Guest Bathroom Makeover

Amanda from Tall Glass of Water has the sweetest boyfriend (my kind of guy!). An anniversary bathroom makeover. Yes! Even if you’re not a DIY’er or renovator – who doesn’t want THAT for an anniversary present?  I already have my wording down pat – “honey, 2nd anniversary is cotton, 3rd anniversary is leather, 6th anniversary is bathroom”.  Sound okay?  🙂

Here is Amanda’s bathroom before…

The guest bath now is so pretty.  I love Amanda’s thrifty finds.  She pulls everything together so prettily!

I love the green glass tile accents…

So what do you think?  Anthony did all of the work himself and Amanda decorated.  What a great team!  Get the details at Tall Glass of Water.

And congratulations to Amanda again – she was the winner of the $100 tileshowroom.com gift card!  LUCKY GIRL! Want to see her plans for that?  See her excitement at:  http://tallglassofh2o.blogspot.com/2010/12/one-hundred-smackaroooos.html

Thank you all so much for your overwhelming hugs and words of sympathy…that have given me so much comfort the past day.  It means the world to me!  I know it takes a while but it’s the little things that just make me break down.  Coming in the door today just felt so ’empty’.  I miss my little greeter.

Christmas at our House…and a DIY Holiday Highlights Party!

I love decorating for the holidays and here is a tour of what it looks like at our house this year…

The dining room (there are still a few DIY projects ‘on the list’ like securing the mantel, hanging the door, painting the vent cover on the wall but see my before and after transformation at the DIY Club using Mythic paint, Dremel and my Purdy paintbrush!)

Here was that same doorway before:

Before:

After:  that dang vent is being camouflaged soon! I’ll also do a proper before and after/reveal soon.

When we bought the house…

This is how it looks today…

Now back to Christmas!

The apothecary jars with ornaments was inspired by Sarah at Th
rifty Decor Chick
(thanks Sarah! I hope you don’t mind).  Okay, not just inspired but completely copied but they were PERFECT for my mantel too and if you can’t believe that your home decor is an inspiration and that copying is the best form of flattery…then we all wouldn’t be sharing, right?  That’s my story!  However, our similar holiday color combinations however are a complete coincidence!

The living room in red and gold (same as previous years)…

The back entryway (with tomato-cage Christmas tree):

And just a little Christmas cheer in the kitchen because I’m crazy and decided that not only would I attack a dining room DIY-style, but I’d tackle a kitchen makeover during the holidays (or maybe it’s really just taking longer than anticipated.  Still!) …

Bathroom Makeover!

Marla from Marla Plain and Small (who is anything but by the way) has an amazing bathroom transformation to show off.  It’s gorgeous.  Here is a bit from her reveal but click the link to see all of the details and more pictures!

Bathroom Remodel (before & after)

Before:
Demo time!

Removing drop ceiling…

Besides being completely gutted, the bathroom floor was leveled.

Ready for the big transformation?!?!
After:
 Everything is new.
Marla’s advice:
Save as much money as you can to pay for it with cash
When shopping, see how your items go together.  We took tiles over to the vanities and laid down paint chips…all in the store!
Know what you’re doing or hire someone who does.  My dad did the majority of the work, and we couldn’t have done it without him.  He did electrical, plumbing, construction.  You will be disappointed and discouraged if you attempt something you know you can’t do alone.
Wait for sales, discounts, coupons!
So what do you think?  Stunning, isn’t it?  I love everything from the vanities to the tile, lighting choices, colors and that ceiling!  Great job Marla (and family)!  What a change!
Marla has a fun week of giveaways going on so you definitely want to stop over and get entered (ends Sunday!)
