DIY Blog Crush: As a long time DIY blogger, I’m no stranger to Ana White’s awesome DIY building talent. This girl has some crazy awesome DIY skills!
Ana White with daughter, Grace
Her beautiful DIY furniture plans have been sitting on my ‘to-do’ list for years as I work up the courage to actually try building something. I’ve conquered my fear of power tools, but the idea of actually building something from scratch has been a little daunting. When Ana’s new book was recently released, I knew I had to have it and pre-ordered it right away! Guess what. It’s here!
Designer Furniture for a Fraction of the
Retail Cost? Yes, You Can Build That.
The Handbuilt Home shares 34 simple, budget-friendly woodworking projects! As if her blog isn’t inspiration enough, having a physical resource in my hand is motivation to just get over my fears already and just do it already!
{flip top storage bench plans}
What I love most about the book? Not only does she share the details on how to build some gorgeous furniture, she also features some of our super talented DIY friends and shares their projects using her plans. How awesome is that?! So not only is the book filled with step by step ‘how to’ instructions, there’s some beautiful after shots created by DIY’ers we know. You can see a sneak peek of The Handbuilt Home here. I’m really enjoying going through and bookmarking things I love, adding ideas to my DIY notebook…
Press Release: Forget IKEA hacks and glue guns. Ana White, a young homemaker, is revolutionizing the furniture building industry, designing DIY furniture plans that rival the styles of Pottery Barn and Crate & Barrel and cost 1/10 of the purchase price to make. Using basic tools and hardware store supplies, Ana’s THE HANDBUILT HOME teaches readers how to build everything from bookcases to beds to kid-friendly items and storage solutions, even if they don’t have any woodworking experience. And the best part? Building your own furniture means you can customize it for your home and save thousands of dollars off the cost of buying it. Packed with 34 of Ana’s favorite projects, THE HANDBUILT HOME includes easy-to-follow instructions, costs, time estimates, and plenty of helpful tips guide even the most amateur of carpenters through every project. As Ana likes to say, “If I can build it, so can you!”
Starstruck: I was lucky enough to meet Ana this year at the Haven conference and not only is she a DIY super star, she’s gorgeous and humble and real.

I’m a carpenter wanna-be. I do things like that but could really use Ana’s help with her book!
Thanks so much,
Deb
I’ve never built a piece of furniture but love the pallet trend of DIY furnishings.
I shared as a retweet on twitter as @BresBaubles
I love to re-do furniture – but making it seems too complicated. Would love a book with directions!
I built a nightstand for my bedroom before I discovered Ana White. It turned out OK, but now I want to build one using some of her plans!
Ana is such an inspiration! My husband and I built a small sofa table last year…it was a very impromtu build! We were at Lowes and I just picked out the pieces of wood I thought I needed and that afternoon I was staining! It was so fun, but by no means perfect! I’d love to get a copy of Ana’s book and try a few new projects..a bench for my kitchen tablewould be fun! =)
We so need this book! Shh…Santa is planning on building the tlip top bench fir our daughter-in-law’s Christmas gift.
I love working with wood. Anytime I can use the Hubs power tools I’m all over it. I’ve built a few things for our home like a dinning room table and even a clock for my Daughter but I’d REALLY love to build a mantle. We don’t have a fireplace but I want a mantle so bad. That will be my next project.
I built one of her benches as a gift for my in-laws a few years ago! We were all getting tired of their store-bought bench that tipped over if either person stood up! The bench I made was a little longer than Ana’s plans, but is big enough that 4 adults or 2 adults and 3 kids or 6+ kids can fit on it! We love it for family gatherings and don’t have to worry about it tipping over! 😉

