In-Ground Swimming Pool Installation: Our Story

With a halt on our traveling these last few years, we decided to create our own little resort at home by installing an in-ground pool. It’s not the same as vacationing to our favorite tropical locations but we’re now swimming pool owners and enjoying playtime and our backyard paradise more than ever!

Decision time:

To be honest, it took me a little while to warm up to the idea of being a swimming pool owner. I knew they came with a hefty price tag and require maintenance. However, after looking at options, my Mr. DIY’s ability to influence and inspire me to get on board (thanks, honey!), our daydreams and designs, I quickly got on board with visions of family fun and pool parties and changing up our outdoor living spaces.

Add to that, a future son-in-law who’s family is in the pool business. We thank you, Steve at Country Pools and Spas! I am so grateful for his patience, reassurance, and answers to probably way too many texts!

I’ve never owned a swimming pool and didn’t grow up with one so I didn’t know what to expect. It seemed overwhelming and very involved for someone who has no clue. But when all is said and done, I feel like most of our choices made for an easier experience over the long term. We’ve spent more time together. We enjoy using it for relaxing. Crank up the heat and we enjoy it as therapy!

Our pool install story:

If you’re like me with no idea what it all means, you may have a better idea going in. I’ve included a few affiliate links for some of our favorite finds too. Let’s go.

(Of course, this is just me reporting all that I witnessed at this point, my words on the process…not meant for a tutorial or instructions. I’m no expert! Your experience may be completely different!)

Time frame:

When the company says they can install in 1 day…that doesn’t mean you have a completed finished ‘Better Homes & Gardens’ magazine worthy swimming pool and backyard oasis the next day, week or even month. Get four months into your head to be on the safe side.
You will preferably want to decide the year before installation to get on the schedule. Because we’re practically family, we were able to be squeezed in but that’s not always the case. Most likely, the pool company you choose is already scheduling into next year (western PA outdoor construction season is shorter than warmer climates).

Budget:

It’s probably different when it comes to cost too. There may not be one price that’s all inclusive. There may be a few areas you’ll want to consider in your total budget. Here is a collection of where a budget was required in our experience:

  • Permit
  • Pool itself (included pool, excavating/transport/crane, basic equipment)
  • Add ons/accessories – heater, salt system, lights, solar or auto cover, winter cover
  • Fencing or auto-cover
  • Electrical
  • Gas line for heater if needed (our gas meter was at the front of the house, so they had to dig a trench/run the line from front yard to back yard)
  • Tree branch trimming if required
  • Water (our pool size took 1 tanker truck + additional from our outside hose)
  • Concrete company (additional fee for a pump truck)
  • Landscaping
  • Pool accessories (spot vacuum or robot, etc.)
  • Lighting for backyard
  • Shed (you may want to house in your pool equipment and create storage for pool accessories and pool floats and toys

Permit:

Check with your local area. Our township requires a pool permit in advance. This was our responsibility. The process was pretty easy – fill out a form, draw up a sketch, have the pool company fill out a portion of it and submit for review. Then throughout the installation process, keeping the permit officer in the loop to inspect things along the way (electrical). Our township also requires a fence or a locking auto-cover for safety. We chose an auto-cover to avoid blocking backyard views.

Pool options:

We had two choices, a steel walled pool with a liner or a fiberglass shell. We preferred the low maintenance and durability of fiberglass. It costs a little more but we weighed the slight increase in price against the maintenance of replacing liners, etc. Fortunately, Country Pools and Spas had several in stock and once we saw the beautiful sparkly pearl white finish on one in just the right size, I fell in love. A sun deck, stairs and swim up seats. A sparkly shimmery glitter finish (it’s gorgeous in the sunshine!).

We went with a 12×25 for our backyard spot. We considered that most of the time, it would only be the two of us, plus our grandsons. And if entertaining with a larger group, that mostly likely all guests wouldn’t be in at the same time. After the fact, there’s been plenty of room for us, guests and family.

fiberglass pool shell

Size and placement:

12 x 25 also fit our space best. Remember to consider pool decking and patio will fill the yard too. Once we decided the best location in our backyard, we had a few things to take care of in advance to prepare.

