I know it’s not even Halloween yet but I have had Christmas decorating on my mind early this year for many reasons. One of those reasons: I’m so excited to be participating in the 2nd annual Michaels Dream Tree Challenge!
Last week, I took a moment to run into Michaels to browse the Christmas decor and craft selection for the challenge. First, there is no such thing as just running into Michaels. Is there? I’m always there way longer than intended – a DIY/crafter’s dream come true! Who would have thought the aisles would be stocked for the holidays so early? It seemed they were still working on it but there were so many glittery, beautiful, fun themes that it’s difficult to know where to start.
A more natural vibe with burlap? Love the pinecone garlands
and how sweet is the printed burlap ribbon?
I’d say there’s something for everyone!
Christmas decorating is one of my favorite things about winter. I love it! Now, I’m not a fan of taking it all down, organizing it and putting it all away but when the days are short and cold, I can ignore my dislike for the winter season by getting my home all warm and festive.
And festive it is. I decorate the dining room, living room, family room and sitting room. My most favorite holiday decoration: our Christmas tree! Make that plural. Do you decorate more than one tree?
My tree decorating tradition has changed since my girls are no longer little and at home but I still love playing Christmas music even if it’s more of an event for one. And when it’s all done: hot cocoa, only tree lights glowing in the room and reflecting on the year’s blessings. Do you have a tree-trimming tradition?
Six Tips for Decorating a Christmas Tree
If you could decorate your tree any way with any theme, what would you choose? Come back November 1st to see my choice…it may be early but I’m going to be ready for that holiday home tour. 😉
*Michaels provided me with a 7 ft lighted tree and gift card to participate in the Michaels Dream Tree Challenge. As always, the post above is in my own words and my own opinion. I’ll be sharing my decorated tree and a DIY ornament tutorial in the near future.
- Michaels has a HUGE selection of pre-lit artificial trees.
- Did you know each tree purchased at Michaels comes with a 5 year tree warranty and a 2 year warranty on the lights? Now you do!
- Heads up: On November 3 through November 9, Michaels is hosting a special tree event.

Last Christmas I switched from an all red and white tree with red & green traditional decor to white, aqua, silver and lime green and I love it! I went a little nutty after Christmas adding to my stash and tons of it was from Michaels! Love it!
After Christmas is the best time to buy for the following year! Can’t wait to see your tree this year, Sunday! 😉
Pretty, pretty… PRETTY! Love them all. So fun to decorate for more than one “mood” 🙂
Thanks, Shannon! Yep, that pretty much sums up my entire house…more than one mood. lol! xoxo
I was just in Michaels and ours does not carry the printed burlap ribbon. I may have to try the other one near by. Can not wait to see your tree. I am wanting to go more neutral this year but I have sooo many decorations with the traditional colors that I think I am just going to have to stick with them at least for now.
I love traditional too, Pamela. I found the printed burlap on a hanging display in the floral department (not in the Christmas or ribbon aisles). Hope that helps. I’ll be using some old along with new this year. 😉
Fantastic! I can’t wait to see! I’m heading there today for a couple of things…or ten! Lol! You are right! We can never just go for one thing! I’ll be sure to check out the country ornaments! Hopefully I’ll find Scotland! : )
I LOVE decorating for Christmas it’s my favorite time of year! I put three trees up in my house I am tempted to add a 4th one! I’m changing up the themes of my trees this year, top secret until they are done and photographed 😉 I started making new tree decorations in August and I highly doubt I will wait until the day after Thanksgiving to get mine up this year!! I love your trees they all look fantastic!
Ooooo! I can’t wait, Dria! I love Christmas too! 🙂
Every year I decorate at least 2 trees for the house, and start thinking about colours and themes in October. I’m excited to see what you decide to go with! No traditions here, although a hot cocoa to sit back and admire my handiwork sounds divine!
So many possibilities and so much fun! Thanks Roeshel for the festive inspiration and Happy Holidays!
just how do you get these creative thoughts? I am in love with your wonderful creations…why dont you sell them? I am sure everybody will love it.
I can’t wait to see your tree. Love decorating for Christmas.
I love Christmas decorating, and in the past have put some sort of tree in every room (began year my home was on holiday house tour). I better start planning now, and Michael’s is near my office!
LOVE that burlap and the trees are gorgeous!
I love having more than one tree! A few years ago I started getting a tree that was “Mommy’s”. I put it in the dining room where the fireplace is. I decorate and no one else even cares about it. They all decorate the one in the living room with the ornaments that are cute but don’t necessarily go together. I love that tree too. It sentimental and cute. I also put up trees in my girls rooms. There’s nothing better than getting ready for Christmas!
Have fun!

Love Michael’s and now you have me thinking about Christmas 🙂
Oh my goodness Roeshel! Yes I am so excited about decorating for Christmas too. We decorate five trees in our home and I love doing each in a different theme. Let the Christmas spirit begin!
i am excited about this post because i have grown to strongly dislike doing the tree over the years since my children were small, especially stringing the lights. but my mother in law does a HUGE amazing tree with many vintage handmade ornaments and i love it. she spends days decorating it and it is the prize of the neighborhood. she also had great nativity scenes, almost life-sized children who hold candles and have motorized movements. at age 86 she suddenly passed away last month. of course we are undone by her death. to cheer me up my husband told me he would bring home all her Christmas boxes the first week in nov and get to decorating since i will be having surgery the 20th and laid up for 8 weeks. and we can get a new, tall pre-lit tree! i’ll be back on the 1st to get inspired…and i want to renew my enthusiasm for doing the tree from now on!
Wishing you the best Suzi! Your family is in my thoughts and prayers.
So pretty…loving that printed burlap ribbon!! I think your dining room tree is my fave…but the big one is gorgeous, too! I keep saying I’m going to switch to having three “skinny” trees grouped together instead of my big one…still thinking on it! 🙂
That pretty much describes my tradition too! And like you, love putting it up..hate taking it down.
Your trees are all so pretty…thanks for the inspiration!
I love them all! So pretty 🙂
I would love to know about those curtains or fabric in the background of the first tree photo. Gorgeous! Trees are too. 🙂 Thx.
Hi Julie! The fabric is Waverly Santa Maria Desert Flower. Hope that helps! 🙂
