DIY Halloween Vignette

Decorating for Halloween? I’m not much of a Halloween decorator but I do have friends with October birthdays and these make a great gifts!

EASY Halloween Wall Art

DIY Halloween decor @diyshowoffYou’ll need these items from the craft store:

  • stretched burlap
  • felt placemat
  • felt decor
  • glue dots (or recommended: hot glue)

Using lots and lots of glue dots or hot glue, layer and secure the felt placemat onto the stretched burlap canvas (glue dots = temporary and using stretched burlap for another project in the future, hot glue = more permanent). Then secure the felt decoration on top of the felt placemat. It doesn’t get much easier than that!

 Celebrations Challenge #MichaelsMakers

It’s not often I’m way ahead of the game but when I am, it’s by more than three months. haha! As a part of the Michael’s Makers team, my final assignment came with a “Celebrate America” theme from the Celebrations campaign. Due in April. Yes, quite a bit early and especially since photos were actually due in March while there was still snow on the patio but it wouldn’t be a “challenge” otherwise, right? I had a blast decorating our dresser turned kitchen island in red, white & blue for a festive party. And hey, I’m happy to celebrate America any time of the year.

Decoupaged USA letters

Supplies: Shop Home Decor and Floral at Michaels

  • wooden letters U, S, A
  • decoupage
  • red, white, blue designed scrapbook paper

What I did: Trace letters onto scrap book paper. Cut out scrap book paper shapes. Apply decoupage to wooden letter (works like a glue). Carefully line up scrapbook paper. Apply another layer of decoupage over top of the scrapbook paper to seal. Let dry and display.

Add a few red, white and blue doilies to a burlap table runner for an inspired ‘firework’s look.

Red, white and blue straws and red and white polka dot cupcake liners add to the patriotic color theme. There are little American flags near the cash register. Add a red/blue topper to the cupcakes (I found red and blue keys).

Supplies:

  • red, burlap, blue wide mesh ribbon
  • star wire garland
  • twine or yarn

Tutorial:

  1. Cut a piece of twine the length you’d like your banner to be. Tie loops on the ends for hanging.
  2. Cut pieces of mesh to tie onto the twine.
  3. Secure mesh with snips of star wire garland.
  4. Thread onto twine.
  5. Repeat until your banner is full. Fluff and display.

Fall Linky Party

Rustic Glam Woodland Centerpiece and a Mint Mocha Smoothie

My favorite time of the year is summer and I love spending my days outdoors when I don’t have to bundle up, the sun shining warm on my face, taking a few moments from the chaos on the patio swing to close my eyes while I ponder the day’s plans.

My woodland centerpiece is inspired by summer, talking walks in the woods. A good hike, re-connecting. Mood boosting!

Materials: moss runner, large wood slice, fresh flowers, feathers, white candles, twine, wooden spoons and gold spray painted toy animals.

a blend of natural elements with a little glam

Create a woodland themed vignette. Nature inspired. Peaceful and serene.

It’s a sweet centerpiece for the bistro table under our grape arbor gazebo, all set for some quiet time, counting blessings, healthy meditation and brainstorming up my next big DIY project. Remember to take a few quiet minutes for the sake of your health, to breathe, to think (or not think) and to just rest before tackling the rest of the day.

A shaded haven for catching up with my daughter. We sat there the other day, sipping mocha mint smoothies, talking and dreaming big.

Do you take the time to sit and soak up the good things? What inspires you to live a healthier lifestyle?

DIY Burlap and Spool Key Keeper Tutorial

Michael's Raw Bar

As a part of the Michael’s Makers team, I have the opportunity to participate in monthly craft challenges. This month’s project is a DIY burlap and spool key keeper tutorial.

DIY Show Off key holder

I don’t know about you but I LOVE craft supplies like cork, burlap, unfinished, twine, jute…all things “natural and earthy”. I feel like I could just start a collection of natural materials with no crafting plans…they’re all just so pretty! But since this isn’t blog isn’t titled  “Hoard Show Off”, let’s get to the ‘how to’!

DIY Burlap and Spool Key (or jewelry) Keeper Tutorial

(Because we all have a habit of misplacing our keys on occasion, right? Some more than others. Ahem, “Mr. DIY”)

DIY key holder supplies at diyshowoff.com

Materials:

  • stretched burlap canvas
  • natural wood cutout (I chose a key but I saw the cutest bird cage cut out at Michael’s too)
  • cork letter
  • wooden spools
  • twine and scissors
  • optional: acrylic craft paint (black) and foam paint brush
  • hot glue and hot glue gun
  • picture hanging hardware or 3M strips

What I did:

1. Paint the accessories and let dry. I painted the wooden key decal and spools black.

DIY key holder tutorial at diyshowoff.com

2. Wind twine around spool. Cut twine and secure with hot glue.

DIY key holder tutorial at diyshowoff.com

3. Attach accessories (wooden key decal, cork monogram and spools) to stretched burlap frame using hot glue.

DIY key holder tutorial at diyshowoff.com

4. Hang and display near door. I nestled mine inside of a regular picture frame.

DIY key holder tutorial at diyshowoff.com

Keep keys within easy reach or hang in a in closet, the bedroom or bathroom for hanging necklaces, beads, bracelets, hair ties, etc.

It doesn’t get much easier than that, does it? Perfect for your own home (and sanity) or a great handmade housewarming gift idea.