We plan om building one of her loft beds for our boys! I cant wait i really hope to win her book. Will be sharing this on facebook
I haven’t built anything since High School woodshop class, but I actually love DIY and have some plans to begin with new wainscoting in our entryway… sounds like we’ll need a built-in-bench, too. Would love this book for inspiration!
I would LOVE to build anything Ana has plans for. Everything always looks easy and beautiful!
I haven’t built any furniture, but would love to try a console table!
pinned!
I would love to win this book though I don’t actually do any building…..I delegate it to my wonderful husband! Thanks for offering this giveaway.
This spring we plan to build our girls some bunk beds and a playset for outside. For the playset, we are going to use her plans.
I’ve yet to build a piece of furniture, but I can’t wait to get started.
I just made the Farmhouse table from the plans on her website last week! It was very empowering to be able to make a 10 seater table for $200 as opposed to buying one in store for over $2000. The plans were incredibly straight forward, leaving no guesswork whatsoever. I will definitely be making something else from her website, I’ve officially been inspired!
I would love to build some built in bookshelves. It has always intimidated me but you are inspiring me!
I have a great desire to build my own heirlooms and this seems the way to do it. I am excited to hear about the new book!
I have never built anything. Although I scour Ana’s site and think “Maybe I COULD do that…..”, I never get up the nerve. Maybe I will soon…..
Ana, you are amazing for too many reasons to list, but I think most importantly is how you inspire women to use power tools and show they can do anything a guy can.
I have put together a couple things and really enjoy it. I would like to make that little country bench first. I would love to win this book but it is already on my Christmas list. I Want IT!
Please enter me to win the book – I can’t wait to read it.
I have built a sort-of piece of furniture out of my head, but making an Ana-White piece is HIGH on my list of things to do someday!
I have been so inspired by Ana. Never in my life have I believed I could build beautiful things in my own home by myself. But thanks to Ana’s easy to follow instructions and can-do attitude I asked for a saw for my birthday and I have started learning how to be a builder! Thanks so much for encouraging women (and men)!!
Ana, Found your blog a few weeks ago and fell in ABSOLUTE LOVE with SEVERAL of your plans!!! Am in transition at the moment, so haven’t gotten the chance to try any of them, but the love of my life and I will definitely be trying something as soon as we both get settled. You are very inspiring!!!
Ana White–you are the answer to our prayers!! lol We have just moved 1200 miles and the new house needs a few pieces of furniture on a budget. I would love to build a storage bench and the one pictured above is perfect. Please pick me for the new book.
Yes we did build something cool, a small bench, and oh yes I would love to win this beautiful book because boy do I need help! Thanks for this wonderful giveaway! Di@Cottage-wishes
just shared the giveaway on Pinterest—hopefully my 4000+ followers will catch on that this is a great opportunity to win a fabulous book!
Ana is the reason i slowly purchase tools for myself every blk friday. I have been chicken to attempt building but have done some crown around doors.
I have been wanting/needing my husband to build a wallunit to hold the tv as well as some closet space. This book woud be a great guide for him to get started. I am sure with a little guidance aka Ana’s THE HANDBUILT HOME he could build me the wall cabinet I am dreaming of. Thanks for the chance to win such a great give away!
Recently retired and now able to take on many DIY projects.
Ana’s book looks like a must have!
I would love to build some of the interesting pieces in the book 🙂

Don’t enter me, so someone else can win…..I just purchased this book…and love it!! I just wanted to say how great Ana is and thank her for writing the book and for her fantastic web site!!
I have a few of Ana’s plans on the to-do list for my husband and son. I’d love to win a copy of her new book, but I will be adding it to my wish list if I don’t. I’ll share the book/giveaway news on Pinterest, G+, FB & Twitter.
Ana White’s designs are definitely on my to do list!!!
This book looks terrific…..Would love to have a copy!
I designed a coffee table and entryway table, which my husband built for me. I would love to try building a book case like Ikea’s Expedit…seems like something I might be able to handle!
I love Ana’s plans! I haven’t built anything, but I’ve gotten my sweet husband on board and he’s built a bookcase and more for me 🙂

