For a long time, I resisted making the transition from Blogger to WordPress. Then when I started having issues with Blogger, I made up my mind to do it. However, as you know, I’m technically challenged. Sure, I’ve been blogging for 4+ years, but that doesn’t mean I’m confident with my limited html skills. With the help of Brent, all of my posts were transferred. Nothing was lost. Relief! Well, except that I was lost. Now what?
Through a couple of blog friends, I met “Aimee” {and Erin and JP} from byAimee.com. I simply told her what I was looking for…things I didn’t know how to do. I could not have done it alone. Working with the byAimee team set my mind at ease as they patiently listened to my questions, concerns and wishes and accomplished what I couldn’t. I didn’t know where to begin. It was like having someone hold my hand through a complicated move. She’s not only a design genius, she’s crafty AND working on another fun new site too! You’ll want to visit byAimee to read all about it…I promise – things you’ll definitely want to check out!
What you’ll find at byAimee.com:
A LOT of services including web design, graphic design, consulting and even SEO and writing help! The byAimee blog has a lot of helpful tips and interesting information too. I’m loving the new WordPress Wednesday series. So…if you’re a WordPress user or beginner or wanting more information on transitioning to WP, pop over to see how the byAimee team can help you. 🙂
Disclaimer: I was not paid for this post. I just wanted to share my experience of moving to WordPress with you.
Good to know. My blog will be making the transition to WP in a few weeks. I’m ready to be done with google now that GFC is going away and Picnik too. I’ll stop over and say Hi to byAimee.
Good luck, Ange! I’m sad about GFC and Picnik…loved both of those services. Time to get used to another change! lol Then when we do, things will change again! Keeps us exercising our brain, right?! 😉
totally freaked me out last week when I moved, but decided to do it early on. I still have trouble with pictures and galleries, but am learning. Good luck – it looks great!
I know how you felt! I’m still learning too! I wanted to tell you that I love your Ikea spice rack turned book shelves! Adorable! (I couldn’t find where to leave a comment though.)
I thought you’d switched over awhile ago, Roshel. My bad. I’m glad you had/are having good luck.
Kim, it’s been a few weeks. lol I wanted to share my experience asap but it’s been a little crazy and I’m getting the hang of it. 🙂
what is GFC?
OOh I googled it lol gotcha!
Sorry, Lesley…I wasn’t thinking. It’s Google Friend Connect. The Google widget on blog side bars that shows followers, adds blogs to a Google reader.
Congrats on your move! I’ve always wondered what it’s like on the other side of blogger. 🙂
We’re moving soon too. Scared but excited about the possibilities. Headed over to visit Aimee’s site!
Heather
Seems to be the way lately. I am not a big blog so I will stay, but seems blogger is not keeping up. Glad you found good help! That is the best way to go!
Hugs, Lisa
OMG! I’m scared and I’ve only been blogging for six months. Should I switch now? Again, I’m scared but it seems like wordpress is the way to go. My super smarty brother, maybe he is your cousin too… 🙂 told me after I had done about 5 post I should switch.
Well it looks like it was a smooth transition. You must have been biting your nails that day. I know I would be. I have thought about it many times lately. I am just on the fence. I hate learning new computer stuff. I finally understand half of what I am doing and it took me two years.
Roeshel, it was a true pleasure working with you. Thank you for being so fun, relaxed & open to our ideas!! Your website turned out beautifully and thankful we were a part of it!! 🙂
GFC is going away too? Terrible news this week – first Picnik, now GFC 🙁 Keep us posted on the transition and how complicated it is, if at all!
WordPress scares me. I’m glad to hear you made the switch alright, and i didn’t loose you on GFC (I hate that).
I hear ya… I was so terrified and wrestled with my self about taking the leap… but I’m so glad that I did. Every week I feel like I’m getting WP more and getting more comfortable. Totally agree… what is google thinking???
Good help is hard to find! Heck, I’m married to a software engineer but have had to figure out WordPress mostly on my own!
My family blog is still on blogger but my special interest blogs have been started on WordPress- one is my gardening blog (personal) and the other is the Home & Garden Club blog (I work for a non-profit garden). I’ve found it pretty hard to figure out the WordPress stuff but it’s doable. I’m learning stuff through Lynda dot com and there are some great tutorials in there to help with the technical stuff. The Go Daddy people have provided amazing service to me too when I’ve messed things up. I still have a lot of work to do to get the blogs where I want them but it will be worth it.
I’m going to be switching in the very near future as well. Made the decision last week. It does make me nervous though. Glad your transition was smooth. Have a great day!
Shari
Glad to know it went smoothly. I’m considering the move based on a lot of factors but I’m so scared of losing my following. I’m such a small blog to begin with that I’d hate to start all over again.
you don’t have to lose followers… the majority of follower tools can be transitioned to WP.org…. if you hire the right person!
I’m glad things went well 🙂 I’m terrified to make the switch. I’m scared of losing all of my followers. I might have to make the leap though if Google keeps pulling all of this junk!
It was recommended that I switch to WordPress too but that was AFTER I started my blog and heck I’m still trying to figure it all out! 🙂
OMGoodness, Roeshel, that’s awesome! Everything looks great! Congratulations!
Sincerely,
Miranda
Your blog looks great! I’ve been on WP since I started on the advice of my 2 step-sons. I used a free theme for a year while I was learning the ropes, but I recently had my blog redesigned. I’d like to encourage more people to make the switch but hire someone who knows what they are doing!
Oh, wow! It looks as if you made a seamless transition!
Welcome to WordPress, I think you’ll like it.
Congratulations to moving to WordPress, I started my blog using WordPress, and really like it, but I’ve also been lucky in having a great design consultant. The only thing I don’t like WordPress is being unable to change the header for the seasons like bloggers can In order to do this I have to use a designer. many WordPress templates don’t let changes to just header! Good Luck!
