how to make a faux chocolate bar sign, Easter decor

DIY Wooden Chocolate Bar

Pin It

It’s time for the DIY Project Parade and I can’t wait to see what’s been keeping you busy. Have a touch of spring fever? Easter is right around the corner and it’s not too soon to decorate. This week, when reviewing Valspar’s new line of spray paint, I created a faux-chocolate centerpiece to welcome spring.

Materials:

  • Scrap wood (mine is 1 x 5 1/2 x 17)
  • Scrap trim
  • Thin wooden letters spelling “chocolate” (found at craft store)
  • wood glue (Gorilla Glue)
  • Valspar Spray Paint (color:  gloss/roasted coffee…but it’s the perfect ‘chocolate’ brown)
  • 2 thrift store bunnies

1. Sand the edges of scrap 1×4. (I sanded after I glued everything together but I recommend this being the first step.)

2. Using a miter saw, I cut the thin trim pieces to create a 3D border on my piece of scrap wood (lightly sand cut edges).

3. Glue border and letters spelling ‘chocolate’ and let dry.

4. Spray paint the faux ‘chocolate bar’ and thrift store bunnies and allow to dry. I start with spraying the bottoms and/or backsides then spray what’s seen (the top/the front) last.

I love this paint! Fast drying, no drips and no sore trigger finger. The “roasted coffee gloss” looks just like chocolate, doesn’t it? Perfect!

The ‘chocolate’ bar might make a re-appearance at Halloween or for a birthday party accent too.

Looks good enough to eat, right?

I’ll be watching for teeth marks in my Easter decor!  {caution: do not eat!}
