One of the reasons I don’t need the sitting room to be a reading room, is I have a reading nook in our living room which rarely gets used. Not that I don’t read. I just read most before I go to sleep at night.
Isn’t that little DIY Show Off embroidered pillow so sweet? (more on where it came from coming soon)…
I like having my magazines organized, a source of inspiration for DIY and decorating. Favorites are Country Living, Traditional Home, This Old House, Do-It-Yourself, Cottages & Bungalows, Coastal Living (just for dreaming), 100 Decorating Ideas Under $100, Better Homes & Gardens, House Beautiful, Elle Decor.
I know right where they are, within easy reach and organized.
Since I read before I go to bed, I read mostly using my Nook Color (so Mr. DIY isn’t bothered by the light)…but I do like having physical magazines and decorating books, and if it’s a classic or collection, then the physical book in those cases too.

Oh, Roeshel, you are a girl after my own heart. I am a voracious reader and I have several going right now: a biography of George Washington by former Chief Justice John Marshall (lots of colonial history – I haven’t even gotten to Washington yet!); I just finished Jack London’s White Fang and Maeve Binchy’s Heart and Soul; I just started Sara Gruen’s Water for Elephants and MMM and I are reading the 5th in George R.R. Martin’s Song of Ice and Fire Series – it’s called A Dance with Dragons. I’m not much of a genre follower, as you can see. I think just in that bunch, there’s historic biography, science fantasy, a chatty novel, a classic, and a bestseller with a movie I’ve yet to see. I hate to see a movie without having read the book. Sometimes I see a movie, then find out there’s a book – and drats! I hate that. A movie can ruin a book by messing with your imagination. MMM gave me a Kindle for my birthday last July, and as of last night, I had finished 30 books. And that doesn’t count all the ones I read in print. Just love to read. I’ll be checking out some of your recommendations! Have a great Wednesday!
I love your reading areas, soooo adorable!!! I’m also ecstatic that someone else besides me saves magazines! I tend to save catalogs too =0)..I’m addicted to Mary kay Andrews books at the moment, before that I read The Help, loved it!! I’m a book person, I just love turning pages lol
My little-used front room is destined to become our “library”/reading room…I can’t wait! Nothing happens quickly around here, though 😉 I love to read, and I love both “real” books and my Kindle. I find that the more I read, though–the less of everything else I do!
I’ve been looking for a good book — going to go get The Bronze Horseman. Thanks!
Oops sorry I almost forgot — I L.O.V.E that pillow!
wow! it looks amazing!!! can i come live in your house!
I love your booknook. It looks so cozy and the books are so handy. I would love to have a spot like that.
I read constantly & where ever I am. I always carry a book with me though I don’t enjoy reading digital books as much as the real thing.
I read novels, magazines, gardening, self-help, religious, …whatever is interesting to me at the moment. Right now I’m reading ‘Strong Women Stay Young’ by Miriam E Nelson, Ph.D. and Colossians along with the Joy of Living Bible study guide for Colossians. I also subscribe to quite a few magazines that I read when I want easy fun reading.
My favorite spot to read is my own reading nook. A high back winged chair next to a tall lamp with a small table & foot stool. I enjoy reading books & on my netbook there. When I read with my husband we lay across from each other on our couches, occasionally sharing what we’re reading. It’s as much fun as reading alone for me.
Love your bookshelves and your framed botanicals! Looks like the perfect place to enjoy a good book!
XO Cindy
I really enjoy your blog but am having trouble with my feed….IIt is not available in my google reader anymore. I have to click through two to three links to get the full post.
Hi Donna. I know – it is so frustrating. I spoke (via email) with a web developer today. I’m to call first thing in the morning to schedule an appointment. Hopefully this will finally provide some help and directions to get it fixed. Thank you for your patience. I have been working on this for so long but the thing with free services is poor customer service. Please hang in there. I promise I’m trying to get it working correctly.
Such inspiring reading sanctuaries! I love that you have County Living magazine sitting there. My Step-Brothers girlfriend is the Senior Editor for a section of the Magazine. I’m always tempted to tell her about you. Your work is amazing and I can totally see you featured in there!

what a serene grown up book nook. I don’t have one, but I love the one we made for our son. (He loves it, too!) http://www.dejongdreamhouse.com/2012/07/ds-book-nook.html