Preparation:

For us that included tree trimming. We have a huge oak tree with branches extending over top of the backyard where the pool was going in and had to have them cut back. This required renting a lift as well as paying someone with some experience recommended by the pool company. I recommend calling a tree trimming service directly. We didn’t know. So I believe we paid more than what directly contacting a service would have been.

tree trimming

Overhead wires from our house to our barn were in a path hanging above the pool area. This required hiring an electrician to run wiring underground. Speaking of electricity, he was also the one we paid to run wiring and plumbing to the pool and pool equipment including the pool pump, lighting, sump pump, switch for our auto-cover.

moving electrical wires

Add ons:

In addition to the fiberglass shell and pool auto-cover, we opted for a gas heater and salt system. We’re located in PA, so a heater is a luxury I didn’t want to go without. And once we had our “pool school”, the salt system has proven to be an awesome low maintenance chemical free option. We recommend it! We also added two lights to the pool. (Pssst. It’s October and yes, we’ve tested that heater! Worth every single penny!)

In-ground Swimming Pool installation:

After those things were decided and underway, the pool company scheduled and performed the excavation. Amazing how fast they can dig a giant hole!

excavating inground pool

Once the excavation was done, they had a load of gravel delivered, a crane showed up, the fiberglass shell arrived on a flatbed (they scheduled these things and acquired the transportation permit).

They added the gravel and made sure the spot was level. They lifted and put the pool in place (on the first try…mentioned that’s rare). They then connected the plumbing and lighting and wiring for the pool pump/filter and heater. Next they backfilled with gravel and placed ground wiring too.

Then the water arrived! Our pool took one truckload + some additional from the hose/our outdoor water spigot. I keep meaning to look at our paperwork for how many gallons.

inground pool installation

The actual placement went pretty fast! One day!

Concrete:

The next step was concrete. We liked the look of stained/stamped concrete so we hired a separate company for the concrete pool coping (the edge where concrete sets over top of the edge of the pool), pool deck, walkways and integrating stairs to our existing concrete patio.

Made in America Concrete

stained stamped concrete stairspouring concrete pool deckinstalling concrete pool copingThe concrete workers had to get into the water. Of course it was a cold summer day and the heater wasn’t connected yet. Brrr!

In addition to lining up each contractor for a seamless install, concrete was the most time consuming. They excavate, frame, add gravel and rebar, then pour and stamp. It’s weather dependent so rainy days set things back. Then they return another day after concrete is set and dry to stain. Add at least one day or more if it’s the weekend or rain is in the forecast. Then another day to seal. Our project wasn’t small and they did it in 3 parts (stairs, then half of the concrete patio/1 walkway, then the pool deck/pool coping, then the rest of a walkway, pad for a shed and surrounding the pool equipment).

Stain by DecoCrete. Color: weathered oak. It’s recommended that stained concrete is sealed every year. Can also be re-stained as needed. It dried to a nice natural looking taupe-color.

Learning experience: If overspray from stain gets into your pool water (can happen even if pool is covered with plastic), metallic ingredients in the stain may react to chlorine (even salt water chlorine) and turn your pool water green. This will require a trip to your pool store with a sample of pool water for instructions and a bottle of metal remover. Ask us how we know. ::freaked out!:: But don’t panic, it’s then back to normal after 24 hours.

stained stamped concrete patio

Security: Fence or Auto Cover

We chose the auto pool cover. When the pool was installed, they also took final measurements for the auto-pool cover (made to order). That took about 10 weeks to arrive. The pool company installed it for us (included in the price) once it arrived in September.

auto star pool cover

Landscaping:

Once all of that was done, our yard was quite a mess. I didn’t really consider that they don’t drop a pool in and leave the yard the way they found it. Haha! So, figure in landscaping into your budget. The machinery tears up the lawn so it’ll require grading, top soil and grass or plants and mulch. Thanks to Orloski Landscaping! We have grass and mulch and the start of a beautiful landscape!

Budget friendly tips: We were able to re-plant several costa and bushes and that were removed prior to the pool installation as well as some stones that came with our property. We also made a few trips to Lowe’s after the landscaping was completed for clearance perennial flowers, grasses and plants and planted those ourselves. Mr. DIY did the hard labor intensive part of digging holes. I mostly supervised and leant a hand in deciding placement and pushing mulch back into place. And since its fall, I did put in some spring bulbs.

fiberglass pool

Misc:

Of note, I also found a cantilever umbrella anchor and had them place that (requires a hole and gravel and concrete to set in place so level with the patio). So smart! I love that it’s super anchored and it doesn’t require the big “x” base and sandbags (tripping hazard and it very aesthetically pleasing).

