I love holiday hosting, entertaining and getting together with friends! As you know, I love essential oils too. 😉 I recently hosted an essential oils Make & Take Holiday Open House for my team (along with their guests). We had a great time! Here are a few ideas for hosting:
Invitation:
As you can see, I charged $20 per person. Most guests supplied their own Young Living essential oils if they had them. I shared my own supply with a few guests not signed up. And one guest who didn’t have her kit yet created the recipes without essential oils (which she added at a later time). While $20 didn’t cover my cost of materials, snacks and prizes, it did help tremendously. My goal wasn’t to make money but to provide a ‘thank you’ and fun interactive learning environment for my team. Create the same on a smaller scale, balance cost with expense. Have a good time! {For out of town guests/those who are unable to attend, email recipes & ideas.}
Food…I added peppermint essential oil to gluten free brownies, cinnamon bark essential oil to pumpkin bread, had lime essential oil on hand with organic/non-gmo chips and salsa and tossed some popcorn with melted coconut oil, sea salt and a few drops of lime essential oil.
Drinks: I supplied a flavored water station with icy cold bottled water, citrus essential oils (tangerine, orange, lemon, lime, grapefruit and Citrus Fresh) with glass bottles and festive paper straws.
As well as a hot chocolate bar with organic cocoa mix, peppermint essential oil, marshmallows and candy canes.
Door prizes: (Thieves hand sanitizer, essential oil bottle labels, lip balms) were drawn every half hour (winner had to be present for this). Entries included name, email, phone# and check boxes for hosting a class or interested in business building.
Raffles: I sold tickets for raffle prices. This was a huge hit and ticket sales covered the cost. I purchased a few Young Living holiday items in advance and set up a raffle. Winners were drawn at the end of the day.
Diffuse Young Living’s Christmas Spirit essential oil blend. Crank the Christmas music!
Holiday DIY gift Make & Take: Each guest paid $20 to make 10 gifts. I supplied everything but the essential oils. Most (and most are organic) ingredients and ‘tasting spoons’ (good for mixing, cute tied to a jar) were purchased in bulk from Amazon. Containers (tins, bottles, jars) were purchased from the bridal favor section at Michaels. Trays are from Target. Bowls from the Dollar store. Spray bottles from AbundantHealth4U. Other supplies: measuring spoons, funnels, measuring cups, medicine droppers, paper towels, gift bags for guest to take home their treasures)
Set up at the dining room table:
You may need to adjust ingredients to fit your container. Everyone had fun playing “chemist”.
There was a Decorating Station in the family room. Ribbon, labels, gift tags, washi tape, etc. for making gifts pretty!
It was a fun filled day of hearing testimonials, answering questions, reviewing the Essential Rewards program and business side of things. It was a great time getting to know local team members and getting excited about essential oils.
Happy Holidays, oily friends!
I love my essential oils! I love my oily team! Want to join the fun (not to mention the movement for healthier living, natural options and a chemical free home)? Let’s talk!
Check out my essential oils page for more information on how you can get these amazing oils in your hands too along with helpful freebies, a gift from me, and tons of support.
Your post could not have come at a more perfect time!!
I am hosting a small mixer with a small and special group of moms. I already had planned on a DIY make n’ take using essential oils, however I hadn’t really put the concept in action just yet. You just took a huge load off of me. can I say THANK YOU!?!?! although your party is much further than I plan on doing, I very much hope to do the sugar scrub and bubble bath, maybe subsequent activities in the future. Thank you for sharing the event, I’m sure everyone had a good time, that is one party I would not miss! oh and by the way the beautiful table decoration using succulents next to the door prize drawing is amazing, I sure hope you have a tutorial on that too!
Wow, amazing!!!! Can you share the sugar scrub recipe too please? Thanks so much for sharing all of this!!
Hi Emily!
Here’s a link to the sugar scrub recipe: https://diyshowoff.com/2014/11/11/diy-essential-oils-sugar-scrub/
Hope that helps!
This looks like such a fun event! Where did you get the little trays that you used to do the make and take projects?
Hi Michelle! I got them from Target (in the section with kitchen/dishes/etc.). Good luck!
This is perfect! I am planning to do a make and take event in two weeks! What wonderful ideas! I tried emailing you for the graphics/recipes, but it bounced back to me. Just messaged you on facebook, hopefully we’ll be able to connect!
Hi Michele! Got it and emailed them to you! Good luck at your event! xo
Where did you get all the different shaped cute little glass bottles with cork tops?
Hi Allison! They’re all from Michael’s Craft Store (some in the glass vase aisle and others the bridal/party favors). Hope that helps! Good luck!
