More Vintage Window Projects

Vintage windows catch my attention every time.  Our barn is full of the original windows from this old farmhouse yet when I spot them at a yardsale, I’m piling them in my car!  I’m addicted.  Remember when I did this post for vintage window ideas?  Well, here are some more ideas from creative readers., Whitney and Katie.  Click the links to visit the original post (send my love while you’re there!).

A window frame from Whitney at Our Sweet Story

Old vintage windows usually sell for $1 to $10 at yard sales, salvage shops, etc.  Back with burlap, add precious photos and hang.  Instant art!

I love this!  I’ve been taking a lot of photos in my family lately.  Must.do.this.  Thanks for the inspiration, Whitney.  It looks easy and it’s a beautiful photo display!
Katie from Not Just Decorating had this clever idea for a menu board…

$5 window from Habitat.

This is 40″ by 40″ and fills a huge empty wall in her kitchen.
Total Cost: $10!
Window: $5
Picture Hangers: $2.25
Scrapbook paper and hangers: $3
Katie added hooks to the bottom to hang her aprons. Love the details!
Isn’t that pretty?  I love that it’s functional and for $10 – a large statement on a big bare wall.  Great job, Katie!  I love the pretty paper and that it’s also an really quick, easy, inexpensive project!
Editing to add this awesome Halloween project from Pattie at on HollyHock Farm!

Thanks for sharing your creativity and inspiration ladies!

One (1) more day until the Country Living Magazine Fair in Columbus – are you going?  Be sure to stop at the Gorilla Glue booth to see projects featured by the DIY Club.  I’d love to meet you!

Faux Armoire…so French, so fake.

Sometimes I am so envious of your DIY skills!  I want to call you up and say, if you have some free time – get over here and teach me! Or do it for me.  That works too!  So, when I see an awesome DIY idea, great money saving project and amazing talent – I get excited!  Creative Decor by Brooke has something to show off today.  Brooke and her husband designed and built it from scratch!  See this pretty armoire?  Great place to hide a tv, right?

No! It is a Murphy bed!  Yes – look at it!  Who’d know?  There is no tutorial.  Sometimes that’s hard to do when you’re DIY’ing on the fly.  (Like that term?)  Sometimes there are unnecessary steps, mistakes and redos and just way too much complicated instructions to share.  I completely understand Brooke!  She does share that when purchasing the mechanism for the Murphy bed, it came with instructions on making it and the materials needed and she shares some helpful pictures.

When the bed is up in the cabinet, the front is supposed to look like an armoire. You can have cabinet doors made but that is expensive so she decided to make fake doors and drawers with just some trim and fake drawer fronts. She gave it two coats of black paint, added some knobs and pulls…

Gave it a little sanding…
2 coats of this:
Here it finally is in its place.  Faux armoire…to Murphy bed!

The mattress is on order but with that kind of hard work, it deserves a feature now!  They saved $1000 by building this themselves!  Woo hoo!  Isn’t it a great idea for a home office that also serves as a guest bedroom?  I.love.it!

Great job Brooke and hubster!  I am in awe of your DIY skills and the final result.  You two rock!  Now…about the guest reservations…

It's So Very….Beachy

I linked to
yesterday and while I was there, I was catching up on Cheri’s amazing DIY projects.

I love her beachy style. I know it’s the first day of Fall all and trust me, it’s in the 50s here at night so it definitely feels like fall here! So in an attempt to accept “good bye summer”, I thought it appropriate to share Cheri’s projects which inspire warmth and summer vacation.

Good bye summer!  9 more months and counting until we meet again.
Hello Fall!  Don’t get me wrong, I love fall scents, beautiful colored leaves, pumpkin patches, hot apple cider, boots and sweaters but I’ll miss the warm long days.  What about you?   Favorite time of year?  What do you love or love to hate about Autumn?