Cantilever umbrellaUmbrella anchor

With an auto-pool cover, draining off rain water is a task! A pool cover pump was provided but hooking up the hose is inconvenient and takes a while. The pool company recommended this little tool. This small spout is powerful, easy to connect (game changer) and shoots water 25 ft. The hose connection is a slower process. This spout is fast!

automatic pool cover pump

CoverBlast pool cover pump

I was also suckered into a Facebook ad for a Skim-Around. All good reviews, including ours! Love the whirlpool it creates and it does seem to keep the surface cleaner quicker!

Skim-Around

Also worth mentioning, once the auto-cover was installed, the pool didn’t require a lot of vacuuming … just a little. And connecting the hose and sweeper to the pump/skimmer is time consuming. I love this small rechargeable handheld vacuum for a quick vacuuming job!

We were able to swim before the concrete job. And we did! But once the concrete was poured, we had to stay out to avoid salt water on the concrete until sealed. But before you know it, what felt like a project was dragging out all summer long, will be complete. Just in time to close it up for the season! Actually – we are able to fit in some swims when the sun is shining and the heater makes that possible. Also of note: the first pool closing is included in the cost.

Closing thoughts:

Our driveway is simply limestone. It was also torn up during the process and we’ll need to spread more limestone (another cost to consider when looking at your own property and the route to pool and concrete placement/surrounding area).

Was the entire investment worth it? YES! We’ve lived in this house for 15 years and consider it our forever home so it’s worth it to us and we’ll enjoy many summers making memories! It hasn’t been long since it was finished up and now we’ll be closing it soon for the season but next year, we will enjoy it every day all summer long right from the get go!

So … yes! It was, is and will be. We love that our girls and grandsons, family and friends can visit for swim days! We love that we spend time together in the evenings relaxing in the pool. It’s been a great way to unwind and bond. And our 7 year old grandson gets a lot of exercise when he visits weekly. And the little one is acclimating to pool life (that sun deck is perfect for little ones) too.

Despite not having a full pool season, the older one has already improved his swimming skills. No fear, no hesitation. He’s worked his way up to braving the deep end and swimming under water. He wakes up Saturday mornings, changes from pajamas to swimming trunks, grabs his towel, fins, mask and bluetooth speaker (beach music is a must) and waits for me to accompany him to the backyard. That big smile on his face? Priceless!

DIY Decorative Juju Hat Inspired Wall Decor Tutorial

African/Cameroon Juju hats have been around as home decor for a few years. They’re so beautiful, artisanal/handmade (symbolize prosperity, worn by ceremonial dancers). DIY decorative Juju hat inspired tutorial:

DIYShowOff Juju hat wall decor tutorial

juju hat wall decor diy

When a friend of mine had to part ways with her African Juju hat wall decor (you don’t want to know), she was in the market for a replacement. It’s been a while since I’ve been crafty and what better time than the new year for a fresh start?! Perfect timing. A perfect opportunity to focus on the positive and to send some good juju to a friend.

What’s your first DIY project of the new year? Looking for and easy, fun and “GOOD” DIY to jumpstart 2022? This is the perfect little project for you to try! I felt empowered and inspired so I opened up my Amazon app and ordered these supplies:

diy materials for juju hat wall decor

Materials I used (referral links):

cardboard circle (could easily make one from recycled cardboard too, especially if you’ve been procrastinating the holiday clean up!)

• feather trim ( purchased 2 of this feather trim and 1 of this feather fringe trim)

• aluminum pop top (removed from can) to hang (could also use string or hang with push pins)

Tools:

hot glue gun/sticks, scissors

What I did:

I found the center of my cardboard circle. From there, I drew a straight line to the outer edge.

tape measure

Using scissors, I cut along the line.

Next, using hot glue along one side of the cut, I glued the other side slightly on top to create a little bit of a ‘bowl’-shape. It’s very slight…just enough to give it a 3D look.

Gorilla Glue gun cardboard circle

Then, protect your fingers ‘cuz that hot glue is HOT! Be careful! (I used a capped pen to hold down the ribbon as needed.) Determine placement and start attaching the bottom of the feather trip to the cardboard circle. I worked my way around the outer edge.

Repeat in circles for complete coverage. Based on your supplies, determine how close together to cover the cardboard. I alternated the 2 different feather trims.

For the center, add a coordinating or same color silk flower. Or, like me, take a bit of leftover trim and roll to create a “center” piece. Attach with hot glue.

