DIY inspiration from the Project Parade

These links in the DIY Project Parade are inspiration to me personally this week. I’m so thankful to all of the talented blog friends who take the time to link up and show off…it’s just the motivation I need for a few things I have going on with helping my sister decorate her new home next month.

Carmel at Our Fifth House shared her DIY pegboard headboard and I’ve been looking for budget friendly DIY ideas to surprise my nephew. Isn’t this awesome? I love all of the DIY details in this room. And I need to make that bed frame too! Great job, Carmel!

My teenage niece is going to want a glam bedroom and I see a pretty DIY chandelier makeover in my near future like this beautiful one shared by Ada’s Interior Design

We’re going to need some fabric and Dear Emmeline has reminded me that repurposing vintage curtains {sheets too} is a beautiful, affordable option with yard sale season in full swing…

My sister has an old dining room table and a thrift store eat-in kitchen table and we can’t wait to give them a ‘makeover’. The table makeover from Art is Beauty is bookmarked in our idea folder…

As soon as my sister goes back to FL to pack up the last of her things, I’m sneaking over to redo her master bedroom. I’d love to surprise her with a beautiful romantic master bedroom. Have you seen the master bedroom reveal at Raising Up Rubies? Breathtaking!

Seaside Shelter

Meet:  Dani from

Seaside Shelter blog

The guest room in Dani’s house has been redone more times than any other room in their house. It has housed numerous guests, served as a home office, slept an infant son, housed two foster daughters and was most recently turned into a sitting/television/game room. Spring has arrived in Newport and Dani has lots of overnight company so as of last week the “round room” as they call it, is back to- and will forever remain – The Guest Room.
The biggest challenge in choosing a purpose for this room has been that it is round. The room is actually a turret with only the inside wall being flat. It’s good sized, 16′ in diameter, but without flat walls, where do you put your furniture?
Secondly, if you stand in the center of the room and speak, your voice will swirl around your head in the most awkward and uncomfortable echo (the office concept was short lived).

Shopping around the house is always budget friendly! The basket that held the kid’s video games now holds spare blankets for guests.

A Bathroom Reveal

Meet: Gemma from

The Sweetest Digs

She shares our love of thrift shop hunting, interior design and DIY. The Sweetest Digs is a blog about Gemma’s adventures in transforming her first house from boring to beautiful on a shoestring budget.

Gemma’s bathroom before was pretty non-descript, totally storage-deprived with a danky old tub.

Goodbye boring beige bathroom. Hello classic, bright, and fresh. She’s a whole new woman.

Love the white with beautiful shower curtain and spa blue glass tile accent.

Gorgeous floating vanity/sink…

Let’s throw in a little side-by-side comparison for good measure. She’s come a long way!

Budget breakdown {goal was under $5k}…

  • tile (marble, subway tile, accent glass tile): $601.23 (originally $900, but we returned some unused tile)
  • bathtub and fan: $364.45
  • accessories (shower rod, towel bar, shower curtain, toilet paper holder, etc): $155.46
  • drywall: $115.98
  • mirror: $30
  • vanity (wood, track system, legs, handles): $176.50
  • vanity sink: $100
  • paint: $64.85
  • supplies (tiling supplies, plumbing, trim, tools, etc): $900.26
  • gift card purchased for friend who helped out with plumbing: $100

Grand total: $2608.73!!!

And after using some wedding gift cards, actual out of our pocket expense was only $1527.67. Not bad for a complete bathroom renovation!
