Mismatched Baskets to Matching Spring Collection

Have a bunch of mismatched baskets sitting around? Why not gather them up and create a matching collection just in time for spring organizing or Easter decorating?

mismatched to cute collection - basket DIY at diyshowoff.com

Materials:

  • baskets (thrift stores or your own stash)
  • spray paint
  • FrogTape® Delicate Surface

I first cleaned up my baskets since they were a bit dusty. Then sprayed each basket with a different color of spray paint around the middle/outside and let dry.

After 24 hours, I used FrogTape® Delicate Surface to create (and protect) a stripe around each basket.

Use a thumbnail or credit card to activate the patented PaintBlock® Technology, giving the edges of the tape a good seal the best you can with the woven basket texture.

Next I sprayed each basket inside and out with white spray paint.

You can remove the tape while paint is wet but I forgot and removed it about four days later without any problem.

Now instead of 3 junky baskets, I have a set of 3 cute matching baskets all ready for the Easter Bunny…

Spring Mantel Decorating

I don’t know about you but I’m so over winter and ready for spring, flowers, warmer weather and longer days. And to help welcome spring into our home, I set about decorating the mantel to spring ahead into the next much anticipated season – spring!

Looking for a big backdrop for seasonal decor? Simply wrap a large canvas with wrapping paper or fabric. Leave it as is, attach glittery garland or a pretty wreath and you’re good to go (and super easy to swap out for every season without having to store art work, not to mention lots of options for the perfect size and coordinating colors).

A mix of twigs from the yard and faux branches in a vase add a touch of spring and balance…

The tulips and daffodils aren’t poking up through the ground yet, but a fresh bouquet of spring flowers indoors will chase away the winter blahs.

It’s a Spring Thing Favorites

As I look out the window at the snow flurries (yet again!), I’ve decided to look for spring elsewhere…

SpringThing feature

Over the past month, four blog friends (me included) hosted “It’s a Spring Thing” link party, sharing our own spring DIY projects:

  1. Emily: driftwood & clay candlesticks at Merry Pad
  2. Roeshel: indoor spring fairy garden at DIY Show Off
  3. Lana: infant’s magnetic playhouse at Making a House a Home
  4. Kim: bar makeover at Design Thoughts blog

and rather than look at the cold and snow outside, I diverted my eyes to the “It’s a Spring Thing” party and compiled a list of inspiring favorites. Take a look:

Paper Mache Easter Egg craft

A day with freezing rain isn’t my ideal spring day, but it is still officially winter. Spring. In like a lion, right? ::groan::

Fortunately, this dip-dyed {painted} paper mache Easter egg craft is a cheerful easy DIY project which aided in averting my eye from the cold, gloom and sleet outside.

I don’t think you really need a tutorial. But, since writing up a “how to” is what I love to do, I’m going to tell you what I did anyway. 😉

Materials:

  • Paper mache eggs
  • FrogTape
  • DecoArt Americana acrylic craft paints

Wrap FrogTape around the paper mache egg to create a faux dipped line. Using my fingernail, I rubbed the edge of the tape to activate the Paint Block Technology to prevent paint from seeping underneath the tape, to create a crisp clean line.

Then I simply painted the bottom of my paper mache eggs using different spring-inspired colors:

Pull away/remove FrogTape while paint is still wet. It’s a little tricky! After I was done, I thought: “I should have used a set of tongs or something to get a better grip on my egg.” #hindsight

Allow paint to dry. (I just set mine on the cellophane paper mache egg packaging.)

Decorate!

Spring Decorating

Five days until spring officially arrives but who’s counting? This girl! I’ve been ready since January. Not to mention, Easter Sunday is only a little over 2 weeks away too and we’re hosting. So, time to start decorating, starting with the dining room and a little Easter vignette…

I dusted off my DIY Pottery Barn inspired Happy Easter eggs from two years ago for the occasion and put together a centerpiece…

Okay. It’s my birthday today, so let’s have a party! 🙂 It’s my turn to host the Countdown to Spring party. Last on the list, but that means it’s nearly spring!