Easy peasy! Much lighter and not as detailed or heavy as the real thing but beautiful none-the-less and special because you made it yourself!

Texture! Softness. Beauty!

I’m hooked and plan to create several more! More feather trim as been ordered! I need a fluffier one! A feather boa would work as well (although a little messier)! Maybe some rattan coasters for the center or a coordinating silk peony would be beautiful too. I’ll come back and post more pictures. Interested in adding yours to the feature? How about you? Ready to get crafty, creative and inspired in 2022?

Baby Shower Gift Basket Tips and Inspiration

There’s nothing more precious than a new baby and putting together a collection of sweet baby gifts can be so meaningful for parents-to-be! I love shopping and gathering up gifts to create a beautiful arrangement and I’m all about a pretty presentation. I thought I’d share a few I’ve made this past year to help inspire you if you’re stuck or looking for some examples to go by. Some affiliate links included.

Baby Shower Gift Basket Tips

Tips for personalizing a gift for a new little person makes if feel so special, right? Here are a few tips to help:

  • Registry – most parents-to-be will share their baby shower registry. Try to choose a few items from their hand selected wish list when possible.
  • Gender – it’s rare that we don’t know this ahead of time and completely unnecessary but if you do know, it does narrow down options.
  • Name – even more rare, but if it is known, I love to add something monogrammed – specifically, I love adding a wall art letter or creating a personalized iron on decal.
  • Theme – a lot of the time, the baby shower invitation will give a hint to the nursery theme or design style … elephants, owls, woodland, boho, Noah’s ark, etc.
  • Parents’ hobbies, collections, lifestyle. Do they love the outdoors (fishing? hunting?), love their dog(s)?, have a favorite sport’s team?
  • Your signature piece – for example, I’m all about wellness so I try to include chemical free, natural, organic options when I can.
  • Diapers & board book – baby showers now will often host a special raffle for bringing one of these items. I always use a pack of Honest newborn diapers in the bottom of the basket to lift the gifts. Either way, diapers are SUPER helpful and adding a favorite children’s story or baby board book to create a library of bedtime stories is one of my favorite things to add.
  • Gift wrap a few of the items with coordinating wrapping paper. I often use what I have on hand. It doesn’t have to be specific baby shower themed.

Easy DIY Summer Cooling Spray Recipe & Tutorial

It is HOT out there! Our local forecast promises a HOT and humid week. No worries! I’m going to share my favorite way to keep cool and chill out with an easy DIY cooling spray.

DIY cooling mist

Reasons you need to make cooling spray this NOW for you and your family members.

• It’s hot outside! As a result, you might be feeling over-heated.
• If you’re hot, you’re sweating. Yuck. Doesn’t hurt to spritz on some good smelling lavender and peppermint! lol
• If you’re overheated, chances are – you’re cranky. A ‘lil lavender for calming is going to help!

DIY Keep Cool / Chill Out Spray

Supplies I use:

I included some affiliate links.

• 2 oz. amber glass spray bottle (or adjust recipe according to the size spray bottle you have on hand)

• Witch hazel

• Distilled water
Peppermint essential oil*
Lavender essential oil*

* I only use and recommend Young Living essential oils! Quality matters!

What I do:

I fill the bottle half way with witch hazel, then the rest of the way with distilled water (to where the bottle starts to curve, NOT to the bottle neck or completely full, leave room for essential oils. I then add 4 drops each of Lavender and Peppermint. No worries if you get an extra drop or two, no worries if you’re running low and only have 3 drops. The nice thing about DIY is you control the strength and can alter the recipe as needed.

Lavender Essential Oil

The Swiss army knife of essential oils! SO many amazing benefits! Off the top of my head – supporting healthy skin, so a good choice for a body spray. AND as most of us know…relaxing and calming. So hot = cranky pants, add lavender = CHILL (CALM).

Young Living lavender

Peppermint Essential Oil

Another good one with so many benefits. It supports a healthy digestive system, soothing after exercise (dilute and apply topically), etc. But one other benefit is … it’s COOLING! For all things that cause me to overheat, I keep this bottle handy. Peppermint = CHILL (COOLING).

peppermint essential oil

Tip:

It is not necessary at all, but I store it in the refrigerator to give it an extra cooling boost!

Easy to grab and go, throw it in your purse or backpack. Having a cookout or going on a picnic in the park? Toss it in the cooler.

