I know…I know. I said I was taking the weekend off from blogging because I need to clean today. But I can’t stay away. I have a blog addiction. Actually, I am cleaning but I also rearrange & redecorate when I clean. Mr. DIY has already asked me what I did so far – hey cleaning + redesigning = time consuming. So anway, in the process of cleaning my dining room, I wanted to make the table a little more festive for our guests tomorrow.
Here. You’ll see what I mean. Our dining room (before) when we bought the house: And here it is now: Before: See that nasty carpet?
After:
Now:
Hardwood floors refinished. Here’s a peek of floor:
Tonight, I’m happy. I remember. We have finished a thing or two. 🙂
What we did:
- Took down old ceiling tiles
- Installed smooth drywall ceiling
- Ripped out old filthy carpet
- Sanded and poly’d hardwood floor
- New light fixture
- Painted
To do:
- Paint door to office
- Convince Mr. DIY that we need new furniture
Remember to check out the Before & After party!
WOW. That's an amazing transformation! You are SO talented!
It looks really beautiful! I love your built in cabinets! Great looking dining room:)
I'm so jealous of your built-ins! They're gorgeous! (the whole room is gorgeous, really)
Thanks you guys!
The built-ins are part of what sold me on this house (It definitely wasn't that carpet! haha). I just love the charm in an older home.

Great job!
That old light fixture will haunt my dreams, I'm so glad you replaced it!
Yes, I think you can stand back and say you've accomplished something – you've accomplished a LOT! That is such a gorgeous dining room now. It came a looooong way! laurie
Beautiful job with your DR! Looks great & my fave are those built-ins. Wow!
I also love the built-ins. The room looks GREAT! Aren't you always so happy you took before pics! I took pics of all the windows in the house before we had draperies made! What a change! Have a great Sunday!
What a beautiful room. It is GORGEOUS!
Wow, your dining room looks amazing!
This is now a beautiful and inviting room, the colors are just gorgeous! Enjoy it!

Love the wall color- and i love the orange (are they flowers?!) in your centerpiece.
The room is lovely. I really like how the cupboards stand out better. I do have one suggestion if that is ok. Is that a vent on the back wall? It could be painted the wall color and virtually disappear. Good job.
Thanks ladies! Your comments make me smile!
Gina – the orange in the arrangement on my table are branches/silk flowers from Michaels. They're more like some type of "buds". 🙂
Sandy – The vent on the back wall is painted the same as the wall color. I guess it's not looking like it in the picture because the vents are open, but if you look closely I think you can see on the border that it is the same as the wall. Not much to be done about it. It always throws me off on centering/etc.!
Thanks again everyone! 🙂

Beautiful! I love that corner cabinet!
I love the corner cabinet and the room! I just realized The DIY Show Off is a blog site and not a contest(LOL)!!! I also like the pumpkins you spray painted to look like mercury glass. I see I'll be on this blog many hours to come!
