I love fashion posts and seeing the great outfits some bloggers can throw together and if I have to go out, I’m all about dressing up or being dressy casual. I LOVE clothes! But most days, you’ll find me wearing this:
Looks like the cover of my new DIY Duds line, doesn’t it?
I’d love to design a DIY clothing line! Wouldn’t that be fun?!

Stylish, sexy, trendy? No. DIY appropriate, safe and comfy? Yes. When I’m about to paint or sand or get all DIY dirty…this is what I wear. Sometimes I wear my green Frog tape t-shirt or Gorilla Glue t-shirt or an old thermal shirt and I’m usually wearing my pink safety glasses which I seem to have misplaced but sunglasses are a great back up.
- Paint splattered gray fleece pants with low pockets for my cell phone/tools.
- Long sleeved t-shirt.
- Safety glasses or sunglasses.
- Pony tail to keep the hair out of face and out of the paint can although it’s still possible to end up with paint in my hair.
- Old slippers. Most of my projects are inside so these are the most comfortable. I also learned the hard way that spray painting in good shoes or bare feet is not recommended unless black speckled toes are trendy. I also learned when sailing across the floor in socks, that having rubber soles on my feet is necessary.

Oh, and Niski insisted on sharing what she’s wearing these days.
Nisk is modeling the new Elizabethan collar. The ProCollar. She’s prepared for flood and at her height, you can’t be too safe. We call it her doughnut. Poor little girl has Compulsive Licking Disorder and a rash right now. It’s a mystery. No mange. No fleas. No ticks. But she’ll chew and lick until her hair falls out. There’s nothing sadder than a scabby doxie. This little girl can’t catch a break this year although she’s completely recovered from the paralysis! Hurray! Now we’re trying a natural diet to rule out food allergies although she’s on an eating strike (until absolutely necessary) because dog food made with real meat, real rice, real cranberries and real fruits and veggies just doesn’t suit her gourmet palate. I guess. She’s NEVER been finicky so it’s a tad out of character.
This one was taken with the cell phone camera (pardon the poor quality). Here she is at the 4 inch high gate awaiting passage to the Titanic. Okay, not really. It’s the Mr. DIY trip-proof gate to the living room. No trespassing for doxies. There’s a dangerous wool rug infested floor in there that might cause another attack of the itchies and admittance is only allowed via human arms to a lap or pillow. Don’t let those sad puppy dog eyes fool you. She’s adjusted to the collar and she does get to sit on a lap or pillow every time we watch tv.
At least her Halloween costume is taken care of. Niski, the lifeguard. Gilligan. Lifesaver.
What about you? Do you have comfy/paint splattered/safe DIY attire? Let’s see! This linky is only for “What I Wore – DIY”. For linking up your DIY project to the DIY Project Parade, click HERE. 🙂
I have a lab/border collie mix that has had the same problem for years…we took him to the vet for allergy shots every month and sometimes more often for years…one time at the groomer she accidentally clipped him (he is short haired) instead of another dog…wonder of wonders … his itching got better…now I have some clippers and keep him clipped to the skin and he has little to no problems…I don't know if it's a scientific answer or just a lucky break…but it might be worth a try. He seems to be a little cold in the winter sometimes but a sweater fixes that!!!
Just thought you might like to hear our story…Have a wonderful week!!!
Haha, see even in sweat pants you look cute! And I love your dog. Cute as a button. 🙂