How I use it:

Shake and spritz myself, then spray the back of my neck.

Head’s Up:

Avoid your eyes! Peppermint stings! IF you do get it in your eyes, grab some coconut or a carrier oil, some fatty liquid and flush. Water will not help.

When I use it:

When temps are up, summer heat! Outdoor events, going to the park, going on a walk, run or hike, doing yard work, working outdoors, when air conditioning isn’t available or isn’t working, when the power is out and the a/c and fans aren’t an option, picnics/BBQs, at the pool.

IGTV

It WORKS! When I made this video, I spritzed myself then had to adjust the a/c. I was cold! Brrr!

Not a member of Young Living yet?

You guys! I know you’ve heard of essential oils by now. Maybe it feels overwhelming? Sounds expensive? Whatever your reason, I’d love to answer your questions and address your concerns.

#1 Quality:

It does matter and Young Living has a 25+ year history and is the pioneer of bringing back and raising awareness for using essential oils. Check out the Seed to Seal guarantee and pillars.

#2 Where you get them matters.

Maybe you’ve had a bad experience with MLMs, therefore maybe you feel that going to the store is a better option because you steer clear of network marketing “scams”. Well, with a 25+ year history and the fact that scams are illegal, Young Living doesn’t fit that description at all. And you wouldn’t avoid your friend who waitresses at your favorite restaurant, right? Of course not. You’d want to be seated in her section, tip her extra and show your support. Same thing! PLUS! When you connect with a friend who’s passionate about Young Living, you’re going to have access to an amazing community of thousands who love and use the products and share their real life experiences as well as educational resources to empower you to actually know how and why you would use the products. You have a friend to hold your hand as much or as little as you want to make the whole ‘healthy lifestyle’ less overwhelming!

#3 Membership

Purchasing a Young Living Premium Starter Kit is NOT agreeing to selling anything. It’s there floating in the background as an option of your membership but completely your call. No pressure, no obligations. It’s NOT agreeing to purchasing regularly or ever again (of course they have an optional rewards program for those of us who do that can be canceled at ANY time without penalties). There is NO yearly fees. You guys, we have a SAMs Club membership. $45/year. Over a year year time frame, we’ve paid $450 for the privilege to shop there and not really anything to show for it. With Young Living, you buy a premium starter kit, you have lifetime access to 24% off retail prices. That’s it. Not to mention the starter kits are the best bang for your buck. When I need to restock, that’s usually the route I go (hello, $400+ worth of product for $165 = smart)!

#4 Young Living Lifestyle

Young Living is about so much more than essential oils (although they have a HUGE collection and oils you can’t purchase anywhere else). Example: we started choosing products with non toxic ingredients. Building and supporting a healthy immune system is SUPER important! So I simply switched from buying the following at the store to purchasing them with my Young Living membership (ask me how I get 25% back in rewards):

Young Living products

• Cough drops and chest rub
• Insect Repellent
• Dental care (toothpaste, floss, mouthwash)
• Natural deodorant
• Nose rings! yep! – personal essential oil infused diffuser rings
• Shampoo and conditioner
• Clean makeup! Yep! EVERY thing you need!
• The best skincare I’ve ever tried in my life
• Supplements (Vitamin D, C, B and more!)
• Baby products (wipes, lotion, wash, shampoo, diaper rash cream, etc.)
• Pain cream
• Sunscreen and After Sun Spray
• C B D oil + C B D muscle rub
• Household cleaner (plant based that we use on EVERY surface of our home)
• Foaming hand soaps + bar soaps
• Bath bombs, body wash, lotions
• Hand sanitizer (that doesn’t burn and is so moisturizing)
• Hormone support – I have NO issues at age 50 or for the last couple of years and I know it’s because of what I use.
• Laundry and dishwashing soaps
• Kids’ collection (pre-diluted essential oils)
• Pet line!
• Energy and anti-oxidants with Ningxia Red (love Ningxia Zyng for an afternoon pick me up too)

I could go on and on! I love that there is so much to choose from to create a beautiful safe environment for my family!

Get Started:

So, which kit are you going to go with? My recommendation: The Premium Oil Kit + Aria diffuser (it’s a gorgeous statement piece, ART!) with soothing sounds, glass dome, speaker (plug in your phone!), light options, and a remote!  The Desert Mist diffuser being a close second with great settings too (lights, candle flicker mode, 3-5-10 hour settings, automatic shutoff).

