Remember when I set that crazy ambitious one week time frame for transforming the guest room? Ready for TONS of pictures? Don’t mind me, I just love to “show off”! 😉
Before – early years
Before it was my office/craft room. But it was always a mess. I moved that room upstairs so I can shut the door when needed and keep my project mess and work spread out. The guest bedroom needed to be on the same floor as the guest bathroom.
Here it is all emptied with baseboard trim removed and as you can tell, we tore out the nasty carpet when we moved in and moved on to other more important projects.
My mood board was designed to include things we already had including thrift store finds. A mood board is always a great way to start a room makeover and helps to visualize and form a design direction.
I painted the floor and painted an area rug look-alike (more details here)…
I painted the walls and installed baseboard trim as well as door trim around the bathroom door. .
Wall color is a mix of Dutch Boy “Lake Champlain” and “Aquamarine White”.
Trim = Dutch Boy Trim & Cabinet paint in ultra white.
The black chandelier + a little turquoise Rub ‘n Buff Turquoise by Bri…
And finally, the reward for all of that painting, I put the room together.
Thanks to Better Homes & Gardens, I warmed up the room for guests arriving this fall. I am participating in BHG’s “make your home guest ready for less” and was able to select $100 worth of BHG products at WalMart.com. I was pleasantly surprised with the beautiful products, great quality and big selection!

A pretty BHG peony decorative pillow is the perfect touch to a cozy bed full of bigger pillows.
Now the room is complete (minus a few finishing touches such as caulking the trim, filling trim nail holes and touching up paint), some DIY wall art and decor and curtains! Okay, that doesn’t sound near complete but it’s come a long way! What do you think so far? I’m loving how it all came together!

From the BHG collection, I'd pick a pair of the embroidered Leaf Garden pillows, which would be right at home in this room's color scheme, as a matter of fact.

I would get a few Ella Semi-Flushmount Indoor Ceiling Lights. Need to start changing out the hall lights.
The Better Homes and Gardens Square Decorative Pillow, Peony would be a perfect accent in our living room. We just got done painting the walls. The couches look a little empty and could use a throw pillow or two.

If I won I'd pick a few sets of the floral damask towels. Or maybe the jaquard (or both). We have these ugly, ratty dark green towels that my hubby loves for our ensuite. The 90's want their towels back so I need to get new ones. I love the taupe taped drum shades you chose . We could use a pair for our bedroom. 1 of our shades has developed some strange marks & a rusty stain??? As they are white & super inexpensive ( read not all that well contructed)I'm afraid to try any in depth cleaning on them.

Wow! I'd heard of painting subflooring before, but never with such amazing results. If you do end up putting flooring over it (seems like kind of a shame) it's going to be a big surprise for whoever ends up redoing those floors next.

I'm actually already in the process of redoing my bedroom. I would love the amboy curtain rod and some curtain ring clips. I love the color combination! Its perfect! The room is styled really pretty too. I really love the painted floor but I prefer area rugs over carpet. I think you should also add a nice luggage rack (replace the small wood char). I have one in my guest room and guests love it. And you could use a little more art on the walls. Overall its a beautiful room and you did an awesome job!
Thanks so much everyone! Kendra – the room isn't nearly completed. The walls are blank until I move furniture around and decide on final placement. I'd love to do a luggage rack too and have been searching for something and I also like to include a special gift basket for guests too – those things are coming as well as an area rug on top of the painted floor when stepping out of the bed. 😉

I'm surprised how well the colours work together; it's an interesting combination. I think the neutral bedspread keeps it from getting overwhelming.

I really like all of the grean patio furniture, but I could use a tv stand, or the fire pit, ohhh the gardens citrus blossums daybed bedding is nice too. Slipcovers! Candle holders! Like the "How To" books also. I'd love to win about 10 of these. HAHAHAHA!!!

I think this room makeover is INCREDIBLE! i absolutely adore it. it's funny actually because i have those exact same wingback chairs in the exact same color in my current guest room, which is also getting a bit of a makeover! great minds obviously think alike! although i can't paint the floor 🙁 so you definitely win big there!

I saw your room on The Shabby Chic Cottage today and my eyes almost fell out of my head! There, in all their former (in my hands) glory, were my in-laws’ wing chairs! Same color, same tufted backs, same legs same veloury fabric! They look fantastic in your color palette! When my hubby and I inherited them, the first thing I had to do was to get one of them recovered. That was 20 years ago and the downstairs cat has long since shredded the back. Point is, though, that they are very well made, vintage chairs and still have a classic charm. Thanks for sharing how great they would have looked if I had left well enough alone! Love that room! Great job!
