Featured Image Slider Plug In

For my WordPress blogging friends: In an effort to ‘showcase’ certain posts at DIYShowOff, I asked Max from A1Website Pro to develop a featured image slider to control which posts I’d like to promote. You can see it in action underneath my blog header:

Easy to install, then simple to upload thumbnails or choose from your media gallery (up to 35 thumbnails!) with the option to include a link. It’s a great way to control the blog posts I’d like to feature, front and center on my home page. Cool! You can get more info at A1Website Pro along with a helpful installation tutorial.

Benefits:

  • Upon installation, featured images will be pulled from your blog to showcase recent posts.
  • The option to customize the thumbnails that show with links so that you can showcase specific posts such as seasonal, holiday-related, most popular posts, themes, link parties, blog hops, special deals, etc.
  • The potential to increase page views.

Deal of the Month: A1WebsitePro is offering this awesome plugin for $10.95 (regularly priced $19.95) through the end of June 2014.

Party Favor Jewelry Dish

Looking for an easy DIY party favor idea? These melamine appetizer plates with vinyl decals make a cute little gift!

What I used:

What I did:

Measure flat center area of plates. Mine allowed for a 3.5 inch square design. Open the Silhouette Studio Design software and create words using font/text in a size that fits. I created six different designs.

Load adhesive vinyl into the vinyl cutter color side (vinyl side) up.

Adjust blade setting for vinyl.

Weed away excess vinyl from the design.

Apply transfer paper over the vinyl lettering.

Cut into individual designs.

Rub the transfer paper over each piece. I just grabbed a hard plastic name tag with a straight edge. You could also use a credit or gift card.

Peel away wax paper backing, transferring vinyl to the transfer paper.

Place onto plate.

Rub with plastic card and remove transfer paper.

Simple but so many options. Try different colors, different fonts, personalize with quotes, monograms, shapes or words.

Cute inexpensive gift to include with a card or gift basket or to use as party favors.

Perfect for keeping tabs on jewelry, paperclips on a desk, keys in an entryway, spare change in the laundry room, Q-tips in the bathroom, etc.

Random Reflections

I thought I’d try to take the time each week to introduce a little of my other favorite past times, favorite things, updates and just a little “lifestyle” here. I don’t know about you but I really enjoy a peek into the lives of my blog friends. So here we go! Pure randomness:

You may have noticed a bit of a new site design in progress. I’m just do indecisive. Or fickle. Sort of like with the rooms in my home. I like to change things up. Often. My skills are a far cry from a professional graphic designer but I have fun playing. Have any ideas for a catchy tagline to go with this?

I loved spending Mother’s Day with my girls, my mom and my family. See a resemblance?

Random things I purchased this week, (some affiliate links):

Ahhh! Favorite scent: lilacs! In full bloom!

DIY from around the web that made me gasp with delight. My DIY fix for the week:

  • Gorgeous white kitchen reveal – love her choice of materials!
  • Another awesome kitchen reveal – Can’t you just picture us hanging out with Gina around her kitchen island, nibbling beignets and having fun?
  • A beautiful shed update – wow!
  • I know I made a beautiful dog bed last year but how many dog beds is too many for one spoiled dog? I love this modern pet bed!
  • Now that we’re finally working a little on our mess of a yard, I’m excited to start planting despite my not-so-green-thumb. Wouldn’t this DIY planter box be a fun project?!
  • Picnic anywhere. So cool!

I’m leaving tomorrow to enjoy a few fun and sun filled days at the cutest cottage on Anna Maria Island with these blog friends: Beth, Carrie, Diane, Karah, and Kelly. Stay tuned for a happy recap (follow along at #annamariaisland and #bloggerpromote on Twitter and Instagram if so inclined) and be sure to give lots of love to two new bloggers who will introduce themselves in a guest post next week!

Oh! One last thing! The annual Earn Your Stripes™ painting contest is taking place right now!!! Grand prize is $5,000.00!! Imagine it! What would you do with that kind of money? And guess what?