Staying at Home with Young Living

Hello, DIYShowOff friends!

stay at home roeshel

How are you holding up? Hanging in there? Adjusting to the new routine of staying in if you can, homeschooling, getting things done around the house, binge-watching Netflix series, getting outdoors? Are you a part of an essential business and working long hours? If so – thank you so much for putting yourself at risk to serve others. You are so appreciated!

thank-you

As a blogger, small business owner, AirBnB host; a little has changed in my routine. No travel means no business for the AirBnB but I’m grateful to continue to work from home with my blogging. My wellness workshop is closed but the Young Living side of my business continues online.

roeshel suite thyme

At first I felt a little helpless, wishing there was more I could do. Then I realized that I can absolutely continue to serve and bless others through Young Living. I know. I know. Network marketing. Believe me, it wasn’t for me either. I have zero sales skills. I didn’t have a background in direct sales so my opinion was based on hearsay so I wanted no part of it. I simply purchased the products because a friend shared and the essential oil I tried worked. Ever hear someone say that Young Living has been life changing for them? That’s my story too.

diyshowoff family

Why? I was introduced six years ago at a time when again, I was feeling helpless. Two very close family members were diagnosed with breast cancer (with no previous family history and negative gene testing). So, it’s evident that the environment and lifestyle choices are a contributing factor. And it made me take a look at my lifestyle. I’ve been blessed with good health my entire life, but I knew my unhealthy choices would likely catch up with me one day. At that time, it made me realize that I didn’t want to put off that healthier lifestyle to “some day” when I’d be in desperate need of making changes and I didn’t want to look back and have regrets.

So, Young Living became that baby step in light of the wake up call. I began switching out the harsh chemical-laden products in our home. Around the same time, my husband who does the cooking was starting to incorporate healthier eating habits and we started looking at supplements for whole body support. And shortly after, I had a grandchild on the way and knew that it was time to stop smoking once and for all. One thing led to another. I’m still a work in progress but I am confident that just those changes have made a difference for us. For the past six years, I’ve haven’t experienced feeling unwell at all. ::knock on wood::

wellness roll on recipe

I’m sure by now you’ve heard of Young Living. What is this company? Young Living has been around for more than 25 years. They are the pioneer and world leader in essential oils. They have a seed to seal guarantee, meaning they control the entire process of bringing us everyday products. They aren’t purchasing something and slapping on a label. They have strict guidelines when it comes to ingredients, farming practices and more.

diyshowoff essential oils uplifting blend

How it works. To me, it’s similar to a SAMs Club/Costo membership. We have a SAMs Club membership and pay $45/year for access to shop their store. Over a period of 10 years, we’ve payed $450 to shop there. I have an ID card to show for it. With Young Living, I purchased one of the starter kits. Now I have a lifetime membership to wholesale pricing (24% off everything) with no yearly fees. No obligation to sell. And a premium starter kit for $165 is a diffuser, 12 essential oils and some samples – so a LOT to show for what I spent.

diyshowoff young living premium starter kit

I have to share the business opportunity since at a time when so many are stuck at home without a paycheck and maybe considering an online/work from home business at this time. Purchasing one of the starter kits is all it takes. Did you know there’s even a basic kit option? How many businesses do you know you can start off with just a $35 investment?

So what’s the catch? Monthly sales quotas to remain a rep? No. Big fees to stay active? No. Young Living wants you to be a product of the product. So all that is required in a month that you do have a bonus/commission coming to you is that you purchase 50 pv (approx. $50 order) monthly of products you choose and use personally to earn fast start and sign up bonuses of the people you enroll or a 100 pv (approx. $100) to earn commissions. Young Living has one of the best compensation and ranking plans. They’ve implemented new Silverbound incentives. AND you have an entire team for encouragement, inspiration, motivation, education and training and support. An amazing group – maybe even some bloggers you’ll recognize!

We use our diffuser daily. I was a designer candle junkie but wasn’t really aware or didn’t care about the toxic ingredients and synthetic fragrances I was breathing in. Until I knew better that even a small step in a healthy direction makes a big difference over time. Not only does my home smell pretty, I can diffuse essential oils with a purpose. Lavender or Peace & Calming for relaxation and sleep. Thieves for cleaning the air and supporting a healthy immune system. A combo of lavender, lemon and peppermint for season support. So many options!

peppermint essential oil

Some of Young Living essential oils are labeled for dietary use. So instead of reaching for something I bought at the store with side effects or chemicals, I can grab DiGize for supporting a healthy digestive system – all things digestive! Or have you heard of the health benefits of Frankincense? I add it to my Ningxia Red (a juice for supporting a healthy immune system and energy) daily.

