A Pretty Kitchen Nook Makeover and more!

Melissa from Pink Satin Sashes and her husband did a major demo and beautiful job with their kitchen nook.  Here is their kitchen nook now:

This renovation has been a two year progression.
They removed aluminum windows and found two matching old ones to replace them at the demolition store (wish we had a local one!).

Her husband did the electrical work, stuffed the walls with new insulation and drywalled.  Melissa made the inside frames for the windows, added more of the beadboard and made the window seats with storage in them.
I love Melissa’s Christmas sheep too (she thinks the cat ate an eye off of each one!).  After:

Melissa is so resourceful!  Limited budget makes for being creative.  The cushion on her banquet was made from foam from a boat ($8).
The seat cushion covers are so pretty and sewn from cotton sheets!
The outside looks amazing too!

The old salvaged windows.  They were 65 dollars for each set, and magically fit perfect!!!!!!
Beautiful after:
For the exception of trim around the windows , door and corners the exterior is almost done.
Melissa and Mr!  You’re one heck of a DIY team!  You did a fantastic job! I look forward to seeing more!

Transforming Kitchen to Office to Nursery with a Bonus Closet

Yes – you read the title to this post correctly.  Kitchen.  Then Office.  Now Nursery.  And what they call a closet but I call it a dreamy dressing room.
First – congratulations to Jason and Abby from Rough Housing with the Rogers!  They have a new little guy born just last week!
Back to the room in their nearly 100 year old house located in an upstairs mother-in-law suite/apartment.  It’s a tiny kitchenette.  Here it is before when they purchased their house.

Jason and Abby didn’t have a need for an upstairs kitchen since their home was no longer 2 apartments.  Enter Jason and his demo skills and it became an office (with a dresser since closet space is limited in old houses)…

Once baby Austin was on the way, plans for a nursery began to take place. Wall space was awkward in the little room.  The ‘kitchen cabinets while handy as a source of storage took up valuable wall space and were removed.  The tiny closet was covered to allow for more space (don’t panic – there is a closet surprise coming up).

Done!

Jason and Abby built an enclosed porch onto the first floor to create a space for a walk-in closet upstairs off of the baby’s room!  Brilliant!  Doing the work themselves (obviously a little more DIY-skilled and talented than the average person), they saved a lot of money.

They recycled the carpet from the nursery to use in the closet and Jason built the walk-in closet shelving himself.
Here is the the awesome walk-in closet/dressing room and nursery finished.  Gorgeous! Envious?  Yea, me too!
Nursery:
Hard to believe that same space was a kitchen and then office!

Then, as if that isn’t enough to motivate you to change a kitchen into a dressing room (tempting, isn’t it? haha), they’re sharing their $3500 DIY kitchen makeover.  These two are DIY super heroes.

Kitchen and Craft from Take Heart

Check out this kitchen before. Wallpaper border.  Check.  Wallpaper border.  Check.  More wallpaper border. Check.

If you were blessed with this, what would you do?  Run the other way?  Danielle from Take Heart and her husband were up for the challenge and went right to work in making this kitchen a place more appetizing and less pink tiled and less wallpaper bordered.  New cabinets, new paint, new counter tops, new – everything. With little salvagable, they stripped the room and started over.  See the full kitchen remodel on her blog.  The above kitchen is now this kitchen:
I didn’t realize I was holding it in, but isn’t this a breath of fresh air?  I love the transformation! You have to see the details!  (here)  Great job Danielle and Caleb!  It’s gorgeous!

Not only is Danielle a talented DIY’er when it comes to home improvement, she has a great tutorial for a felt and yarn wreath too! I love these!

If you haven’t met her, pop over and show her some blog buddy love. 🙂
