I‘m not ready to show off today but I did finally finish painting the kitchen cabinets. ::celebration dance:: Tutorial coming soon and next step is choosing our countertops. I’d love to have a kitchen like the one shown below with soapstone counters, but realistically granite is our best choice since our kitchen is Mr. DIY’s creative lab of delicious cuisine and experiments. Soapstone dream….

Granite dream (more realistic). We’re hoping for “jet mist” granite like this which has a similar look to soapstone:
but ultimately, it depends on what we can find locally. I know it wasn’t a choice at two local granite places two months ago when we first started looking. Wish us luck – since I can’t have soapstone I “need” to find this granite locally. I don’t want to settle. Edit: Please note those are dream/inspiration pictures above. My doors are still not back on (they’re drying) and our current countertops are blue laminate! The floor is white OLD linoleum. I can only dream that my kitchen will look as beautiful as above!
In the meantime, I’d love to see what you’ve been up to!

Hi Roeshel! Oh, I can't wait to see your cabinets. I know it's s lot of work to paint them. We've done that too and probably not the right way! We just recently got granite countertops and I was so afraid of them because of all I'd read. But – I love them. Mine don't look like anything but granite but they are really easy to maintain. Good luck in your search!
Be a sweetie,
Shelia 😉
Thanks so much for hosting this party each week!
Can't wait to see your kitchen makeover. I'm loving all the remodels I've seen thus far on your blog. Really wish it was warmer so I could get started on ours. Hope you find the Soapstone or Granite countertops you like. Soapstone is one of my favorites.
Thanks for hosting! ;D Michelle
Roeshel! I want pictures! 🙂
I'm not a very patient person.
thanks for hosting,

Thanks for hosting again. I'm so excited to see your kitchen makeover.
Hey Roeshel,
I am new to your blog and LOVE it!
In my 9-5 life, I sell and design kitchens and bathrooms with natural stone. Another name for the Jet Mist is Virginia Mist. All the granite companies change the name around to make it exclusive for certain people which make it hard to find 🙁 I don't know where you live but that granite is actually quarried in Virginia and we sell it at our company in Atlanta. It is one of the BEST granite's as far as I'm concerned. When you get a honed or antiqued finish on it, it really looks and feels like soapstone but it is one of the densest materials you could use on your counters–it's one of the most dense if not the most in the granite category. Can't stain it or scratch it! Just thought I'd let ya know!! I can't wait to see the finished product!!
I, too, am dreaming of soapstone or carrera countertops in my older home. I'll be interested to find what you come up with the on the granite end. I look forward to reading about it and seeing the pictures!
Thank you for hosting this wonderful party and for stopping by, Roeshel! I will keep my fingers crossed that you find your soapstone look-alike locally. Good luck!
Meredith @ Welcome to Heardmont
We put in Soapstone in our kitchen about 2 months and LOVE IT! I have 3 kids (9, 12, & 14) along with a husband. We have had no issue with the counters. No chipping at all. I went back and forth trying to decide on a honed granite or soapstone and my love for soapstone won out and I am so happy with the decision.
Happy dance, celebration dance…wooo-whoo for getting the cabinets painted. Good luck finding the granite! We had tile and when we redid our kitchen switched to granite – I considered other options, but this was the best for us and I have never regretted it. Looking forward to seeing the whole kitchen!
Oooooh, look at you with your fancy kitchen!!!! 😉 Well done on the cabinets – that the kind of job I would need a big kick to get around to doing! I've never seen sopastone tops on England, only on American blogs. Can't wait to see what you end up with.

thanks for hosting! Love how your kitchen is coming along 😀
You must be thrilled to have the painting project complete, it seems time consuming. Even without new counters the kitchen looks great.
I love your sink. The end.
Tiffany – I love that sink too and WISH it was mine! lol I've tried to convince Mr. DIY to get a farmhouse sink but 1. The kitchen is his domain so I need his approval when it comes to design (usually I can get away with doing what I want or make him want what I want). 2. He does the cooking and the enamel/ceramic would be chipped within the first day. 3. White? Again, he does the cooking (not the cleaning). haha. I'd still clean it everyday if he'd give in but this is one room where what he wants matters most and he's dead set on a zero-radius stainless steel sink. Darn! 😉
Thanks, though!
Can't wait to see your finished product! I bet it will be even better than the photos of the "sample" kitchen you have shown…
Thanks for hosting…
Take care,
Lisa
