Winter gives me spring fever. I love being snowed in when I don’t have to go out but I can’t sit still and get bored looking at the same old thing (as if I have time to be bored) but staring at the same four walls day in and day out and looking at tons of inspiration (thanks to my talented blog friends!) – well, it makes me itchy to re-do and re-arrange. And so, my living room was the victim of my decorating bug. Today, I give you the evolution of the living room.
Earlier this week I shared what I’m reading and where I read…
Then I spied a blank wall space (oh no! see it in the photo above?) and got crafty and filled it…you like?
Then I pulled the couch away from the wall.
Before…
Which led to taking down a gallery of photos from around the tv mounted above the fireplace. It did look like this but I was never really happy with it. I have a plan for this area anyway…
no more…
Then I arranged the collection of framed prints/photos (mostly past thrift store finds) to this wall…
Here is how I hang pictures on plaster walls:
- I use sharp upholstery tacks and painter’s tape.
- I saw this trick on Pinterest {original source}. Add a dot of toothpaste to the hanger on the back of a framed print.
- Place on wall.
- Spot to hammer nail is marked (wipe hanger/with damp cloth).
- Using tape (important step that helps prevent creating chunks of broken plaster), set nail into place and hammer.
- Pull off tape.
and re-arranged them some more. (I just built my design as I went along, but laying out pattern ahead of time is helpful or use paper like this gallery wall tutorial for symmetry.)
It occurred to me afterwards, that when I saw the gallery wall that Lynda from Focal Point {love her!} did a while back, that gorgeous image/her design talent stayed with me. I loved that her thrifted collection went all the way to the floor. While mine isn’t nearly as glam, thank you, Lynda, for the inspiration! 🙂
Then I ‘shopped around the house’ and moved the console table from the sitting room (or dining area for two) to the living room and styled that.
Much more interesting…
I’m loving the change of scenery (I need to swap out some of the prints/photos yet, fill in some spots and make a sign…more DIY!) What do you think? Do you regularly re-arrange or have you perfected a look you enjoy?

Roeshel, I love the changes you have made to your living room! The new gallery wall with the console table looks great. I too am always changing and rearranging things around our house. I’m never truly “done” with a space or room 🙂
Your gallery wall is AWESOME! you added so many great elements. Thanks for hosting.
I love your reading area and your gallery wall of botanical prints! Your living room looks great as well. I really like the how low you took your pictures on the wall!
Oh my goodness Roeshel! That all looks absolutely gorgeous! I totally know what you mean about itching to make some changes and I’ve been doing some of that around our house too. Happy to be linking up a fun little project I did in my son’s room and thank you so much for hosting us! 🙂

Your living room redo is fab, and I love that gallery wall. Never would have thought to put it all the way to the floor (although in my house it would be too tempting for little hands!)
Thanks for hosting!!
P.S. Couldn’t resist linking up one more! Hope that’s ok! 🙂
Your reading area is perfect! I didn’t even notice the blank wall until you mentioned it but now that you added those letters it really completes the area.
Thanks for hosting!
I love every inch!! My pin board runneth over!! It’s so cozy, warm and inviting!! Perfect place to hang out! You are such an inspiration to me =o)
I like your gallery wall. Nice changes. Thanks for hosting.
I love this space! I am definitely a tinkerer. Always moving one little thing here or there…try it on for size and then mix it up again. I love to watch the evolution in your spaces. 🙂