I love Ana White and have several of her plans on my pinterest. I can’t wait until I get to start on them. I would be amazing to meet her! I would love to have the book!
This is just the TREASURE I’ve been searching for as we try to furnish an additon to our home – including a grandkids bunk room which needs 6 beds! Anna – you’re an inspiration!
I love Ana White’s plans! They’ve inspired me to build my first thing ever, a vanity for our bathroom…I am halfway there and hopeful it will look great thanks to her easy to follow plans!
~ I would love a copy of this awesome new book! Hopefully then I would get over my fear of building furniture. I am longing to make a farmhouse bench to go w/ our table. ~
Okay….. I just pinned this great book giveaway!
I would so love to win this book! I have recently started building things for my home, and I love it, although I really don’t know what I am doing! This would be such a help. The other books I have looked at are way too complicated, assuming that the reader already knows the basics. (I think they were written by men, for men, lol)
We’ve built two things using Ana’s plans … a farmhouse table for our kitchen and a doll closet for my little girl. I love her site!
I have been trying to make time to drive 90 minutes to Ikea to buy shelves to makeover my hall closet. I think I would prefer to buy local and build them myself!
I somewhat grudgingly shared the giveaway on Pinterest. I love to share ideas there but in honesty I wish I could keep the giveaway for myself!
My husband and I built a coffee table together before we were even married! We have all the tools, but often lack the inspiration, so we’d love Ana’s book!
I love her website, I have made tiny step stools from her plans and my Dad built my sister and I each a table (out of planed down barn board off of my Grandpa’s old barn on some old land) from her plans. She is so inspirational because she just plain ol’ gives me courage to try things I never thought I could do.
I turned 45 this year and I am officially having a mid-life crisis! I want to start this new chapter letting my creativity flow. But let’s face it, I need some help! I would love to start with this inspiring book!
I would love to win this book. I haven’t built anything, except to put together some prefab storage cupboards and a file cabinet, but I understand Ana gives a lot of instruction in this book for beginners. I would love to replace some of my furniture that is no longer my style, with some of the awesome furniture I’ve seen on the web that are Ana’s designs.
I would love to have a copy of Ana’s book! She is such an inspiration, and empowers women to DIY!! I want to try to build the farmhouse table, however, I probably will start with one of her simpler designs…..I am a newbie to DIY, but love all the inspiration from both of you!
I am inspired by Ana’s cubby book shelf plan and am planning on building this myself. I have shared your site and am following on Pinterest. Thanks so much for this fantastic opportunity!!!
I would LOVE to win this book! While my husband is the hands-on one here, Im the one who sees an idea and then he executes the plan.
Most recently, I’ve been wanting a window seat/bench in our daughter’s room. We do everything ourselves as opposed to just going to the store and buying everything brand new so this book would be a valuable resource in our home library!
I LOVE Ana for all her inspiration. I haven’t personally built anything yet, but my dad used one of her plans to build our bed. Next on the list for ME to build…a new coffee table.
Ana, my father-in-law was just in town. I showed him the farmhouse bed and asked him to help me build one. Three hours later and it was ready for sanding and painting. I can’t wait to finish it and get it up to my bedroom. I’d love to have a copy of the book because I want to make more furniture!
Hello!!!! I have seen pictures of this beautiful book and have some plans in mind. I haven’t built furniture yet…I didn’t know where to start! But I do enjoy finding old pieces of furniture and bringing them back to life with a little (and sometimes a lot!) of elbow grease. Thanks for the giveaway!
I discovered Ana White while browsing how to DIY Pottery Barn tables. Wow oh Wow! She is awesome….I am making the console table this week – can’t wait to finish it. Since finding out about Ana White, I have seen her in numerous blog posts from other friends. Amazing!
Thanks Ana!
I love all of your projects – I am inspired to actually try and build something, even though I am still scared of power tools! I love the kitchen table that you have on your blog, it looks beautiful but also like something that I might actually be able to build.
I shared the giveaway on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/mary.s.madsen.3
I have not built anything yet but have been reading her website for a while. I would love to make her Farmhouse Table. I shared on Facebook.
Ana is an inspiration. I saw it first-hand at Haven too.
I love Ana’s plans and am gearing up to try some bookcases. Love her!!!
I love your designs so far the only one we have built is your child’s picnic table for our grandson.
What an awesome book! Just moved into a new home so the book would be perfect!!

Hi Ana!!! I would love to win a copy of your book. I’ve been inspired by all of your plans for quite some time. I love that you and your family are building homes for your mothers, that about the nicest thing you could do (well as long as they get along). I think I would love to build a bed at some point, or perhaps a coffee table. Keep up the amazing work!
Nikki Kelly @ the ambitious procrastinator
It’s open to Canadians, woohoo! I would love to win this book, perhaps I could learn to take my DIY skills (very elementary) to a whole new level…!
I love Ana’s site! I found it last year while my husband was deployed and shortly after he got home we built our own headboard using her plans. Since then I’ve really come to enjoy building things and now my hubby is talking about making me my own workshop in the backyard! Thanks for the chance to win-this is definitely on my wishlist!

I’ve never built anything like furniture but this book might just inspire me to try!
Glad I saw this post before we went out today! 🙂 I already had plans to stop at our local Barnes & Noble and after flipping through it (they had two copies LOL) I brought one home with me. Some of the projects are PERFECT for what I want to do. I inherited my grandparents’ 62 year-old house and want to redo it in simple, beach-cottage Florida style (since we’re in Florida LOL). There are a couple of projects in there that I can already see I can customize to work perfectly for what I want to do. Thank you for introducing me and my hubby to Ana White’s book. We’ll definitely be checking out her website.
Oh, and shared it on my Facebook page and pinned it. 🙂
I am a builder’s grand-daughter but I haven’t built anything since a woodworking class I took after high school in the summer – I would love to get started building a few simple things for our home – starting with Ana’s amazing flip top storage bench for our entry way! This book looks fantastic! Thanks for the giveaway opportunity!
haven’t built anything yet.. but I have designed a few pieces to build… and I have several wishlist DIY to builds… the most important is a square ottoman… just waiting to save the money for this project. am presently working on sanding down and then need to repaint a bistro set and antique childs chair that desperately needed some love!

I have never built anything!! But my dad was a builder all of his life and I would love to come up with a project that we could do together!
I have never made any furniture. But oh how I’ve wanted to when I’ve seen something but it was the wrong size, too expensive, etc. I’m inspired by Ana! Would love to have her book!
Ana is awesome! We’ve used a couple of her plans to make furniture and shelves.
I am in the Ana White fan club too! I have built several things from her blog.
Love her plans!! I’ve made the $10 shelves to display my son’s trophies and am going to tackle a storage/daybed for my daughters room. I shared the giveaway on my Pintrest.
We are attempting to build a long table to go behind our sectional couch so her book would come in handy for our first built piece of furniture!
I tweeted about the giveaway.
