I’ve been really lucky with finding thrifty {used} light fixtures. Want to see? Ever wonder how a creative idea strikes? Read on, my DIY friend…
This week, I may have squeeled with excitement when I saw this at St. Vincent de Paul for $9.99 {except that I’m the quiet type and even if I did squeel, you wouldn’t have heard me…but I was THAT excited. I still am!}
and I’m thinking it’ll go in the family room {which, as you know is a work in progress…so what it looks like now isn’t a reveal and those pretty doors aren’t finished either!}…
Then Lindsay had the idea of making it into an accent table – isn’t that brilliant?! ::light bulb over my head:: Re-wire it to plug in, add a glass top and ta-da! It’d be gorgeous all rigged up – no need for a table lamp if the table is a chandelier! Hmmm…now that she’s planted that seed…I just don’t know! {You know I’m indecisive!} But when it’s sitting on the floor, it DOES look like a table!
But I do love to play around. Here’s just an old window on top and an idea of how it’d look. Pretty awesome, I’d say!
This one was purchased for $20 from Habitat ReStore…
and I’m pretty sure it’s replacing the light fixture in the dining room…
Now the dilemma. I love that they’re both huge and will make a beautiful statement in each room. But did I choose the right rooms for each chandelier? I think either light would work in either room so I’m certain I’m going in the right direction. I think. lol! What do you think?
And I love each of them and their aged gold color but I’m so tempted to give them a “WOW” with a coat of spray paint. Check out this inspiration…
{houzz}
I’m no stranger to spray painting chandeliers:
My dressing room chandelier used to be brassy gold…
- Keep my current placement plan?
- Spray paint one or both or none?
- Chandy side table?
Ps. Mr. DIY pictures a big palm leaf ceiling fan in the family room so the light fixture there will be temporary until we decide to choose and invest in the perfect one. And he’s sort of liking our current dining room light fixture, but maybe he won’t notice the swap? Or he’ll fall in love them when they magically appear in place? Didn’t happen with this one in the powder room:
He’s not a fan of the ‘snot monster’. But he tolerates it for me. Love him {and the tear drop light}. They’re both keepers! 😉
After writing up this post and playing with the idea more, I’m thinking if I keep the current dining room light fixture {we’d love a pulley light there anyway}, use the lantern-chandelier in the family room and the caged chandelier as a coffee table/accent table … problem solved, right? What do you think? I am LOVING the chandelier coffee table idea! So, I’m going to work a little do-it-yourself magic, make it sturdy, add a top (I like the window) and change the electrical from hard-wire to plug-in. It’s just too perfectly my style not to go with that idea. Here are some more pictures of the repurposed chandelier table idea (I see a tutorial in my near future).
I’m so glad we had this chat. It’s been a huge help in curing my indecisiveness. 😉
But I might still change my mind. {After all, I do have these for making a coffee table too.}
I think your plan sounds great! I’ve never seen a caged chandelier like that before! It does make a really interesting table!
Brilliant use for the lamp to turn it into a table. Featuring this on my weekly wow’s on Sunday.

Awesome! I’m so excited! Thank you sooooo much, Laura! 🙂
You know, I’m always amazed you still have projects to do. You seem to do so much and your place always looks perfect. This is a masterful plan. You have great imagination – not to mention talent.
Can I ask how you do that little DIY Showoff badge in the corner of the photos? I’d like to do one for the pictures on my site.
Anne, I have so many unfinished rooms in this old house yet and 3 acres to get around to one of these days too. Our house was an old neglected foreclosed farmhouse. I think I have things to last me 20 years and then it’ll be time to start over. lol!
For my photos – after I edit them in Picnik (soon to be PicMonkey), I use a program called Fast Stone to resize and watermark my picture batches. Here’s the website for the free download: http://www.faststone.org/FSResizerDetail.htm
Hope that helps. 🙂
Roeshel – what a find! I think I want to shop at your St. Vince’s. Wow. I love that chandy, and I think the idea of chandy-as-table is interesting, and it is so adventurous – probably too far outside MY box, but I can see you going for it, and I’m looking forward to the final product! So inventive!
oh my… too many choices! I’m not help at all, but I sure enjoyed looking at all these chandys! 🙂
good luck deciding Roeshel.
have a great weekend,
gail
Keep it as the table…it’s too cool not to.
And with all those other pics, I now have to add ‘paint dining room chandy a brighter color’ to the LONG to-do list.
Hi..stumbled upon your blog while hopping from blog to blog 🙂 Love the coffee table idea with that chandy! What is sad (or maybe I should rephrase that!) funny is that I have that 2nd chandy that you plan to hang in your family room, hanging in the entry way in my 1970’s bi-level right now! I hate it but would possibly love it if I could see a “after” photo of what you’ll do to breath some beauty back into it 😉 Will keep my eye out for updates!
Oh my… I need that coffee table! That’s just way too much fun!!!
Shared on FJI Facebook and pinned for SNS 129. 🙂