Your room is wonderful. You can tell it is a space that has a lot of things that you love. Tastefully done and very comfortable.
I love shopping my own home–that’s the best kind of upgrade! Your house is sooo cozy. I’d definitely spend some time reading in your nook. 🙂 Thanks for hosting, Roeshel!
Looks great! Love the mix of pieces!
Love the tour! Thanks for hosting! I have the same DARLING white horse!!! Love it, LOTS!!! Hope you’ve had a great weekend!!! XO, Aimee
Your gallery wall looks great! I like the mix of lots of different items. By the way, I’m not sure if you consider recipes DIY or not. I haven’t linked anything up in a few months — since I went back to work full time. If recipes are against the rules, feel free to delete my Homemade CFA Nugget Sliders (#87). I thought about it after I linked up. Thank you so much for hosting!
I love your gallery wall and the table vignette. Thanks for hosting! Have a great week!
Thanks for hosting such a great link party every week! I am loving the changes you made, the READ and the console table with the rearranged art look fabulous! Want to come do my family room? 🙂 Please?
Love your Gallery Wall and all of the changes you made to your lounge room! Thanks heaps for hosting 🙂
Hi Roeshel ~
Just a note to let you know that I’ve nominated you for a Versatile Blog Award. Here’s a link to my blog post that talks about it:
http://laurejanus.blogspot.com/2012/02/versatile-blog-award.html
There’s also a link to the Versatile Award site that explains the premise behind the award. I picked your blog because I always leave with something I didn’t have before, whether it’s inspiration, validation, information, or a smile. Sometimes all of the above! I always read your posts regardless of how many posts I have in my reader or how tired I may be. Thanks for your contribution to the blog world, your words make a difference to me and many others, I’m sure. You’re welcome to choose your own favorite blogs to award but please don’t feel obligated to do so. People are busy and this isn’t meant to be one more thing to add to the to-do list. Just know that your blog brightens my day!
Cheers ~

Love the changes! Your new gallery wall and console table area look terrific! It’s like that in our home, too. One small change leads to another and another. It’s the fun part of decorating a home. Thanks for sharing and for hosting this party each week.
Such a beautiful space!! Thanks again for hosting 🙂
You and I were both playing in the living room this weekend. While the snow flew outside!! Thank you for hosting each week.
I’m loving your changes! Your gallery wall and vignette below the stairs is genious!
Ack, my comments keep going missing!
I just wanted to say that I LOVED what you did with your living room; the gallery wall is stunning and it’s placement is just perfect – it’s very inspiring!
Thanks, also, for another wonderful party!
I have linked up my monthly contributor project that I did for Remodelaholic (link #26): a Ballard Designs bulletin board knock-off. It’s a project I have been meaning to do for quite some time now, and the disaster all over my office desk finally necessitated that I get organized! Hope you like it!
Take care,
Christina
Thanks for hosting! I love the styling in your bookcase. That little horse is so pretty where did you get him?
Today, I linked up my Cheap, Organic Face Wash recipe. It ends up costing less than $.01 per use and is super easy to make! I hope you enjoy! Have a great week!

Hi Roeshel! Everything looks so pretty and I just love the way you decorate. Thanks for hosting your wonderful party.
Be a sweetie,
Shelia 😉
You crack me up. I’m thinking what bare space?! I had to scroll a few times to figure it out. It’s like when there is a teeny tiny little bare spot in my garden I think, “oooh, a spot for a new plant!!”
haha, Stevie! It sounds just like your garden! I have to fill every nook and cranny! 🙂
I love your reading nook! Can you tell me where you got the framed botanicals at? Love them!
Thanks, Dee! More information about the botanical art here: https://diyshowoff.com/2010/02/13/progress-in-my-livingroom-a-sneak-peek/. A super easy/inexpensive collection! Let me know if you have any questions. 🙂
Thanks for stopping by!
Roeshel
Thanks so much! 🙂

Your living room is lovely, not my style but would be nice to visit it. Your hard work and creativity shows.
Hi Linda! Thanks for taking the time to stop by. In all honesty, it’s not my style either. lol! But it is my husband’s and I have to take his preferences into consideration on a room here and there. (The family room makeover will be more my style for sure.) Not to mention, new living room furniture isn’t in the budget. For working with what we have, I’m liking how it’s coming together but if it was up to me, I’d start from scratch! 😉 lol!
Have a great weekend!
Love the new arrangement. Especially love the baskets underneath, where did you get them?
Thanks, Christa! Actually, they came with the console table. It’s been a couple of years so I don’t think it’s available. Here’s a picture of what I got: http://www.kaboodle.com/reviews/closeout-linden-street-cherry-road-sofa-table.