I just came across your DIY Holiday Make N Take and I just want to compliment you on an amazing job! Your graphics, your decorations, your details! And you home is beautiful too! I love your creativity. Thank you for sharing them. Oh, and how did you get the chalkboard looking labels for some of the containers on the finished product? I love that!
I am also a Young Living distributor. I wish you great success in your Young Living business and God’ richest blessings for you and yours.
Have a Merry CHRISTmas!
God Bless,
~Page Kidd
Hi Page! Thank you so much and those chalkboard labels are stickers from Michaels. Hope that helps! xo
I did my own make and take today and LOVED reading through and seeing your ideas. Amazing how many great things we can share while using Young Living Essential oils.
This is awesome!
Your blog post on the DIY Holiday Make & Takes is exactly what I need to jump-start a newly enlisted team member who absolutely loves DIY essential oil gifting.
I would love to have the recipes without the watermark and I plan to have my entire team follow your amazing blog. You are indeed blessed with creativity.
May I use the invite and tweak it for personal use?
A TX grandmother who discovered you on Pinterest while digging for oil.
Hi Mary Kathryn! You sure can use the invite! I apologize for the delay. I’ll get the recipes emailed to you asap! Thanks so much for stopping by! xo
Just found your pin and WOW! I am so impressed. What a beautiful party. You thought of every detail! Thank you for sharing your ideas! I guarantee it was a hit!
This is great, thank you so much for sharing!!
Hey! Love the set-up you had! I have not hosted a take & make class yet! Do you have any good recipes for a summer session?
Hi Amanda! I have a few (check the tutorial section of my blog) including an outdoor/camping spray and several yummy recipes. I hosted a class and made up a cooling mist and after sun spray too. Hope that helps! Good luck!
I’m looking into “compliant” Make & Take’s and am having a hard time finding recipes now that the “rules” have changed with “dietary oils” and “aroma/topical” oils. I noticed you had peppermint and thieves recipes but they are for topical. What would you suggest for changing this to compliant recipes? I love all your ideas! So cute!
Hi Lori. My post has been updated. In order to stay compliant, I’m sure you can choose whichever oils you like abiding by the descriptions/labeling (essential oils with a recommendation for topical for creams and lotions – lavender is always a good choice). Good luck!
HI! I was wondering about your organic hot chocolate mix. Was this purchased or homemade? Thanks for all the cute ideas!
Hi Gwenna! I purchased the organic hot coco mix on Amazon: http://amzn.to/1kUSTY4
Hope that helps! xo
Can you tell me where you got your jars, tags, and trays? I have looked everywhere but never seem to find the right size labels for jars and fun jars that don’t cost way too much.
Hi Kate – I get most of mine from the wedding favor aisle at Michaels Craft Store (use the 40 or 50% off coupon). Same with the tags, etc. The trays are from Target last year (clearance) so not much help there. Good luck!
where did you get the funnels?
It’s been a while, Caffie. I think probably Amazon. I’m sorry I can’t be more helpful.
i love those trays! what section in target did you find them? are they for crafts or like a placemat?
It’s been quite a while but they were where the dishes/place settings are. 🙂 Good luck!
Would it be possible to get all of the recipes? This looks amazing! I’m a YL distributor with a large local group and this would be tons of fun.
Hi Kate. I have several of the recipes included in the article. You might also find this guide helpful: https://diyshowoff.com/2016/11/02/holiday-hostess-guide/ Good luck!
I love your displays of the make and take party! Im planing on doing a make and take party real soon! Can you email me the recipes of what you did, plz. I’d really appreciate it!
Hi Kristin! That was a few years ago. I do include a few of the recipes in the blog post. You might also find this gift guide helpful: https://diyshowoff.com/2016/11/02/holiday-hostess-guide/ Good luck!
Hi Emily! What’s a fun post! Would you mind sharing the recipes with me? I’m looking for some fun Christmas gifts! TIA!
Hi Ashley. You might find this blog post helpful for recipes and ideas: https://diyshowoff.com/2016/11/02/holiday-hostess-guide/
You are truly gifted and have inspired me! It appears everyone rotated at each seat, is this correct? How do you handle flow and overall logistics? Thank you!
Thanks, Eliza! Yes, people rotated and it seemed to just flow. No stress!
What is the purpose of the pinch of epsom salt to the container once you have put the oils in?
Since oil and water don’t mix (the oils will sit on top), it helps to emulsify.
Where did you find these trays? Love them!
Hi Deb! It’s been a few years, but from Target (in the dinnerware aisle). Good luck!
