Decorating Ideas Made Easy ~ Beautiful Master Bedroom Makeover

Hi DIY friends! I’d like to introduce you to Jennifer from

Decorating Ideas Made Easy

Jennifer’s website is all about teaching others about interior decorating on a budget and she also runs a blog where she highlights different projects. It’s so fun ‘e-meeting’ others who share our love of decorating. Jennifer is also an interior decorator, and runs her own business. I’ve enjoyed browsing the links on her side bar.

Today she is sharing her beautiful master bedroom makeover which started with beige walls and two pieces of faux finished furniture. Jennifer was ready for some soft color and a calm relaxing retreat. She started with choosing a “Gray Shell” by Porter Paints for the walls because of it’s blue undertone.

Then she painted her furniture white to create a clean and fresh look and purchased bamboo blinds and sheer curtains to soften the room.

Her search for quality and affordable bedding resulted in finding pretty blue damask pattern set at 65% off. Lucky girl! It’s so pretty!

Accessorizing the room with a ruffled pillow, bench and lamps were layered into the room. I love her choice of decorative accents.

As her budget began to run low, her DIY creativity kicked in and she created a beautiful unique piece for $7 for above the bed. So sweet!

Didn’t she do an amazing job on a tight budget? I think it’s so peaceful and relaxing. I want to snuggle up in that bed after a long week! I’d have a hard time leaving!  See more details on this master bedroom makeover at Decorating Ideas Made Easy.

I was only able to fit in a small craft project this week which I’ll be sharing with you soon but my sister, Patti, did find a house to rent! Woo hoo! She’ll be here for good in about one week! And since I know the owner of the rental house who’s familiar with my DIY and decorating passion, I have the freedom to help Patti make the rental “home”! I’m so excited and will be patching and painting walls a lot this week while she’s packing boxes and hopefully some room makeovers to share this summer.

This past week’s party links were amazing, friends! You are so clever, so creative and I don’t know where you find the time {have you noticed I didn’t even have time to blog the past two days? That’s NEVER happened!} but I’m so inspired by your awesome talent! Here are some highlights from last week:

I LOVE stripes and this gorgeous hall reveal from The Poor Sophisticate is a must see.

Bedroom Makeover Design Board

The master bedroom is on the DIY to-do list this year. I’m starting to put together some ideas and this is the first draft. However, if you know me, you know this will change. Still, just for fun, here is what I’ve come up with. A lot of items are things we already own that I’m trying to work into the design.

farmhouse bedroom design board

The details:

  1. DIY Styrofoam/Convex Mirrors – using DecoArt MagiKote, Americana craft paints and Styrofoam wreath forms and PARTSMART SMR729193 8-1/2″ Offset Mount Convex Mirror
  2. Rubbed Bronze Ceiling Fan (a Mr. DIY must) – Overstock
  3. Vintage Inspired Industrial Large Number Signs (our anniversary date) – Antique Farmhouse
  4. Distressed European Wall Clock – Wisteria
  5. Sage Chinese Pots & Vases – Wisteria
  6. Burlap Crewel Damask Draperies – Ballard Designs
  7. Beach Postcard Lumbar Pillow Cover – Pottery Barn
  8. Beach Postcard Lumbar Pillow Cover – Pottery Barn
  9. Benjamin Moore –  Morning Dew
  10. Black Bowfront Chest – Wisteria
  11. Handwoven Rustic Rug – Wisteria
  12. Vintage Ticking Stripe Duvet Cover – Pottery Barn
  13. Old vintage steamer trunk

Other things in the room:

  • Hardwood floors
  • Two mismatched windows – a challenge!
  • King sized sleigh bed
  • Old dressers
  • Built-in dresser with hutch/shelving

And of course the design board is only a wishlist/dream since some of the items are not in my budget so imagine a DIY spin on some of those numbered items. We’ll use dressers we already have. Curtain panels will be stenciled drop cloths, a DIY knock off on the accent pillows. Vases/planters will be thrift store finds + spray paint. #13 – I already have those trunks but hope to do something fun with it. And #1, the Styrofoam Convex mirrors are a DIY project. I’m sharing the tutorial today at the DIY Club.

Do you take the time to ‘dream’ up a mood board for your room makeovers? It’s a great way to see how things coordinate and come together. Sometimes catalogs/a little internet window shopping is a great source of DIY inspiration.

Mini Bedroom Makeover ~ Because I Like to Decorate

Meet:  Mary from

because i like to decorate...

Like me, Mary has a neglected master bedroom.  She decided that while her husband was away, she’d sneak in a surprise mini makeover. It might be a mini-makeover but the result is HUGE.

This is what her master bedroom looked like before.

Mary says that when they moved in, they placed the furniture and walked away. Does this look at all familiar? Inspired by DIY headboards all over the internet, Mary set out to DIY her own. She used Home Depot stocks 6′ long pre-cut boards for about $5.50 a piece. It took six boards that she stained then screwed them to the wall using a course drywall screw.
They also needed some lighting changes, so she picked up these nightstand lights as well as the ceiling fan and called a very generous friend to come install them last-minute.
She brought in Hayden – the antique cedar chest to frame the foot of the bed, and also picked up a few nightstand accessories…
…including this super-cool motorcycle statue that she couldn’t resist for my husband’s side of the bed. Super cute!
To keep things practical, she used books that her husband actually reads topped with a couple vintage, old-looking books. (great tip, Mary!)

And finally, she purchased this rug to frame out the space and add a little texture and dimension.

Isn’t it beautiful? Just some quick DIY and accessories and a completely new look!  Awesome, Mary!  See more from Mary at Because I Like to Decorate.