I foster dogs, and have had quite a few with severe allergies – did your vet recommend chicken? Its always the first meat my vets advise against. We usually switch to venison, rabbit, or some sort of fish first, eliminating chicken for several weeks. You can email me if you have any questions, I have tons of info on dog-friendly allergy-friend food 🙂 mrsintrainingblog@gmail.com
Yes, most of my clothes are paint splattered and DIY friendly. Yours look better than mine. I keep a few articles for when I am not doing anything, but that is rare.
Hey Roshell!
Cute pic, I think I have the exact same outfit on right now!! hehe
Our Max was licking his skin a lot and we switched to the ever controversial raw food diet (salmon to be exact) and he stopped licking the vet said it could be an allergy, but they never found any specific allergy. The once he was on it for a while we were able to switch him off, now if we see him getting itchy we switch back for a couple on months and it goes away!!
Hope Niski's feeling better!
Poor Niski! Does it never end for this poor little dear? A friend of mine's dog had this problem. She would chew and chew her feet till they bled. They could not find out what caused it. She ate special food. They did allergy testing. The vet finally decided it was just a habit she had gotten into. She had to wear a cone too. She is gone now….she died of old age. But there were years of trying to solve this problem. I wish you good luck with Niski. I can't imagine her being such a picky eater. My dachshunds will eat anything and everything.
There have been nights that I've made them a big batch of spaghetti because we were out of food and that is what I had. I should have taken pictures because they had noodles all over each other.
Sounds like your dog has hot spots. My parents had a dog that got them but I cant remember how they cured them. They probably got something at the vet's for it. Hope you can find something that works for her.
My sister's dane had the same sort of skin condition and did very well on Solid Gold dog food. She used the bison and salmon diet. Only down was terrible doggy breath from the salmon.
Now that's a WIW outfit I can relate to!
I love your work clothes! They are the best!
You look adorable even in your DIY outfit.
Poor Niski 🙁 I do love that collar though. I hope it helps! We had a cat that would lick until she bled. We even took her to a dermatologist and they couldn't find out what was wrong with her. The only thing that cleared it up was steroid shots. Obviously, they tried not to do those too often, but it did work.
If your dog is older and licking around joint areas, she might have arthritis. They feel the pain in the joint and they lick it to make it feel better, only it doesn't help. It might not be any type of allergy at all. btw our dog was allergic to grass… what the heck?
Thanks for the comments. We've been to the vet way more times than I want to recall this year. We've tried all sorts of tests and remedies with no answer. Don't worry. We're not giving up and we'll find a solution. Hopefully the new diet will solve the problem and the collar will help heal the existing hot spots in the meantime. 🙂
Hi,
My name is Sue. I had a beautiful Golden Retriever named Madison. Madison passed away when she was 14 years old…one of the loves of my life I miss dearly. Madison had the same issue and after much testing and trying all sorts of recipes for her diet, we came to find out she had problems with her thyroid. The test was expensive here in Canada as it was sent to the states for examination. They have to take the blood specimen from the artery in the neck. Not pleasant, however, completely worth it. We never had a problem after that. She did have to take thyroid meds, however, they relieved her completely of the itching and chewing. No more hot spots either! Hope this helps, then again, maybe you've tried this already.
Good Luck,
Sue
I love this post and that you were brave enough to show your work clothes! My usual work uniform is nasty old flannel pants and a t-shirt from 1988 that was passed down to me by my mom. It was her painting shirt and I somehow got it one day. I've learned to also wear old socks because I've stepped in paint and ruined some nice pairs!
I totally thought that was a picture of Julia Roberts! You are one hot DIYer girlfriend! Glad the puppy paralysis is gone, hope the rash heals soon!
Ladies, you look hot!! Mad props to you & Niski for keepin' it real in blogland!! So glad she is recovered, so sad she is Licky McLickerson. Gidget has bouts with allergies a few times a year, so I am all too familiar with the licking, chewing, & butt scratching!
I was in a similar outfit all day today – it was a BIG paint day around here! Thanks so much for hosting this linky! -diane
My dachshund Maverick is having the same problem with the chewing, licking, and scratching. I brought him to the vet after I realized he had scratched a raw spot behind his ear. And the vet said it *could* be allergies. I've tried Benadryl, but that just makes him crazy (i.e. running around and not sleeping). Since he is usually glued to me, I can easily stop him when I'm home. But I have to make him wear the cone of shame when I leave the house. I am also transitioning him to new food to try to rule out food allergies.
As for DIY clothing, I don't do much painting, so I don't have paint splattered clothes. I can usually be found DIY-ing in a tank top, pj pants and flip flops. It's all about comfort for me!
I am not brave enough to share my paint clothes. They are really covered with paint though. I got covered last year when a paint bucket fell. Luckily it was right before we started laying our floors.
If anyone ever changes the floors they are going to be very curious about our subfloors.
I don't think there is anything cuter than your dear niski. But don't tell my chiuauah mafia!
Poor little baby! I hope your pup gets better soon, starts munching on some food, and finds something else to lick :). I get worried over my pup so much sometimes! I really love him & its hard when they are hurt (or think they are) because they can't really tell you.
I hear you on the DIY duds…..I try and dress nice even though I am covered in clay nearly everyday at school. I've just accepted it 🙂
