Thanksgiving Highlights and the DIY Fall Festival

Thanksgiving is one week from today. Time flies.  We won’t mention the countdown to the next holiday.  It makes me panic.  But, in honor of Thanksgiving next week…here are some Thanksgiving highlights from last week’s DIY Fall Festival.
First, there were some delicious looking, mouth watering dessert recipes and if you’re looking for a great idea, here is the link:  Fall Desserts.

My favorite Fall Mantel at Finding Home Online.  Harvest. Perfect.
Beautiful.  My inspiration for next year when I have a mantel in the dining room!
Another stunning Thanksgiving table…

And a Thanksgiving chalkboard from Finding Home Online.  I love the Fall quote and what a beautiful chalkboard and frame.  (Dear Santa…)

Let’s see your DIY fall ideas! Show off!

Rules:
  • Create a blog post about an Autumn/Fall project that you’ve done
  • Add your project title to Linky (example: House # Pumpkins) by clicking the “YOUR NEXT” prompt.
  • Type in the permalink address, not your basic blog address. A permalink is the address that links directly to your specific post. (example: http://thediyshowoff.blogspot.com/2009/08/house-number-pumpkins)
  • Please use the DIY button (code provided on the side bar) or link to this post to share the party with your readers. The DIY Show Off practices courteous blog etiquette.  If you’re linking up to the parties at the DIY Show Off, please share a link in your post back to the party so your readers can see all of the great DIY ideas linked.  It’s not fair when almost everyone does it correctly (sharing the entire party including all links) and a few don’t share.  I haven’t been very strict with the rules but I do notice when a blogg
er links up and readers head over to see your awesome-ness and it’s one-sided.  Please party nice.  If you’re not familiar with linky parties, please feel free to ask for help at thediyshowoff@gmail.com.  Thank you!  🙂
  • If you notice your link has disappeared, please make the corrections by follow ing the steps above to re-link.
  • Although a tutorial is helpful, it’s not required. Anything DIY – autumn related is permitted.
  • Enjoy and be inspired!
  • It may take a moment for your link to show. Refresh page before linking a duplicate post.

Hammers and High Heels

Hammers and High Heels – That has to be one of my favorite names for a blog.  Cute, isn’t it?  Meet Carla. When I read her bio, it sounded a little familiar.  We have a lot in common. Like me?  You’ll like her too!  She’s a fairly new blogger with a 1924 Dutch Colonial fixer upper.  Do you know what that means?!  Yes!  D-I-Y!!!  + older home + beautiful style = love.  Click the links to visit the full posts and her blog full of DIY projects, before/after makeovers and an entire page devoted to DIY tutorials. Ready, all ready?

Here are some before and after photos from her home tour (click the link to see ALL photos and details about the transformation).
This is her living room now.  It’s beautiful. I love the slate gray walls, comfy furniture and  creamy white trim and accents (love that trunk!).  I want to be here to relax and unwind, snuggle and watch a movie or sit and catch up with a friend…

This was the living room before:

This was the bathroom before.
This is the bathroom now.  Love the tile!
Dining room before:

Dining room now.  Don’t you love those numbered slipcovers?  It does not look like the same room!

Kitchen before:

Kitchen now.  I love the open shelving and white cabinets.
You have to pop over to see her kitchen nook too (so much character in this house).  Here is the stove in another nook:
That nook now looks amazing!
The landing at the top of the stairs before was dark and boring.
Now it’s bright and looks so much bigger!
The guest room before:
And Carla, lucky, lucky girl had a little help from Kevin and Layla from The Lettered Cottage and this is her guest room now (all ready for a blog friend or two, right?  haha)…
Beautiful home!  Thanks so much to Carla for sharing her before and after makeovers!  Doesn’t that just make you want to dive in and DIY?  Me too!
I was so tempted to start sharing her tutorials and other delicious DIY projects too but then you wouldn’t have any reason to visit her.  So…head on over to Hammers and High Heels to see MORE clever, cute and creative projects!

Holiday Entertaining and $100 CSN Giveaway

Holidays are the time of year for making our home look festive for entertaining, hosting dinners and get-togethers for gift exchanges and celebrating.  Do you host holiday dinner parties for family and friends?  Where do you seat everyone?  Do you utilize drop leaf tables, card tables, the kitchen island, the livingroom? Do you serve buffet or sit-down style?
We host dinner buffet style when we entertain because our family consists of 25+ guests. Our table normally seats 8 but we can squeeze in 10.  Sometimes teens will eat in the family room together (which I’m sure they prefer), a couple will take the kitchen bar stools or guests will take turns or carry a  plate to the living room.  It always seems to work out – thankfully!

What’s your entertaining strategy?

How would you like a $100 CSN gift code to prepare for the holidays?  No?  Okay…I’ll take it.  🙂  Just kidding!  I’m going to give 1 lucky DIY Show Off reader the chance to win.  I love my blog buddies – you’re always so supportive and encouraging.  I love reading your comments, seeing your links in my parties and showing off your DIY projects so this giveaway is my ‘thank you’ for being the best! ($100 gift code does not cover shipping costs but can be spent on ANY product from ANY of the 200+ CSN stores.)

How to enter:

One (1) separate entry for each of the following (leave an individual comment for each):

Entry #1 Just leave a comment.  If you want, tell me your favorite thing about the holidays.
Entry #2 Be a follower or subscribe.  Leave a comment telling me you do.
Entry #3 Share this giveaway with your friends and readers via blog, Facebook, Twitter, etc.  Comment how you spread the word.
Entry #4 Make a new friend:  Visit the person who commented before you and if they have a blog, what was their latest post about? Tell them Roeshel says “hi”!
Bonus Entry (#5) – If you did Entry #4 AND you saw this giveaway shared, come back and comment THAT blog name.  Or if you were directed to the giveaway from someone announcing it, share who/where that was. You both will be added to the entries at the end of the giveaway for another chance to win.

Remember to leave me your email address if I can’t contact you via your blog.  Open to US residents only.  Giveaway starts now and ends Tuesday, November 22nd at midnight EST.  Winner will be announced shortly thereafter!

Remember to leave a comment for each entry.  Comments are numbered and putting 5 entries in one comment will only count for one (1) entry. I will delete duplicate comments.  Because of spam comments, I approve each so it may take me a few minutes/etc. to approve your comment before it is seen.

Pop back over to see if anyone had something to say about visiting your blog during the giveaway – you might have more entries! 🙂

Good luck!
