A phrase that fits our home and perhaps yours too: “It doesn’t have to be perfect to be beautiful.” That’s the mantra at The Nesting Place and one that applies to not only our decorative surroundings or our design style but imperfect beauty in real life.
The Nester has just released an amazing book that covers the topic of accepting imperfection: The Nesting Place.
Here’s a description that says it so much better than I ever could since I’m only part way into the book: Perfection is overrated. Popular blogger and self-taught decorator Myquillyn Smith (The Nester) is all about embracing reality—especially when it comes to decorating a home bursting with boys, pets, and all the unpredictable messes of life. In The Nesting Place, Myquillyn shares the secrets of decorating for real people—and it has nothing to do with creating a flawless look to wow your guests. It has everything to do with embracing the natural imperfection and chaos of daily living. Drawing on her years of experience creating beauty in her 13 different homes, Myquillyn will show you how to think differently about the true purpose of your home and simply and creatively tailor it to reflect you and your unique style—without breaking the bank or stressing over comparisons. Full of easy tips, simple steps, and practical advice, The Nesting Place will give you the courage to take risks with your home and transform it into a place that’s inviting and warm for family and friends. There is beauty in the lived-in and loved-on and just-about-used-up, Myquillyn says, and welcoming that imperfection wholeheartedly just might be the most freeing thing you’ll ever do.
It’s easy to get caught up in focusing on what I don’t have, how my home compares to others, what’s missing. You too? This book helps change and redirect focus to appreciating what we do have, living and that creating a beautiful home not only doesn’t have to break the bank, it doesn’t have to be perfect to be beautiful.
Find a quiet space, put your feet up and read every word. You’ll walk away inspired to look at your home in a fresh new way by embracing imperfections and flaws (they can be good and comforting!), accepting that a lived-in home is a happy home, as well as gain tips for making the most of where you live. Now. Without waiting for perfect conditions, without maxing out the credit cards.
Here’s the story behind the cover —> http://www.thenester.com/2014/04/risk-of-imperfections.html And here’s more info about the book: http://www.thenester.com/landing/the-nesting-place-book.

My favorite part of our home is our laundry room and pantry that we just added. My least favorite is our dining room. It has become the “clutter” room. Yuck!
My back deck is my favorite part of my home.
My favorite part of my home is my living room because it’s so fun to decorate. I have a mantle, a large ornate chalkboard, and a neutral color scheme that I change out with colorful pillows and seasonal decor. My least favorite…my kitchen – tight, cramped, weird layout (for such a large home), only TWO and a half drawers…never enough storage!!
Thanks for the chance to win this great book!!
I love hanging out in my family room with doors open to the outside. Least fav is our basement.
My favorite part of my home is our main room that houses the living and dining areas. It is the part of the house that we spend the most time in so we also put in the most effort! My least favorite area is our guest room/office. It doesn’t really have a good transitional feeling between the two areas and it feels cramped. We don’t spend that much time in there, which is why I think it has received the least effort 🙁
Thanks for the giveaway!
Can’t wait to get my hands on this book!
My favorite place in our home is the kitchen where everyone gathers when we cook and have meals together. My least favorite place is a room off the front porch that is waiting to be cleaned out and organized. 🙁
Thank you to you and Nester for this offering!
Oooo! I’d love this book! And how gorgeous is that cover!
Great giveaway! Keeping my fingers crossed!
Right now, my favorite part of my home is my BED! I just got a new platform bed with a real headboard…makes me feel like I’m finally a big kid 🙂 My least favorite part would definitly be my basement. Since it’s just cellar access, I hate having to carry everything outside and around the deck to put it in storage.
Would love to read the book. I struggle with “comparisons”. Thank you for the chance to win it!
The favorite part of my home is my kitchen. It’s bright and allows so much light into the house.
Hm. I love and dislike parts of each room, so I really can’t choose! I do love my closet though!
My least favorite part of our house is our kitchen because I really feel like its so small and we need to really spend some time coming up with some organization and small decor ideas. My favorite room in our house is our bedroom because when we moved in, I worked really hard to make sure it was a retreat so it is clean, organized, and relaxing!
Our bedroom. We only hang out there for bedtime but its so cozy and dreamy. I took a risk with a saturated wall color and I adore it 🙂
I’ve heard so much about this book! I would love to win a copy 🙂
My favorite part is my living room….it’s where we spend most of our time together as a family and my least favorite is my laundry room….it is hideous!
My Favorite is looking around and feeling Content with My Surroundings! Decor, new wood floors and lots of DIYing on a Budget and Thrift Stores! ( Was Hubby’s Home when We met) My least Fave is My unfinished Master Bedroom that I have changed up 4 times in 2 years and just can’t settle on what I want….Thanks for the Chance to Win!
