is decorated beautifully with many amenities for her guests to use. One feature my make-up artist loved was the long table/desk with built in charging station – convenient!

Not only did she go above and beyond with her communication and little touches but she also surprised us, not once but twice! When we arrived the morning of our wedding she had laid out a little welcome platter of fruits and drinks with a congratulations sign hung on the fire place mantle. She also drew up a cute little note on the calendar on the refrigerator!

When we arrived back to the space late that night after having the most perfect wedding day, we were greeted with another surprise. The entry way and stairs leading up to the AirBnB had been decorated with rose petals and electric candles. This led to a decorated romantic set up outside the apartment door along with chocolates, drinks and chilled glasses. We cried. It was the most perfect ending to the beautiful day we had just shared. It meant the world to us.

Her thoughtful touches, ultra clean + super hip space and her timely communication make this easily the best place to stay in the Butler area. If you are in town or just want a little stay-cation I can’t encourage you enough to book Roeshel’s space!”

Helloooooo DIY lovin’ friends! It’s time for an annual recap of the year’s best DIY projects at DIYShowOff.

Best DIY of 2019

As you know if you’re a DIYShowOff fan, back in 2017 I purchased a building for my wellness studio, a space for wellness workshops, sharing my passion for essential oils, Aroma Freedom Technique, relaxation, reiki sessions and creating a chemical free home. Because I feel that creating a beautiful home begins with providing a safe environment for our families.

My studio space is located on the first floor. We have so much fun there learning and gathering! I always knew that I’d want to create a short term rental, AirBnb, type space on the empty under-utilized second story. I assumed I’d complete the project much like our home DIY, putting in the effort as time and money allowed. But as a year passed without any progress, I took the plunge in 2019 and invested in getting ‘er done!

So my 2019 recap includes one room makeover from our home mixed in the highlights below but is mostly comprised of a lot of blood, sweat, tears and a labor of love at the apartment space we call “Suite Thyme” with the help of 1) Steve, my daughter’s fiancé who contributed a huge part of the hard labor (thank you, Steve!) and 2) Shelby, a dear friend and brilliant entrepreneur who offered up valuable guidance and mentorship (thank you, Shelby!) , 3) the encouragement of friends and family and last but not least, 4) a loving supportive hubby, my Mr. DIY (thank you, Russ!).

Let’s get this crazy trip down memory lane started!

Entryway

The entryway before was dull. It got a new coat of paint, a few new accessories and a new chandelier; the stairs, new carpeting. Not a huge transformation, just some freshening up of the existing original charm.

Stair Landing

The stair landing is the ‘indoor porch’ area of the apartment. It’s a decent size but had no personality.

Now it’s one of my favorite places for a quiet ‘get away’ and a cozy tranquil reading nook for guests.

Floral Wallpaper Mural

One of the things I absolutely LOVE about the Suite Thyme renovation is the creative freedom and this floral wallpaper mural tutorial is hands down one of my favorite decorative choices. Bold and beautiful!

Sunroom

Back to our home for a second. Russ has been slowly working on creating a man cave space in the basement and when he worked his way with paint up the stairs, we continued with it into the sun room for a fresh new look.

Happy New Year

Now onto 2020! We’ll be back to some DIY, room makeovers and decorating at our home sweet home. On the to-do list: completing a mancave including murphy door into a bathroom, pretty much a bathroom renovation on every floor in our home (3 of them to be exact), freshening up the other rooms, decluttering, organizing and now that Russ completed the pathway through an outdoor enchanted forest – think twinkly fairy lights, landscaping, hammocks and garden projects. Looking forward to it all!

Holiday DIY/Decor Favorites from Christmas Past

Deck the halls with boughs of holly, fa-la-la….let me explain. It’s early, yes. And I am all about Thanksgiving – being thankful, counting blessings, turkey feast with all the trimmings with family doesn’t get forgotten. But there’s a lot going on this month with birthdays, a wedding, a countdown to a two week vacation AND Christmas decorating at the studio and apartment because it will be a part of our local symphony’s holiday tour of homes fundraiser as well as decorating at home. That means: it’s time to dig out the Christmas decor and get busy!

Holiday DIY/Decor Favorites from Christmas Past

So I thought I’d gather up a few of my past favorite DIY holiday decorating photos from Christmas past for inspiration and to refresh my memory of what’s in all of those boxes stored in the attic and what I might need to add to a shopping list.

Oh yea! A Christmas tree farm inspired dining room. Classic red and green. I love that vintage red truck, pine trees, string lights and plaid tablecloth. Definitely something to keep back for decorating our home.

DIY NOEL Wall Art

Birds & Berries Christmas Tree

Originally a tree in our family room, but this year I’m cutting back to only one Christmas tree at home and this birds & berries theme fits right in with the things I’ve already mentioned. Shopping the attic is working out for decorating our home this year!

Succulents & Spruce Christmas Tree

Last year I used this coppery gold succulent beauty at the studio and I plan to do the same this year. I love the mix of copper and gold, oranges with evergreen. I might add touches of red and switch things up above the built in bookcases and on the mantel.

Ombre Christmas Tree // No Sew DIY Ruffled Tree Skirt

Ah, yes. The turquoise/aqua/mint ornaments with ruffled no-sew tree skirt. I haven’t used these decorations in a few years but I think they’ll complement the navy/mint studio workshop well and look wonderful in front of the grid of 9 windows.

These ornaments were so easy to make and so cute!
