Anthropologie inspired golden wishbone
I love Anthropologie and always find their catalog filled with inspiration and beautiful products. The Anthro Colossal Golden WishBone has been on my wish list.
Knocktoberfest hosted by our talented friend Lindsay from Makely Home this week was the perfect opportunity and motivation to create my own DIY version for less than $58 and in different sizes.
If you’re popping over from visiting the amazing Karianne at Thistlewood Farms, welcome! I’m so happy you’re here today and look forward to getting to know you if we’re not already acquainted. 🙂
What I used:
- Super Sculpey polymer clay
- Krylon 18 kt. Premium Gold Plate
I found purchased both of materials from Michaels Craft Store.
Tutorial:
The Anthro version is 13 x 6 inches. I tried to stay around that measurement by rolling two pieces of clay to about 13″ in length and “pinched” the end pieces of each together, then pressed each individual end with my thumb. Play with re-shaping. I also created two smaller versions by rolling a piece of clay to about 1/2 inch thickness. Fold in half. Pinch/thumb-press ends.
Move to a cookie sheet and perfect the wishbone shape a little more while the clay is still pliable.
I baked mine for about 35 minutes at 275 degrees. (Be sure to follow package instructions for your project.) Let them cool. Now the wishbones are firm and hold their shape.
Simple!
This is my first time working with clay so I have a feeling I can do a better job with more practice. I have a lot of clay and spray paint leftover to perfect my technique to create more wishbones.
They’re going to be a sweet holiday gift idea/package toppers too.
Next up on the Knocktoberfest tour is my fun & talented friend, Sandra from Sawdust Girl. Head over to see her creative knock off project that’ll knock your socks off!

Oh, Roeshel! This is SOOO cute! I’ve never worked with clay, either, but I think I may now. What a fun accessory!

How simple and cute! I love the idea to use smaller sizes on gifts : )
Well, how cool is that. I didn’t even know I needed a golden wishbone until I saw yours. 🙂 I love the idea of using them on gift tags.

Cool idea, Roeshel! I love these simple crafty projects.
Scupley! You smart, thrifty girl! 🙂
Ha. This makes me laugh. That was so clever to make this yourself, I love it how it turned out, too!
Love it! What an awesome idea to use the clay!
Its gorgeous! I have actually had clay in my craft room to try my own knock-off version of this wishbone for two months!! I’ve been lusting after it at Anthro for quite a while now too! You did a fab job!
This is such a fun idea! Yours turned out so great!
wow! great idea! Love this! Love that you made it our of clay. Genius!

That is so fabulous Roeshel!! What an awesome knock-off! 🙂
I love that there are products to make items of all shapes, very cute! And perfect for this time of year.
I love this and the savings from an Anthro one is incredible. I’ve never worked w/ clay either, but this project would be definitely worth testing it out for.
This is so clever!! I’ve never worked with clay either…but you’ve convinced me to give it a go!! 🙂 And I have to say…your cookie sheet is the cleanest one I have ever seen…weird observation, but, what’s your secret? 🙂
Thanks, Kristi! and lol! It’s a newer cookie sheet. It’s only been used twice 😉 My husband confiscated the old ones (which did look pretty bad) for gardening trays earlier this year.
This is so cool! My girls just pulled apart a real one. I always save them after a chicken dinner. You are good!!
Your wishbone looks really good and it looks like it would be fun to make too!

Love it, such a clever idea!! Also, love your curtain fabric, may I ask where it’s from?
Thanks, Cathy! The fabric is Waverly Santa Maria dessert flower. Hope that helps! 🙂
Ooh thank you!! That’s two projects for the weekend!!!
Hi Roeshel, came over to your site from Knockoff Decor and then spent 45 minutes there. You have really done some amazing work. Loved the fireplace surround/ shelving. I’ m wondering if something like this would make a good entry table (not intrude into the room too far for those of us with tiny foyers.) Also, on your back porch, is that a blue painted TIRE used as a planter???? How clever is that. Try as I might this I pad would not bring up the page but it sure looked like a tire to me! Also loved that blue lamp with matching shade and wondered if you had painted them to match.
Thanks, Judy! SO glad your found your way here. I’m not sure which fireplace surround/shelving that you’re referring to…my pallet shelves and fireplace surround? It’ is very narrow and a great option for an entryway. Or…you may have seen something I featured. Yes! That’s a tire. I wonder why it wasn’t coming up. I hope I don’t have a broken link somewhere. :/ Here it is in case that helps: https://diyshowoff.com/2013/07/02/diy-tire-planter-tutorial/
The lamps are not painted. They’re glass with a matching shade. I ordered them from a Joss & Main sale (so they’re not available that way now) but they’re “Angelo Home”.
Thanks so much for stopping by! It’s so nice to “e-meet” you! 🙂
Roeshel thanks much for the link to the tire planters. It came up just fine. I have certainly never seen anything like them around here although have certainly seen many ugly old tires LOL. Can’t wait for next May to try this project and put some flowers in it.
