We decided to repurpose this mirror that was hanging over the fireplace when we purchased our home (picture of living room before we bought the house). Remove very carefully. Luckily ours was only held in place by brackets. No glue.

do you have a post where you tell how you did the B monogram? to find such a large one and pick out a font? and then sprayed it with? (i need more details perhaps than your average bear.) i have a beveled mirror that’s about 50″ square, although i don’t think it’s quite square, that came with the house!
Hi Betty! The B is a vinyl decal (in gray) from here: http://www.singlestonestudios.com.
Hope that helps! And it’s held up to 3 years of cleaning and wear. 🙂
oh! thank you so much! huge help. i’m gonna do this. yours is so perfect looking in each iteration.
And easy to apply. I used a dish towel to smooth the vinyl into place (it’ll come with instructions too). And if I did end up with an air bubble, a small ‘nick’ in the bubble with a box cutter smoothed it out. Good luck!
i had to write them because i wanted something slightly different than they show on their site. i told them it was your fault though! 🙂
ok, they’re working on a monogram for me! they said you used “etched glass” as your color. does that sound right? now i’m wondering about hanging such a large mirror. you put a frame around it. i see that in the individual picture of the back of it. then did you hang the mirror weight first and then the frame around it? or did you actually hang the whole thing together? i’m sorry to ask so many questions!
No problem! I love DIY and sharing our experience. Alter the instructions to fit your own needs. Results may vary and what worked for us may need altered to work for you/your home.
That’s probably right. Shelley would know! It does look like etched glass. 🙂
What we did: We glued the mirror securely (I used Lock-Tite and Gorilla Glue and let it cure for a few days) to a piece of plywood which was cut a few inches bigger all around than the mirror. One of those also ate away at the mirror paint a bit in spots…but I don’t mind. It gave it a little vintage detail. I also carefully added weights to the mirror while the glue dried. The entire thing (it’s heavy!) was then screwed into the studs. Then the framing was added directly to the plywood border using a nail gun after it was already on the wall. That mirror has been hanging on our wall for 3 years.
I hope you’ll share a picture! I’d love to see it! 🙂
ok, thank you very much, i believe i can do that! it is an old-old mirror so there are already spots like you describe, mostly on the beveling, so it wouldn’t be the end of the world if that happened in other spots. why did you add weights? and how and where? i’ve never used lock-tite but i’m sure i can handle that. i think this might be my last question round, lol, since you’ve pretty much done the whole thing for me by now!
That’s how our mirror was too – a little aged. 🙂
I added weight to the mirror (I laid down a beach towel first) since I couldn’t clamp the mirror and plywood. It helps to make the glue more secure.
Where can I find the large letter monogram that is shown on the mirror?
Hi Barbara! I ordered mine from Shelley at http://www.singlestonestudios.com. Hope that helps! Good luck!