Awesome! Thanks so much, Donna!
Happy Day on the chandelier and for reading your full post on Reader today! I love the caged chandy as a table. It makes for a very interesting piece. Can’t wait to see what you come up with.
Thanks, Suesan! Yes – so happy the feed is working again! Relief! It’s been a long drawn-out battle. I don’t know what I’d do without Max {my help}! It might have a few hiccups coming up, so if it seems to go back for a day or two – don’t worry. We’re just working on rearranging some things.
I saw you over at Gail’s. The ‘windows’ are still open. I just haven’t had the chance to comment yet. lol I’ll be doing that soon!
Hope you’re having a great weekend!
What a fantastic find! Very cool idea to turn it into a coffee table! How clever!

This is a great find. I am a chandelier swapper myself. It’s pretty cool as a table. Think you could plug it in and make it light up? That’d be really cool and unexpected.
That room that you and Cassity created for HGTV is a reminder — once again — that I need to include a bold accent color in my Master Bedroom remodel. The base colors are blue and brown and white. I’m thinking a punch of orange or red or lime green could be fun …
🙂
Linda
I vote for your final idea! The window frame on top makes the perfect table! So quirky and beautiful at the same time!
I think that’s a great idea. I love anything never done before and this will be fantastic. Can’t wait to see all done up.

Love the chandy table! I was out of town yesterday and almost missed it. Would have been a crime I tell you. It’s so innovative and fresh =) Makes me realize I should always trust my instincts!! I would not presume to give you decorating advice. I am sure I’ll love whatever you come up with for the others =)
That is seriously one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen Roeshel!! After reading your update I’m so glad you decided to leave the one as a coffee table because that was my gut instinct about it. It is just too awesome to not go with it right? 🙂 You never cease to amaze me and we are so glad you share your fabulous-ness with us at Inspiration Friday my friend!
Vanessa
That is an awesome chandelier find. I can’t wait to see what you decide to do with it. I think I would paint it.
Love this post. I am crazy about chandeliers too, but one for a table? I like it. I also love the painted chandeliers and might try that for my bathroom, you have, once again, inspired me.
Hey, Roeshel, that is such a fun piece that no matter what you decide it will look great! It’s so cool! Love the table idea as well. Can’t wait to see it lit up.
Roeshel!!!! I have never seen anything like this before, and I wish I had been the one to think of it first. Now I am going to obsess about how I can make my own chandelier table. I just can’t get enough of looking at it. This is kind of Redoux that makes me just squeal. And I am NOT the quiet type! I will do the squealing for you. I know this may be bad form in some blogger’s (opinion), but I would LOVE it if you dropped by my link party that is open every weekend from now until Sunday at midnight at linked this up. I think my readers would truly love to see this. Thanks for sharing!

love what you did with the chandelier/table. but…. isn’t that big box frame around the chandelier just the structure the chandelier is packed in when it’s shipped? i bought a chandelier online and that’s how mine arrived in the box. :o) however….the one you have looks SO GOOD that way and as a table. fantastic idea. i’m totally adding you to my reader since i have to see what else you do!
Hi Marie! I did write that down – that’s what I think too, that it’s the support/frame for shipping. But seeing it attached like that and sitting on the floor…it just looks like it’ll make an amazing accent table. Or that it’d look awesome hung up with that frame too. I’m going to try the table idea first. Can’t resist. 😉 It’s so nice to “e-meet” you! Popping over to check out your blog too.
