My family room finally feels just about complete and ready for a reveal!
If you’ll remember, I shared the before photos a few weeks back. {Family Room Makeover Plan}. With some help from Overstock, welcome to the after: a happy colorful eclectic room.
I located more before pictures..
{when we bought the house}
{right after we moved in}
The details:
I wanted something narrow but a bit rustic to use as a coffee table. The height and length of this bench fit the bill perfectly. I love the “turnbuckle” detail too! The large size navy world map canvas is perfect for behind the couch.
This quote sounds just like something my husband would say. Love it!
Oh deer! Originally silver, I spray painted the deer an oil rubbed bronze with gold antlers for a custom look.
Workspace: We have a separate living room and I also have a home office/craft room upstairs but utilizing a small space of the family room to function as a workspace gives me an area to work on the main floor.
I fell in love with the chippy blue paint on this stool – perfect seating for my repurposed greenhouse frame desk (more on that later)!
Keeping the walls and furniture neutral makes decorating with color fun!
Simply dropping our old mismatched planters into these braided baskets adds just the right amount of texture.
The fuchsia accent pillow covers are the perfect punch of coordinating color.
A dog crate that functions as an end table. I added gold Rub ‘n Buff detail to the scrolly metal design on the front door to give it more dimension.
Don’t be fooled. My girls don’t share. The one on the right chased out the one of the left.
Wall art to fill the blank wall space between the laundry room and bathroom doors.
Attention to detail…a DIY gold-dipped legs treatment adds a little something special to plain furniture legs of this criss cross side table.
Add a touch of glam to a boring chandelier with acrylic ornaments, dangly earrings and transparent vinyl decals.
Hideaway: Adding shower curtains to an old folding screen frame hides the cat tower for a more custom look and gives kitty more privacy. Easily removable for washing too!
That fish tank…ugh. One of the obstacles (along with the cat tree and plants) for this room but the beautiful hand-crafted tapestry makes it all tolerable. 🙂

Now:
Now I have a space for gathering with friends, curling up with a good book, an escape from loud ‘man tv shows’ and a workspace that may keep me from cluttering up the dining room table.
Do you love a mix of old and new? Fun colors or more neutral?
Disclosure: I was provided OverStock store credit to makeover an area in my home. All opinions are in my own words and my own experience. OverStock has been one of my go-to online shopping sources for years…just one of those places to check out when searching for home decor or gifts.
too adorable/wonderful/fun for words!!!!!
Thanks, Jane! It’s not everyone’s style but I love a mix of old and new. I’m still playing with it – those pictures were taken yesterday morning but it already looks different. haha! It’s like playing with a giant dollhouse! 😉 So glad you stopped by! Thanks for taking the time to be my first comment today! Have a great weekend!
Love the color! That tapestry is gorgeous. I like neutral with pops of color and a mix of new and old, with a little rustic added in. Love your room!
Thanks, Melinda! Me too – that tapestry is gorgeous in real life. Beautifully handmade!
This is so pretty, colorful and happy! Beautiful job, friend! I love everything. Sharing on FB. 🙂
Thank you so much, Kelly! I used to keep the French doors closed so I didn’t have to look at the room. Now they’re open wide! Thanks so much for the share, too! That makes my day!!! 🙂 xo
Roeshel the room is gorgeous, I love all the bright and fun colors! Wonderful job

Every tiny detail is perfect. I just love the drapes…. everything is gorgeous. I absolutely love the secret, hidden kitty spot behind the folding screen. I SO very need that one …….. and well everything you have done is what I want.
The entire room is gorgeous, but I LOVE the dog crate! I would really love to get the clunky dog cage out of my bedroom and that crate would look sooo much nicer! Beautiful room 🙂
I adore your living room! I just love that fabric you used for your curtains, your room is a happy room, one you wouldn’t want to leave. You also made the room appear so much bigger, it looks beautiful!
LOVE it!!! That rug is stunning! The artwork is fantastic and how can you not love the pet crate too adorable!
I really like that you used such a neutral base and added the color in your accessories and art. This would work very well in an apartment as well as a home where one likes to change things up frequently, too!
Love all the color Roeshel!!
I seriously love every single thing about this room. It’s gorgeous! So well put-together, an eclectic, and fun. I want my living room to be just like this (only in my house). 😉

Your family room looks beautiful!! I like the colours – it looks so fun and comfortable too, you’ve really done a wonderful job!
I love the color Roeshel! Beautiful room…the Fair sign is priceless!
The whole room is so colorful and fun. My favorite elements are the curtains and the “Fair” art. And the pretty kitty, of course! (I have four of those furry things at my house.) And what a clever way to hide a cat tower. The pretty ones are soooo expensive!
Such a cool space, I love all the colors. It just seems so alive in there with all your interesting pieces. I just love it ~ Lisa
That’s quite the transformation. There are so many awesome details my head is spinning. Thanks for the great inspiration. I love the skirt around your sofa slipcover.
This is my new favorite room in your house! The kitchen is still a close second but I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE all of the color. Looks very bohemian, which of course, I totally dig.
What a huge transformation. Did I say I love it yet?????
I have been dying to leave a comment on you reveal and finally have a computer again. Love it. So fun and bright! And genius how you hid the cat tower.
Thanks, Julia! We’ll never see a hidden cat tree, lonely fish in a fish tank or those plants in a magazine. Have to work around real life but it works for us. 🙂 Good to see your computer back! I need to get over to catch up with you – I saw the survey results but haven’t had a chance to comment. xo
Such a beautiful space–love the colors!! Pinning!
WOW. This makeover is beautiful! I really love those curtains and that rug. I love that you mixed patterns and it works! I struggle to do the same.
I don’t know what to say, I was struck with the colors! It’s like staying in this playing will take away all the negative vibes from us! I love it! Beautiful! I love it!
Love it!!!! I have the same colors in my new living room. This looks spectacular. We have the same taste. You did such a great job. Im a subscriber on facebook. 🙂
I’m seriously gobsmacked, Roeshel! Everything looks incredibly amazing…
HI Roeshel. I’m Megan Romo, designer of the Fair print. I’m so happy you like it. Few things make me more delighted than seeing my work in people’s houses. Thank you!
Megan! I feel like you’ve just left an autograph on my blog! My family loves your Fair print! Thank you so much for stopping by and taking the time to say ‘hi’! xo
The room looks fantastic and I am loving that greenhouse frame desk. When can we expect more details on that? I have been checking back frequently hoping you’ll have posted more about it. Thanks!
Hi Melanie! Thanks! Ugh! I know! I’ve been wanting to get to the desk but there’s so much holiday stuff going on right now. Hopefully very soon (was so busy prepping for today’s holiday home tour on the blog and now for a real life holiday home tour on Saturday…then I can breathe and think! haha)
oh my word – I absolutely love this space! it is so colorful and Fun and yet crisp and modern – perfect! that fair/cotton candy sign made me literally lol! awesomeness

Gorgeous! Love those colors!! What color blue or type paint is that on the french doors? Wow. That’s the show stopper right there. love it.
Thanks, Beth! I’m actually in the middle of redoing/refreshening that room a little (just accents/etc.) but the French door color stays. It’s Benjamin Moore Deep Ocean (with a dark glaze).
Please tell me about the curtain fabric!