Do I have to purchase regularly? Will things just show up at my door and be deducted from my bank account? No. They DO have an Essential Rewards program that is completely optional. And since we do purchase regularly, we’ve opted in. I earn 25% back on my monthly orders and that adds up fast! There are monthly promotions that have stocked our supply or introduced us to something knew. We simply ditched what we were buying at WalMart and switched to buying the better healthier brand from Young Living. Here’s a list of a few things:

  • toothpaste
  • mouthwash
  • deodorant
  • household cleaner concentrate
  • hand purifier
  • makeup
  • lotion
  • shampoo
  • condition
  • supplements!

I also love the community that comes along with it. Rather than wondering what does this oil do?, I’m a part of an amazing supportive group of friends to hold my hand. I had no idea where to start. It all seemed so overwhelming – a good reason for my procrastination. But having access to the educational resources and community for support has been a lifesaver! That’s one of my favorite parts! So who you join under does matter. And I would be honored if you chose me. I’ve been a part of Young Living for six years and want freedom and purpose and abundance and wellness for everyone! It really has made a positive impact on me, my family and so many. I want that for you to.

What guests are saying:

“Beautiful Butler City Apartment is indeed a beautiful apartment. Everything was very nice, and the apartment was a beautiful, cozy place. The couch and beds were very comfortable, and the kitchen was very modern, with high quality, modern cooking utensils. Roeshel obviously takes a lot of pride in this apartment, and it shows. I was very pleased with my experience there.”

~Robert

“Beautiful apartment next to a cute down town! Our first Airbnb fell threw last minute and Roeshel was on top of getting back to us and having us stay with such short notice! So many extra touches to ensure a great stay! Lists of local places to eat and a calendar of things to do! If I could give more than 5 stars I would! Definitely recommend.”

~Brittany

“Roeshel’s place was simply spectacular!! Luxury surrounded us in every detail of her space. The kitchen was a dream…I enjoyed cooking up local vegetables. The beds were super comfortable with fabulous linens. And the decor was right out of a magazine! Roeshel’s special touches made this my favorite all-time AirBnB experience. We felt so at home and didn’t want to leave. If you’re lucky enough to get to stay here, I’m certain you’ll feel the same way.”

~Cathy

Holiday stays:

“My husband and I stayed at Roeshel’s for a trip home over the holidays and absolutely loved it! Roeshel met us for a quick tour when we arrived. The whole place is filled with cute little touches and smells amazing (all essential oils). She even had it decorated for Christmas and it looked incredible! The bed was super comfy and there are throw blankets to keep warm under and a full kitchen should you need it. We would definitely stay again!”

~Shannon

“This place had everything you need and more. I mentioned to the host that I was visiting my 2 1/2 yr old granddaughter for the holidays and I found a basket of perfect toys that were placed to share with her in the space. The house is sparkling clean and the atmosphere so inviting. Everything you need to have a nice getaway! I highly recommend staying here!”

~Christine

Wedding weekend:

Butler PA wedding lodging

“My husband and I booked Roeshel’s place for our wedding weekend. We used the space to get ready in and as a retreat after our long exciting wedding day. Her space is decorated beautifully with many amenities for her guests to use. One feature my make-up artist loved was the long table/desk with built in charging station – convenient!

Not only did she go above and beyond with her communication and little touches but she also surprised us, not once but twice! When we arrived the morning of our wedding she had laid out a little welcome platter of fruits and drinks with a congratulations sign hung on the fire place mantle. She also drew up a cute little note on the calendar on the refrigerator!

When we arrived back to the space late that night after having the most perfect wedding day, we were greeted with another surprise. The entry way and stairs leading up to the AirBnB had been decorated with rose petals and electric candles. This led to a decorated romantic set up outside the apartment door along with chocolates, drinks and chilled glasses. We cried. It was the most perfect ending to the beautiful day we had just shared. It meant the world to us.

Her thoughtful touches, ultra clean + super hip space and her timely communication make this easily the best place to stay in the Butler area. If you are in town or just want a little stay-cation I can’t encourage you enough to book Roeshel’s space!”
