Halloween Vignette and The DIY Fall Festival

The DIY Fall Festival is one day early this week!
This week, since I moved the wingback chairs out of our ‘mudroom/sitting room/whatever-I-want-it-to-be-this-week-room”, I got to rearrange things again (see yesterday’s post to see the transformation of this room). We don’t decorate much for Halloween but I took what I had and decorated this room just a little.  It’s not quite where I want it to be but it takes me a few days of rearranging to settle down and walk away satisfied plus I’m on the hunt for a settee of some sort for in here.  In the meantime…

This room gets a lot of morning and afternoon sun (when there is sun shining), so it’s a great spot for our plants. Sun = happy plants.  Normally and very fitting for Halloween, I have a black thumb but I’ve managed not to kill a few!

DIY Fall Festival and 31 Days of Spooktacular

The DIY Show Off

Hi friends!  I’m Coley over at What You Make It and am thrilled to be joining you for the DIY Fall Festival.  What better day to be a guest poster?  After all, fall is my favorite time of year! Who doesn’t like vibrant colored leaves, pumpkin pie lattes, and cozy sweaters?

At the start of September I begin covering every inch of my home, interior and exterior, with autumn decor.  The aroma of pumpkins, apples, and squash fill my home and my open-toed shoes are put into storage. By October, my party menu is finalized and I’m jumping for joy with anticipation for our Halloween party.

Because of the fact that I am so neurotic about this holiday and that there are endless creative Halloween-related projects out there, I started a 31 Day Spooktacular Series on my blog.  That’s right, 31 posts about Halloween and the best season ever! Recipes, tutorials, guest posts, and costume ideas… anything to get you in the spirit.

So far, I have posted a few DIY projects like these specimen jars
these free Halloween printables (that look amazing in vintage frames)…

 adorable acorn bites
There are a ton of posts coming up (23 more to be exact)  that will give you even more inspiration. I would LOVE for you to join me!

Thanks for letting me share with you today!
I can’t wait to sit down with a hot cup of cinnamon tea, wrap myself in a fuzzy blanky, and look over your DIY Fall Festival link-ups.  Everyday I’m amazed at the creativity out there on blog-land 🙂

DIY Fall Festival (and Roomspiration – Dining Rooms)

The DIY Show Off
Jena from Involving Color is kicking off Roomspiration – Dining Room edition today. She’s the perfect host for the dining room edition. She has a gorgeous inspiring dining room!  With the DIY Fall Festival falling on the same day as Roomspiration – dining rooms, I dug out some fall decor and made the dining room mantel and buffet festive.

The Lettered Cottage
A great place for Fall inspiration!

I used a mix of traditional fall colors and added a bit of blue. I want to do something different for a centerpiece next week but for now, I’m working with what I could find in my stash of autumn.
Dining Room Mantel
The “pumpkins” are  .59 thrift store balls of yarn.
The pine cone candle holders are new.
Buffet (old vintage dresser)
More shots of our dining room.
This wall before had an ugly door without character when we bought our home.
Barn door track was a $30 Craig’s List find.  Glass door is original to the house, found in the barn.
Mantel is also original to our house, stored up in the barn rafters for years.
Just for fun, this was our dining room when we bought our home…
This is our dining room today. Quite a change! What we did:  Tore down ceiling tiles and put up dry wall ceiling, changed out light fixture (to be changed again one of these days), ripped out carpet and sanded/refinished pine planks and now new distressed wide plant bamboo flooring has been installed, swapped out ugly door for prettier one and changed the door trim to matching wider trim and of course – painted.  🙂

What do you think?  Do you decorate using traditional colors or do your own thing?

Link up! Inspire me! FALL DIY and decorating ONLY please!
