Cottages & Bungalows Magazine Feature!

I was super excited when my stairwell/landing makeover… stairwell makeover

{see the full stairwell/landing transformation here}

won this back in January/February:

DIY Talent Scouting Party

Wahooo! I was so touched when you shared my excitement and excuse my beaming with pride and sharing today. It’s a “my highlight of the year” type of experience and the June issue is out!

I’ve “e-known” Amy from WhisperWood Cottage for several years. She is such a sweet blog friend and super talented (have you seen her beautiful home filled with gorgeous flea market finds and amazing DIY decor?). Once the announcement was made and I stopped screaming, I got to “talk” with Jickie (awesome!) who interviewed me/asked questions about my project and wrote up my article while I submitted my pictures. See my name?!! SO exciting!

(Tip: Always, always keep the large original format of your photos and edit/resize a copy for blogging just for this reason. Pictures for print require a larger size. Images on your blog should be resized smaller for speed with loading/storage reasons.)

My stairwell wants to show off…looky!

Cottages & Bungalows Magazine - DIY Show Off

Periodic party themes for upcoming issues of Cottages & Bungalows Magazine will be announced at WhisperWood Cottage. Bloggers (that’s YOU!) can link up projects that relate to that theme during the availability period. After the availability period ends, a list of top contenders for the magazine feature will be announced. From the top contenders, a final project will be selected as the winner of an upcoming feature in Cottages & Bungalows Magazine. You can pop over to WhisperWood Cottage now to see the “All Things Kitchen” contenders. Congratulations to those talented blog friends and their creative projects!

Mark your calender and think ahead! The theme for July will be Halloween/Fall!

Knowing that my blog friends will be featured in Cottages & Bungalows in the future meant I couldn’t subscribe fast enough. Donna from Funky Junk Interiors and Rita from This (sorta) Old Life are next and trust me, you don’t want to wait for it to be on the shelf in stores. It’s hard to find and you’ll have to wait.

Thrifty Treasures

I love spring and nicer weather because it means time for yard sales“! This past weekend, my daughter and I stopped by a few in addition to an estate auction. I didn’t get much but here are some of my treasures…

an old vintage clock face…

I haven’t set the clocks yet…oops!

There are never any AA batteries when you need them and I felt it best not to ‘borrow’ from the remote control. 😉  The clock face on the wall is the one I purchased.

DIY vintage mantel

Ever since Aimee from It’s Overflowing shared this image from Martha Stewart Weddings in the DIY Project Parade, (thanks so much, Aimee – I can’t stop thinking about copying this for a centerpiece in my favorite colors…)

colorful candlesticks

{no, no wedding plans…I’m already married to a wonderful man! I just love the look.} I’ve been collecting wooden candlesticks (+ a wooden tray)…

Wisteria used to sell these vintage elephant bells…

and I found my own cute little vintage brass elephant bell with a beautiful patina. I love the sound!

and because I might want to ‘work out’ (ha! haha!) these fun vintage dumbbells…

I’ve also recently scored another outdated chandelier that will get a coat of spray paint and a little chicken wire accessorizing. And clothes. One of these days the girls and I will do a fashion show. Most of our favorite things are from thrift stores.

What have you found lately? Feel free to leave a link to your thrift store/flea market/yard sale finds in the comments…we want to see. Then join me in linking up at Rhoda’s fun party:

Add color to a rug

I recently purchased this indoor/outdoor area rug from Joss & Main to use right inside our French doors in the kitchen. For double French doors, I like having large mat.

Join Joss & Main here {affiliate link: each time a friend joins through my link, I earn credit…so thank you} – exclusive deals on awesome decorating finds for members. When doing a Google search for this area rug, the best price I saw was $89. Joss & Main price: $49! Events change frequently but there are always great prices!

I love the pattern and colors but it was missing just a touch of red with the accents we’ve been adding…

red dresser makeover

I painted the microwave cart {dresser} and “Farmer’s Market” sign using Deco Art’s Americana acrylic craft paint “Tuscan Red”. Yes, I used acrylic craft paint on the dresser (it’s okay – it’s sealed and I just LOVE this shade of red). You didn’t think it was for crafts only, did you? Sometimes I’m such a rebel. ha!

adding color to a rug

With the same paint, I went over some of the sage green design in the area rug to give it just a little more color. Nothing major but it ties in a lot better…

Perfect!

Another fun way to add color to a door mat is with the Vecco welcome rug kit. What’s Vecco?

It is a kit for creating rugs and carpets inspired by you. With stencils, colorant sprays and sealants, you make custom designs that’ll tie any room together – you choose the design. You choose the color!