Boy, could I use this book right now….I’m going into my fourth year of renting, due to job changes and out of state move and I am constantly dreaming of my forever home.
My favorite room in the house is either the kitchen or my family room. I love the kitchen because most of the family congregates there, but am also partial to the family room because that is the place we all like to hang out and make memories and watch movies and laugh together. My least favorite would have to laundry room…for obvious reason. Not much fun happens in this room. 🙂
I would love to win that book. I am sure it is a wealth of information and inspiration.
Our kitchen is my favorite room and our laundry room is not 🙂
My favorite is my living room. . Least favorite is my kids rooms.. for now. 😉
Favorite is Living Room! Least Favorite is Kitchen, it is small and has the washer and dryer and water heater in it! It drives me nuts
These are lessons we all could live by. i’d love to win. CTD
The most favorite part of my home would be my girls room. My Dad and I teamed up on over the top custom made girlie-girl bunk beds and Inswoon watching them swoon! My least favorite is my lower level. I’ve never really put in the time and effort it needs to meet its potential. Right now it’s neither perfect nor beautiful! :). Thanks for the opportunity! Can’t wait to read this book!
I am embracing imperfection these days.
I would certainly enjoy marrying up the imperfections of daily life and be able decorate my home using Myquillyn’s tips with her 13 homes. I can’t wait to win and read her book! Thank you for this offer to win. =)
My favorite part of my home is my great room. My least favorite room is my sun room/workshop, which is never organized enough for me.
My sweet hubby. Because he humors my crazy whims…
Karen
My favorite part of my home is my kitchen. My lease favorite part of my home is my formal living room.
I went to the bookstore this evening looked for this, but didn’t see it. Would LOVE to win!!!
My favorite part of my home is the family room because its where we spend most our time together. My least favorite part of my home is the guest room because it is a guest room/office/craft room. Too much going on.
I love the concept of this book! So many of us seem to be in constant pursuit of perfection. . . without the script writers, makeup artists, stagers, film crews and directors. I have to keep reminding myself that TV isn’t really real, even with DIY and home improvement shows.
I don’t like my kitchen or bathrooms. They need updated badly. My most favorite place is my craft space. It still needs work, but I love to create. Thank you for the wonderful giveaway.
I love my family room, bright, welcoming and cozy (and messy). I am not particularly fond of my laundry room.
My favorite part of my home is my office where I get to take time away from the husband and kids to read and just be. My least favorite would have to be my living room since it’s in dire need of some interior design assistance.
Favorite room is the master bedroom cause we just finished painting, buying furniture and decorating it. It actually looks like something out of a magazine!
Least favorite would be the dining room since it needs a little pizzazz.
love our family room.
not so much – our master bath – just haven’t done anything to make it “ours”
:))
My favorite room is the kitchen and my least favorite is my master bathroom.
My favorite part is my screened porch, my least favorite is my master bath.
My favorite part about my home is my cozy bedroom. My least favorite is the old brown tiled bathroom!
Most favorite is… my closet. It’s small but organized.
My Least favorite is… the kitchen. It’s a terrible layout!
My favorite space in my house is my master bedroom. It feels like a beautiful retreat. My least favorite is my master bathroom. It is still the builder’s dull take on a beige with a small shower and no trim on the mirrors.
I love my kitchen, but do not like my bathroom!
Favorite is the living room and least favorite is the bathroom.
I love my family room. At the moment, my bedroom is my least favorite!
My favorite room in our home is, unfortunately I do not have one at this time. We are renters and have been in this home for over 2 yrs now. Because we rent my hubby does not think we need to spend any money or effort in decor or fixing up, this leads me to a loss of hope for the future as we will have to continue renting for several yrs to come. We are moving in July and i hope and pray this next home spurs something inside of him to want and allow it to be personalized and made into an extension of ourselves. Thanks!
I would love to win this book but if i don’t i will definitely be buying it!
My favorite part is my big kitchen, good for storage and having guests over. My least favorite is the back porch with old carpet and torn screens!
I love our family room and I wish I had a real laundry room. Mine is in the furnace room 🙁
I tell myself many of these things but it is so easy to get caught up. Staying true to myself and my own tastes, etc… is surprisingly challenging! I work at it. I find being thankful for all I do have keeps my grounded. I’d love the opportunity to garner any extra wisdom I could on the subject though 😉
I think our family room is my fave and maybe my least fav too! We spend a lot of time in here but I think it could use a new couch and other furniture!
My favorite room is my living room. My least is my bathroom.
