This poor mailbox had seen better days…don’t you think?
Time for a new one…
One of the perks of owning a vinyl cutter (I have a Silhouette Cameo) is the convenience of making my own vinyl labels/stickers/decals.
Mailbox Upgrade
- new mailbox
- Happy Crafters adhesive vinyl (I chose metallic gold as shown below.)
- transfer paper
Open up the Silhouette Studio Designer Edition software. Click the text button on the left, choose font and type house numbers and a monogram design. Size to fit flat mailbox surface.
Click the “cut” button on the navigation bar. Choose “vinyl” and adjust blade settings. Insert vinyl color side up into the machine and click “cut”.
Remove vinyl from machine and weed away excess vinyl.
Apply a piece of transfer paper and cut apart individual designs. I have three. Numbers for the front of the mailbox, a monogram design and numbers for the side.
Rub with a credit/gift card to ‘transfer’ the vinyl decals from wax paper to transfer paper.
Peel away transfer paper (vinyl decals should be stuck to tacky transfer paper).
Place onto clean, dry, flat surface of mailbox.
Rub with credit/gift card to transfer design.
Peel away transfer paper.
Ta-da! Pretty new address decals for the new mailbox.

That looks great! How about a tutorial on how to attach the new mailbox?? Mine’s looking about like your before picture, except worse because the door fell off!!
The door was just about at that point, Marybeth! Wet mail when it rains…I know how that feels! 🙁
I didn’t do the tutorial for attaching a new one because we used the same exact post/set up because the neighbor’s mailbox is on the same post. My husband just removed the screws from the old and screwed on the new one (although I did spray paint the existing rusty post too).
Such beautiful work! Love how it was all done by you.:)
boy, I envy you having a Silhouette. That is awesome. I think I’ll check EBay for a used one!! thanks for the post! and the box, he he
It is beautiful now. Great job. I see they let you have white flags there. Here they must be red.
So many rules.
I am glad to now have a wall mailbox just at the side of my front door. I got tired of replacing mount, post and mailbox every time a drunk driver ran into it back when I had 3 acres.
Good job! I just did mine a few months ago- It makes me smile when I pull in my driveway. 🙂 http://www.notquitewonderwoman.com/bottle-tree-mailbox/
How long do these last (for you)? I’ve been doing laminated paper signs, but the water seeps in and ruins them.
The mailbox decals? They’re still there after two years! I used vinyl from Happy Crafters.
