PLEASE POP OVER AND TELL THEM DIY SHOW OFF SENT YOU.  🙂  Most referred traffic wins (not sure who my competition is but I’d love your help!).
BHG Holiday Gifts Under $20
$4.97 for a Silver Beaded Hurricane.  Who doesn’t love a little glam? This small glittery hurricane comes in silver, gold, red or green and includes 4 tea light candles too!
$9.97 for this hurricane, festive candle ring and oil rubbed bronze pedestal?!!  Isn’t this festive and so pretty?  A great grab bag gift idea…
Add a yummy smelling BHG 4″ Warm Vanilla Creme candle for $3.50.
$15.00. Everyone loves sweet aromas during the holidays. I know certain holiday scents bring back Christmas memories for me. I have an electric scented wax warmer on each floor of our home and I love them. I get a lot of compliments on the scents and a few admirers so for under $20, someone special is getting one of these. It’s so pretty too…

Delicious scented wax melts are $2.00 for a six pack. At this time of year, my favorite scents are Spiced Apple Wreath, Iced Winter Cranberry and Spiced Sugar Plum. My entire home smells so good. Not too strong but heavenly. (The above picture is upstairs in our hallway. As I type this up, I’m sitting downstairs in the living room enjoying hint of Spice Sugar Plums, listening to Christmas music…it definitely inspires holiday spirit!) Tip:  To get old wax out of the dish, let cool then stick dish in the freezer for a bit, remove and wax pops right out.
Another small but noticeable positive? I love that everything is packaged square. It makes it so easy to gift wrap!  (Am I the only one who hates misshaped plastic packages? Those definitely call for quick gift bag this time of year instead of being pretty wrapping paper. Getting into one of those packages can be a literal bloody nightmare.)
Just some great affordable ideas from BHG that make great hostess gifts, grab bag gifts, teacher gifts or something sweet for someone who has everything or is hard to buy for. (Or – every year I buy something and wrap it for the occasion where an unexpected guest stops in…I love being prepared just in case and any of these items are thoughtful and festive.) See something you like here?  Let BHG Live Better know at here ~ they’d love to hear about your favorite.
Now back to the regularly scheduled…

DIY Holiday Highlights and True Value Pipe Fitting Candle Holders

Who knew that True Value Hardware sold decorative decor?  Well, mine actually does sell holiday decorations (and TRAINS!), but this is just about the most simple DIY project ever. Just something I picked up while shopping for another DIY project.  It’s got a little industrial character. Just a little creative repurposing that even the most DIY-challenged person (like one who’s brain is already into next week’s vacation)…

Pipe fittings

(you could even spray paint the pipe fittings but I love mine the way they are)

Instant Industrial Candle Sticks…

Restoration Hardware price would be ridiculous.  True Value Hardware price is less than $10 for a set of 3.

Not just for Christmas…I love unique objects turned decorating and when was the last time men in your family noticed or commented on your decor? I think this one will get an admirer or two. What do you think?

I was one of the bloggers selected by True Value to work on the DIY Squad. I have been compensated for my time commitment to the program as well as my writing about my experience. I have also been compensated for the materials needed for my DIY project. However, my opinions are entirely my own and I have not been paid to publish positive comments.

DIY Project Parade and DIY Holiday Centerpieces

I was going back through previous Holiday Highlights parties and wanted to bring my centerpiece from 2009 back to life for those of you who might be new because I still love this simple DIY centerpiece…

I wanted a rustic/natural looking winter centerpiece for my new barn wood trestle table.

Materials are mostly things I already had:
  • Pine Wreath or pine clippings (I use a faux wreath and add real pine cuttings)
  • Candle
  • Glass vase or mason jar
  • Faux snow (the only thing I purchased but you could use epsom salts too)
  • Optional:  ornaments

I put together a centerpiece that turned out to be exactly what I was looking for.

To give the centerpiece a little more Christmas spirit. I added some ornaments and a mix of pine and juniper clippings to fill the room with a Christmas-pine scent. 🙂 Lots of pictures. I just love it.

1.

I‘m thinking of doing this again this year. I love the simplicity and natural elements.

But I love 2. last year’s antique chicken feeder centerpiece too utilizing pine cuttings, candles, pinecones and an antique chicken feeder…(but it does serve a new purpose as a cook book library shelf).
3. There’s also this creation from earlier this year when my Christmas centerpiece included reindeer on a bed of a mix of fresh/faux pines, candles and fresh roses in brown glass…

or
4. Create something new!
What do you think?
