Nearly four years ago, I painted the faucets in our budget friendly guest bathroom makeover. You can see how I painted them here.
Do I regret it? Not one bit. Has it held up? For the most part. Here is how they look four years later…
These faucets are in a guest bathroom that gets used every day however it’s not heavy use. And I learned after taking this picture that the spout was even less chipped than shown. That’s mostly dried toothpaste. Oops.
The fix: Since my paint is not flaking, I sprayed Rustoleum’s Metallic Oil Rubbed Bronze onto a styrofoam plate (until I got a “puddle” of paint). Then I used a Q-Tip to touch up the paint.
Once that was dry (a few hours), I sealed the touch ups with clear nail polish.
Good as new!
Guest ready once again…
For us, painting the faucets updated the old vintage pedestal sink and kept the cost of our bathroom makeover down. Finding separate hot and cold faucets with their own spout was a challenge so painting the faucets worked for us. I do have to say…it’s rather odd having one spout for cold and one spout for hot. There’s no dilly-dallying washing hands under the hot spigot…ouch! Filling the sink is the only option for “warm” water. Strange, isn’t it?
And in case you’re wondering, the painted floor has held up well too!
See the entire before and after: Bathroom Reveal.
Glad to know they are holding up well. I am thinking of painting my door knobs to the bedrooms. This is helpful! Thanks.
I am impressed. First that you had the nerve to paint them and second how great they look and third how well they have stood the test of time. The entire room looks great.
Very creative! I paint nearly everything, but I hadn’t thought of painting the faucets. Glad it worked out for you…looks wonderful.

I love to hear about how projects last. So many times we read posts about something that was just done–it’s still great info. But when you get to hear opinions 4 years later, you can really be confident!
The faucets look amazing and proves painting them is a wonderful option rather than replacing them.
Recoloring anything in the house is fun, but I’m glad you brought attention to something small. Sinks and faucets are probably looked at more often and intently than anything else in the home when a guest comes to visit, because they have dedicated time to take it in as they’re using it. Love the color balance you have in your bathroom, and I’m glad to know that painting/touching up the sink may not be easy, but it is certainly doable.
good to know
i’ve never thought about
painting faucets
but a friend of mine
is getting ready to sell her home
and needs some cheapo ideas
to jazz it up a little
thanks!

We have a small bath that is rarely used and I hate the faucet in there. I have wondered about painting it. Now I will! Thanks for sharing.
I honestly love those posts that tell us if the make-over was only one-picture worthy or if it helds up to everyday life. Thanks.
These are gorgeous! And you’ve made them look so much more expensive 😉 I’m impressed the paint has lasted so long – I might need to find an excuse to use it myself! Karen x
What a great idea. I love the bronze vintage look and budget friendly is right up my alley. Nice job!
I was wondering where you purchased , your guest bath lighting fixtures .
It’s been quite a few years, Becky, so I’m not sure of the availability but it’s from the Washington collection at Lighting Direct. Hope that helps!
I love the look of painted faucets, and it’s good to know that they can be easily fixed and maintained
Brilliant idea – I did mine in Rustoleum Hammered Metal and they get heavy use everyday so the paint is starting to rub off. I will for sure use your tip to fix them. Thanks for another great idea!
I still love this your bath.
Hi just found your post today from a link at blesserhouse. Nice to see your work on the faucets is holding up well. Not sure as if 2016. My question is what do you do about the drain in bottom of sink in a standard sink? Would you spray that or leave it the standard silver? Hope you still read this comment area.
Hi Valerie! I also painted the drain. It’s still holding up (actually even better than the faucets which did need a touch up). Hope that helps. Good luck! Thanks so much for stopping by!
