Cabinet Makeover – Veranellies

Good day, DIY’ers! I love beautiful furniture makeovers, don’t you? Today I want to introduce you to a new-to-me blog friend who shares how she removed old paint and refinished a vintage cabinet. Meet: Trisha from Veranellies.

The cabinet before was in sad shape, messy paint job and unloved…

Trisha removed the countertop and got started.
Tools:
  • heat gun
  • scraper (metal, plastic will melt)
Point the heat gun at the paint surface until the paint will begins to bubble. Once it bubbles, scrape with the grain of the wood (more like pushing the melted paint). This will take off the first layer. Repeat to get down to bare wood.

Remove the hardware and sand.

How to Upholster a Headboard ~ The Sweetest Digs

Every single time I see an upholstered headboard, I’m tempted to repurpose our existing furniture so I can DIY one myself. Today Gemma from The Sweetest Digs shares her DIY headboard tutorial.

Tips on How to Make an Upholstered Headboard

Gemma’s poor pillows on her “before” bed had no where to lean or rest…

no headboard

Easy, affordable solution? A DIY upholstered headboard of course! Here’s how she did it…

She purchased her fabric and batting then had Home Depot cut her 1/4″ plywood to the right size (using measurements for her bed).

She laid out the batting on her dining room table.

Next she laid her plywood in the center and stapled the batting to the backside.

Next, she ironed her fabric and laid it out on the dining room table…

and ending at the corners…

It’s hanging in place using French cleats (shown here).

Ta-da! Seriously, she made that look so easy, didn’t she? Who knew it was THAT simple and the result? Stunning! The best part? Total cost: $98! Woo hoo! Thanks so much for sharing, Gemma!

Love it! A beautiful inexpensive way to accessorize with color and pattern! See the full original post with more detailed instructions {and more DIY from Gemma} at

Decorating Ideas Made Easy ~ Beautiful Master Bedroom Makeover

Hi DIY friends! I’d like to introduce you to Jennifer from

Decorating Ideas Made Easy

Jennifer’s website is all about teaching others about interior decorating on a budget and she also runs a blog where she highlights different projects. It’s so fun ‘e-meeting’ others who share our love of decorating. Jennifer is also an interior decorator, and runs her own business. I’ve enjoyed browsing the links on her side bar.

Today she is sharing her beautiful master bedroom makeover which started with beige walls and two pieces of faux finished furniture. Jennifer was ready for some soft color and a calm relaxing retreat. She started with choosing a “Gray Shell” by Porter Paints for the walls because of it’s blue undertone.

{the headboard is an old door!}

Then she painted her furniture white to create a clean and fresh look and purchased bamboo blinds and sheer curtains to soften the room.

Her search for quality and affordable bedding resulted in finding pretty blue damask pattern set at 65% off. Lucky girl! It’s so pretty!

Accessorizing the room with a ruffled pillow, bench and lamps were layered into the room. I love her choice of decorative accents.

As her budget began to run low, her DIY creativity kicked in and she created a beautiful unique piece for $7 for above the bed. So sweet!

Didn’t she do an amazing job on a tight budget? I think it’s so peaceful and relaxing. I want to snuggle up in that bed after a long week! I’d have a hard time leaving!  See more details on this master bedroom makeover at Decorating Ideas Made Easy.
