DIY Essential Oils Sugar Scrub Recipe

I recently held an essential oils holiday open house for my Young Living essential oils team and first time guests. One of the activities involved creating some DIY gifts. I’ll be sharing the recipes here and there in the next coming weeks for holiday gift ideas as well as tips for hosting such a party.

Ingredients:

4 tablespoons granulated sugar
3 tablespoons melted coconut oil
2 tablespoons carrier oil (such as grape seed oil, jojoba oil, olive oil, etc.)
approx. 8 drops of essential oil of your choice
4 oz. container, label, gift tag, ribbon, etc.

Directions: Add drops of essential oil to sugar in a small bowl. Mix well until combined. Add carrier oil to melted coconut oil (I use a double boiler.). Slowly add the oil mixture to the sugar mixture while stirring constantly. Carefully transfer to a small gift container like a glass jelly jar. (Mixture will harden a little as it sits, melt easily when exposed to warm hands and heat.) Decorate and embellish container. Get creative! I used a round chalkboard label on the canning jar lid and added a small spoon tied with a ribbon.

Makes 1 gift sized amount. Increase ingredients to make a bulk sized batch.

Vinyl Decal Tutorial for Stainless Steel Tumbler {for essential oils}

Once I started experiencing the benefits of using Young Living essential oils, I’ve been adding grapefruit, tangerine and sometimes lemon essential oils to my water. Love it! It’s definitely increased my daily water intake! However, because Young Living citrus essential oils are so potent, using a glass or stainless steel drinking vessel is recommended.

I found this awesome stainless steel tumbler (including lid and straw) on Amazon.

It works beautifully – keeps drinks SUPER cold with a double insulated wall. Design wise, it’s a little boring and plain so of course I couldn’t help but create some vinyl decals to dress it up a bit.

Materials:

Happy Crafters glossy adhesive vinyl (mint)
transfer paper
Stainless steel tumbler, lid and straw {affiliate link}

What I did:

I added my designs (shapes I already had on hand) to the Silhouette Designer Software template, making sure they were at a size that would fit my tumbler. Designs are previous purchases from the online Silhouette store accessible through the software.

I sent the design to cut.

I adjusted setting as needed for cutting vinyl (you may want to do a test cut).

I loaded my adhesive vinyl glossy color side up into the machine.

I clicked “cut” and removed vinyl from machine when cutting was complete.

Then, I peeled (weeded away) the vinyl that surrounded the design.

Next I added a piece of transfer paper to the decals and rubbed with a credit card to ‘transfer’ the design.

I peeled away the transfer paper, separating it from the wax papered backing (vinyl decal should now be on the sticky side of the transfer paper).

I placed the decal sticky side down onto the tumbler’s surface then rubbed a credit card.

When I peeled away the transfer paper, the decal transferred to the stainless steel surface. All done!

*Now stainless steel tumbler must be hand washed (do not run vinyl through dishwasher).

Much cuter! And since my mom, my daughter and I all use these tumblers, now I know which one is mine! It makes a great holiday gift idea for your essential oils team or oily friends and family.

Painted Storage Box Craft

Organizing the desk top / homework station for the back-to-school season? A small storage box keeps school and homework accessories within easy reach but not on display.

Materials:

FrogTape® Multi-Surface
acrylic craft paints and foam paint brushes
spray laquer
wooden box from craft store (or DIY)

What to do:

Tape off a design using your FrogTape. Stripes, checkers, plaid, triangles. So many options!

Using a credit card, gift card or just your own thumbnail, burnish the edges of the tape. Meaning: make sure the edges of FrogTape are good and stuck down with no gaps.

Now the fun part: paint each section. YOU customize colors to coordinate with decor or season.

While paint is still wet, carefully remove FrogTape. Then let the paint dry.

Give it a quick light spray of lacquer and let dry.

*Optional: embellish with washi-tape and decoupage, add a drawer knob, drawer pull or leather handle, adhere something from the junk drawer or little plastic animal using hot glue, add vinyl decals or stickers. Get creative!

Use as a pencil box, for keepsake treasures, to store note or recipe cards, for organizing an essential oils collection, to tuck on a bookcase filled with bookmakers and highlighters, to keep cords handy or for a unique way of wrapping gifts.

It’s perfect for storing 70 15ml Young Living essential oils (more if you’re mixing in 5 ml sizes). Great idea for incentives, prizes or gifts – and YOU customize it to coordinate with your home.
