Happy New Year!

Happy New Year, DIY Show Off friends! happy new year

Thank YOU for an awesome year of friendship, encouragement, support and sharing DIY, decorating, home improvement and crafts. If it wasn’t for you or for sharing our love of DIY and decorating, the hard work involved with blogging wouldn’t have the special meaning that it does. And as revisited my 2012 DIY projects, I couldn’t help but think that the BEST part of 2012 wasn’t my DIY at all. Nope. It was the DIY community, my DIY friends, DIYShowOff readers, my blogging buddies. YOU are the best part of DIY Show Off, YOU are a blessing, the reward and your comments encourage more creativity and motivation to move from one completed project to the next. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I’m looking forward to another year of getting to know, making new friends and of course, more do-it-yourself decorating and home improvement.

2013 GOALS

new years resolutions 2013

Do you make new year’s resolutions? I call them “goals”. Here are my thoughts for me starting 2013 off on the right foot:

  • time management: Develop a schedule for blogging, projects and life. My current schedule is random and although I’ve adjusted to working from home, I need to create a routine. I’m not spending the right amount of time for each task I’d like to complete, even on a daily basis. Do you have any tips that help keep you on track? I’d love to hear ’em!time
  • blogging:  Working towards another successful year of doing what I love and being better at it. DIY dream art
  • loving:  Adjusting to an empty nest means there’s just something missing at home. Our girls are on their own and we lost our doxie 3 years ago. In 2013, we’re opening our hearts and home to a dog. Our rescue application has already been submitted. Just waiting for a match. Can’t wait to share our new fur-bundle of joy with you when the time comes. If you’re a long time DIYShowOff follower, then you know that our doxie, Niski, was a big part of my blogging. I can’t tell you how excited I am to have a canine assistant again.
  • hobby:  Become a better photographer {practice.practice.practice.}

Roeshel

  • DIY:  Of course there will be DIY! on the list: a dreamy cottage style bathroom makeover is a must as well as finally completing the family room/craft room but my biggest DIY *wish* for 2013: new windows, a welcoming front door (previous owners re-routed the ‘front’ door to the side when building an enclosed porch) and some pretty landscaping. It‘s a mess of a jungle out there! This is the view of our old farmhouse from the road…

fixer upper farmhouse

Seriously…a holly bush has turned into a 20 foot tree. And it looks as if this old farmhouse has turned her back to the world in shame, doesn’t it? Hoping to help her smile with pride in 2013.

Wishing you a happy, healthy, amazing new year…

Happy New Year Wish

My Happy New Year wish for you

Is for your best year yet,
A year where life is peaceful,
And what you want, you get.
A year in which you cherish
The past year’s memories,
And live your life each new day,
Full of bright expectancies.
I wish for you a holiday
With happiness galore;
And when it’s done, I wish you
Happy New Year, and many more.

DIY Wire Hurricane and the DIY Holiday Highlights Party

This will be the last DIY Holiday Highlights party this season.  Are you sad? Or glad the holidays are nearly over?
New Year’s Centerpiece

I was at our local True Value and came across “hardware cloth”.  Intrigued, I brought it home.  Then got creative, using it to dress up my candles!

Here is what I did.

1.  Measure candle and mark height and width of candle on wire mesh.

2.  Using wire cutters, cut the wire to the correct size. I went a few inches bigger.

3.  The wire mesh comes wrapped in a long piece of wire.  Cut small piece of it to use as a “tie” and make a cylinder, overlapping rows.  It’s tricky to get it not to be crooked.  I used needle nose pliers to help bend the “tie”.
4.  Embellish.  Weave twine to create a monogram, add seasonal tags that can be swapped for the change in holidays, add ribbon, etc.

Warning – make sure if you accessorize the wire that you keep embellishments away from the flame! I’m sure you know that but just in case, I don’t want you to start a fire!  If you’re a little accident prone, maybe try flameless candles. 😉

Since I love to re-purpose things, especially DIY…I also love them on our glass cannisters which aren’t labeled.  Cannister cozies!

I was one of the bloggers selected by True Value to work on the DIY Squad. I have been compensated for my time commitment to the program as well as my writing about my experience. I have also been compensated for the materials needed for my DIY project. However, my opinions are entirely my own and I have not been paid to publish positive comments.
