Join in the Roomspiration by adding your own laundry room or mud room by linking up today with Elizabeth from The Mustard Ceiling and her gorgeous stenciled laundry room.
I was getting all ready to do a post full of Pinterest inspiration but I think I’d rather keep it real today and show you our own home. No! Not the laundry room. We hold the record for blogger’s ugliest laundry room ever so we’ll just keep that a secret until there is a makeover to show off.
We have an area we call the “mud room” but it’s not really since no one really enters through these doors. What would you make this space? I think I’ll be looking for some seating to go in here…it’s sunny in the mornings.
When we moved in, it looked like this:
It’s off the dining room. We tore out that single door and installed a set of French doors…
We added a coat/shoe closet to an area that sat back beside the basement steps.
Mr. DIY installed slate tile. Isn’t it pretty?!
We recycled and framed a huge frameless mirror that came with our home…
and here are some pictures of how it’s looked over the last couple of years. I love to rearrange this area!

Then this…
Here it was last Christmas…
The orange chairs from the bedroom makeover (here) even sat in this ‘mud room’ while waiting for their debut in the guest room.
Come back tomorrow when I show you how it looks for fall. The DIY Fall Festival will start one day early this week (Thursday) due to the Roomspiration schedule and hosting Roomspiration-Kitchen Edition Friday!).
Here’s the schedule for Roomspiraton. Hope to see you over at The Mustard Ceiling today!
Wowza! Your "mudroom" is amazing 🙂 Love the tile!
Very pretty. The french doors made all the difference in the world!
I love how you change this room up. Such a pretty "mudroom!" Thanks for sharing.
I love how versatile your space is. The french doors are amazing.
Everyone needs a "mudroom!"
We have the same slate floors you have. We installed them in our kitchen & den as it's one big area. We love them, and have had them down for about 8 or 10 years now.
When I see slate floors I always ask what sealer was used. We used the one recommended by the great tile place where we got our slate (at a bargain!), and it's awesome stuff. Don't have the name of it right now. What did you use? Our James Avery store in town has the same floors and theirs look great too, and have held up really well, but we don't know what they used. I'm always looking for a better mousetrap…
gorgeous! Your french doors are to die for!
I adore seeing how spaces change over time. That is a great space. The B on the mirror is stunning and I really like the photo with the pair of chairs in there, but all the photos are beautiful.
I loved each and everyone! It's amazing how when you added more furniture to the room the bigger the area looked. Love, love, love your idea's and blog!

Oh-It looks just lovely! A perfect, perfect room for a real family to use! I love the French doors-you just can't go wrong with French Doors! xo Diana
Wow Roeshel, your mudroom is gorgeous! It is such a cozy space. I love the slate tile and the french doors. My favorite styled photo is the one with the cream colored wingback, it looks like such a cozy spot to sit and read in the fall.
Thanks for linking up and for being a party of Roomspiration.
I can't wait for kitchen's tomorrow!
