Easter Egg Hunt Mantel

Do you have certain family traditions for celebrating Easter?

Everyone in our family has a holiday they host and somehow we ended up with Easter. Each year, our Easter gathering includes a traditional Easter dinner and an Easter egg hunt…

and we always do a cheesy family photo too.

Make it the best Easter with Michaels! They have everything from eggs & baskets, to bunney décor and more!

My April Michaels’ Makers’ challenge is “Easter decor” so I decked out our mantel with an ‘egg hunt’ theme.

DIY ‘egg hunt’ banner – construct a pretty festive banner for any occasion with this tablet of pre-cut paper banner pieces, alphabet stickers and ribbon.

I also added a string of butterfly garland. Quick, lightweight, perfect!

DIY faux marbled eggs – Gather supplies: craft eggs and a marbling kit (it works for paper and fabric too! So fun!) Follow the instructions provided with the kit.

Add 1 magic powder packet (there are 8) to 8 oz. of water in the tray and stir.

Add drops of paint and swirl to create a design and color pattern.

Roll craft egg into the mixture.

Then set on rack to dry.

So pretty!

And of course I snagged all of my decorative accents to finish off the “Egg Hunt” theme at Michaels including the rustic numbered cubby shelf, wire egg basket, bunny (….for peeps’ sake! How cute is he?!),

potted cabbages (darling!) and these grass squares that clip together…perfect for ‘hiding’ eggs!

All set!

Spring Floral Centerpiece

SPRING floral centerpiece? “What the heck, DIYShowOff?! It’s still winter!” I know. I know! But I’m not a fan ::whine:: so let me indulge in thinking ahead to warmer days, fresh air and specifically, a spring with no snow. Okay? Okay! haha! For real, my Michaels Maker Challenge for February is “spring florals” so let’s embrace that pretty theme by collecting inspiration for the next upcoming season, starting with this gorgeous spring centerpiece! My inspiration was a spring theme around this beautiful Indigo Luxe/Aria (Celebrate It) wired ribbon: blues/indigo and navy, purples/eggplant and plum, oranges with white. Not colors I’d normally coordinate but oh my – how pretty, you guys! Right? Hey, Mr. Moss bunny thinks so! Look at his content expression…

Okay, so it might be February, but there is a breath of fresh air, happy florals and spring in the aisles of Michaels Stores! Michaels has over 1,800 blooms & greenery in their new Flower Market, including trendy succulents and real-touch flowers.

Materials I used:

grapevine basket
moss bunny
wired ribbon (2 1/2 in. x 3 yards)
florals
floral tape
optional: hot glue or twine

Tools: wire cutters

What I did: (Yes, in the event that you spy micro-fleece in the images below…I create in my pajamas. Doesn’t everyone?)

Unravel the ribbon, snip the ends to make them pretty. Get approval from the cat, then proceed to the next step.

(I cut out a “v” in the ends of mine) and find the center of the ribbon.

Starting at the spot where one side of the handle meets the basket, tuck the ribbon into the grapevine.

Repeat along each side, meeting at the other side where the handle meets the basket.

Secure ribbon to basket with hot glue or like me, simply weave twine in the ribbon loops inside the basket and tie.

Tie a bow where the ends of the ribbon meet at the handle and embellish with a flower if desired.

Using wire cutters, separate floral bundles. I have 2 pretty pre-assembled store-bought bouquets. I keep those intact and add more flowers to them for more color. Not shown: secure bouquets by winding floral tape (grab your decorative washi tape in a pinch) to bind stems.

Then tuck bouquets inside of the basket.

Nestle in a moss bunny…

Display on dining room or side table. Now it’s beginning to look like spring!

I think it’s the perfect decorative accent and spring centerpiece to display starting right after Valentine’s Day up until Memorial Day.

This smug moss bunny agrees. How about you?

I’m loving the unexpected color assortment…

And know what else? I’m really tempted to head back to Michaels for all of this romantic spring decor to finishing the look. ::drool::

Magical Mistletoe Greenhouse

A fun popular Christmas tradition is kissing under the mistletoe. A sprig of the plant or a kissing ball is hung at Christmas time and those caught standing beneath it can expect a kiss.

And for December, the Michaels Makers December Challenge is to

make it joyful
make memories
make it simple
make the season bright
make it in 1-2-3
make holiday magic
make it fun
make it in under 30 minutes

Making this magical mistletoe greenhouse checks nearly all of those boxes!

Display the magic of a romantic moment! What a treasure for merry memory making! And making up this mistletoe greenhouse centerpiece is as easy as 1-2-3. Let’s get started!

I used these supplies from Michaels Craft Store:

glass jar with wide opening – I love this one with a cork lid!
potted silk greenery
faux white berries
burlap ribbon and twine
fairy lights and batteries
stickers
glue dots (or hot glue)

Tools I used:

scissors
wire cutters

Time it took me: 15-30 minutes

What I did:

Cut a piece of burlap ribbon to fit around the bottom of the glass jar (to hide the light pack. Secure with glue and twine.
Install batteries into fairy light battery pack and place into the bottom of the glass jar.
Trim down faux plant if needed and add white berries. I cut them with wire cutters and inserted into styrofoam and place plant into bottom of the glass jar (in the center of the string of lights).
Embellish with letter stickers spelling “mistletoe”.

I love the greenhouse look! The glass enclosure, cork lid and fairy lights make it more special than it’d be without, doesn’t it? It’s a unique specimen and a magical way to display a faux floral arrangement.

The holidays are a time for family, friends and memories.
