Tea Cup Candle Sconce Bird Feeder Tutorial

Like to attract bird’s to the backyard? Me too. Well…away from the patio where I enjoy sipping tea and starting my day with devotions.

The next time you’re at the thrift store, pick up an old candle sconce, tea cup and saucer to create a cute little bird feeder.

What I used:

  • candle sconce
  • tea cup & saucer
  • Rust-Oleum Painter’s Touch Ultra Cover x2 (satin aqua)
  • sanding block
  • damp rag
  • E600 glue
  • clamp tape
What I did:

Lightly sand and clean candle sconce. Apply light even coats of spray paint and let dry.
Using glue, attach saucer and tea cup to candle sconce (saucer first then tea cup after the saucer has dried).
This is the first time I’ve used clamp tape. LOVE it! Worked really well to keep the pieces together while glue dried.
Let dry according to glue package instructions.

Hang, fill with bird seed and enjoy!
Pretty outdoor decor too. DIY tea cup candle sconce bird feeder tutorial @diyshowoff

I haven’t noticed if the birds are enjoying it yet. The food disappeared but it may just happen to be feeding the squirrels. lol  DIY tea cup candle sconce bird feeder tutorial @diyshowoff

House Makeover Part One: Exterior Before

House Makeover Part One: Ever wonder where I get my love of DIY and decorating? It’s from my mom! Like the saying goes, ‘the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree’ and I am SO SUPER excited that my mom and her husband (who is extra super handy with tools, the type of guy who can do just about everything home improvement related, by the way) are rescuing this old home. The property is BEAUTIFUL. The home? Uh…not so much in it’s current condition. I am just itching to get in there and get started!

House Makeover Before - Exterior

There’s an entire house in there somewhere!

I’ll journal some before and after and some tutorials along the way. Love DIY? Follow along and watch the transformation, the huge project they’re about to undertake. I look around and I see POTENTIAL! I LOVE LOVE LOVE old fixer uppers! It’s going to be better than it ever was!

In an effort to get the ‘before’ pictures organized and all in one place, let’s take a tour. Today I’m sharing Part 1, the home’s exterior. Overgrown, hidden. There’s a treasure in there somewhere!

Mailbox DIY Vinyl Decals

This poor mailbox had seen better days…don’t you think?

Time for a new one…

One of the perks of owning a vinyl cutter (I have a Silhouette Cameo) is the convenience of making my own vinyl labels/stickers/decals.

Mailbox Upgrade

Open up the Silhouette Studio Designer Edition software. Click the text button on the left, choose font and type house numbers and a monogram design. Size to fit flat mailbox surface.

Click the “cut” button on the navigation bar. Choose “vinyl” and adjust blade settings. Insert vinyl color side up into the machine and click “cut”.

Remove vinyl from machine and weed away excess vinyl.

Apply a piece of transfer paper and cut apart individual designs. I have three. Numbers for the front of the mailbox, a monogram design and numbers for the side.

Rub with a credit/gift card to ‘transfer’ the vinyl decals from wax paper to transfer paper.

Peel away transfer paper (vinyl decals should be stuck to tacky transfer paper).

Place onto clean, dry, flat surface of mailbox.

Rustic Glam Woodland Centerpiece and a Mint Mocha Smoothie

My favorite time of the year is summer and I love spending my days outdoors when I don’t have to bundle up, the sun shining warm on my face, taking a few moments from the chaos on the patio swing to close my eyes while I ponder the day’s plans.

My woodland centerpiece is inspired by summer, talking walks in the woods. A good hike, re-connecting. Mood boosting!

Materials: moss runner, large wood slice, fresh flowers, feathers, white candles, twine, wooden spoons and gold spray painted toy animals.

a blend of natural elements with a little glam

Create a woodland themed vignette. Nature inspired. Peaceful and serene.

It’s a sweet centerpiece for the bistro table under our grape arbor gazebo, all set for some quiet time, counting blessings, healthy meditation and brainstorming up my next big DIY project. Remember to take a few quiet minutes for the sake of your health, to breathe, to think (or not think) and to just rest before tackling the rest of the day.

A shaded haven for catching up with my daughter. We sat there the other day, sipping mocha mint smoothies, talking and dreaming big.

Do you take the time to sit and soak up the good things? What inspires you to live a healthier lifestyle?

Tutorial:

1. While length of ribbon is still attached to spool, create a loop (for hanging) and knot.  DIY birdie garland tutorial at diyshowoff.com

2. Remove caps off of all birdies (mine simply popped off).

3. Using the package (or ruler) determine distance between each birdie (starting from the knotted loop).

Refresh Outdoor Furniture

Give old wicker furniture a refresh with spray paint. Warmer temps mean outdoor living around here, how about at your home? Our outdoor wicker furniture is normally protected by a covered patio but after a couple of years, some of the paint is peel-y and it was looking a little dingy…

wicker furniture refresh at diyshowoff.com

What I did:

  • remove chipped paint and dirt
  • wash (pressure washer works nicely!) and dry
  • a couple of light coats of Rust-Oleum Universal (gloss white)

You’d never know these yard-sale mismatched pieces needed a little DIY TLC…

You’re welcome to join us for some peace and picnic time!
