I can’t bring myself to blog about DIY today. I hope you can understand. Thank you so much for all of your thoughts, prayers, advice and love and support! It means the world to me and is so reassuring!
Niski’s condition declined overnight. As hard as it is, I kept her confined to a small area with just her bed and her newspaper. She is paper trained. This morning I peeked in on her and she had made her way to the paper but something didn’t look quite right. Her back legs are paralyzed. So I used a scarf as a sling to lift her back end, but she is used to potty “privacy” and of course she was just excited to see me so she wouldn’t go. I put her back in her bed and went to make a cup of tea. I came back to a mess. Poor thing. I just got her cleaned up. I had hoped the meds would have made her improve but maybe it takes a day or two. ?
This is her this morning. She seems like herself. It’s heartbreaking. She’s panting because she was excited – thinking I was going to pick her up and let her out. 🙁
I will be calling the vet here shortly when they open. I appreciate your continued prayers and hope to have good news to report soon.
I know you understand that blogging about DIY is the last thing on my mind right now and hope you don’t mind me talking about my Niski. If you’d like to be a guest blogger and show off your house tour, etc. just send me an email including the “html code” from your post and I will share it. I am on the computer. I work from home and I’m researching every possible option. Thanks again for your compassion, understanding, reassuring words, thoughts and prayers! Your comments bring me so much comfort.
🙁 Hang in there! She is so cute 😉
Looks like she's in good spirits — keep us posted!!
Poor thing! Prayers are on their way.
Dear Roeshel,
I missed your previous post about your sweet Niski. If there is anything I can do, please let me know.
Our boxer boy Kodak is having problems with his back legs as well and he is on Metacam which has helped tremendously. We had to rush him to the hospital in the middle of the night a couple of weeks ago.
We took him to our vet this week for a checkup and he indicated it could be a neurological spinal thing and that surgery could correct it but for now to keep him on the Metacam is helping.
He also said to give him Omega 3 fish oil.
I truly know what you're going through and the thoughts you can't shake.
If you need a shoulder, please email me.
I am sending you a big ((HUG)) and prayers for your sweet girl.
Love,
Marsha
I am so sorry. I've been where you are with a pet and know how painful it is. Thoughts for a full recovery.
I'm so sorry! That has to be so hard. I can't imagine going through that with my pups. They become like part of the family.
Oh, I am so sorry to hear about Niski, I have a dog myself so I can only imagine how hard that is. I hope Niski feels better soon!
Hoping your furbaby will be well soon! Been there, too, so understand completely.
I am so sorry that Niski isn't improving. My thoughts are with you guys. Big hugs to your little Niski, I hope you get good news today.
It's never easy to see anyone we love suffering. I lost my kitty Misty over the weekend. She was ill, but lived a wonderful 23 years!
Please update us when you can!
DIY can and should wait…your little Niski needs you!
awww poor little girl! Hope for a full and fast recovery!
hugs! Kim @ http://frostmeblog.blogspot.com

hang in there!
Blogging and creative endeavors are great ways to share, inspire, and gain fresh perspective. (And, in some cases, bring in an income!) BUT, we do have families, loved ones, friends, and pets, who are so much more important. I am sorry to hear of what you are experiencing with your sweet pup. I dread the day when my own dog begins to show signs of aging or illness. Take your time in making a return to the online community…we'll still be here when you come back! In the mean time, shower that sweet Niski of yours with lots of TLC!
This breaks my heart – poor Niski, she is so adorable, I just want to hug and kiss her. I am so hoping she will get well – the power of prayer, it can do wonders!
Love to all of you – dt
Oh Roeshel, I am so so sorry. I know that these type of problems are common in the long dogs like Niski and bassets. I hope that you can find something that will heal your beloved pup.
My husband Marc's aunt and uncle also has a dachshund and she was very ill this spring, they thought that they were going to have to make the tough decision- but Emma really bounced back and is back to normal. So it is possible! We will just have to pray.
And I feel a small part of your pain. Baxter (Fat Dog) has been having dental problems and we paid a $822 vet bill yesterday. Not good.
Please take care, Katie
Oh Roeshel I am so sorry to read this about your sweet girl. In my house, pets are family (and in my case my kids) so my heart goes out to you. Hoping for the best for Niski
And no worries about not posting.. please do not apoligize!
My eyes are welling up just reading your post — I'm keeping you and Niski in your prayers. Thanks for keeping us all updated on your little girl.
My heart and my prayers are with you!
At least she is "smiling"! My sister has a doxie and I am always afraid for her back. Hoping for peace and comfort for you both.
I've been a lurker for a while but I'm coming out to say don't worry one second about deviating from DIY. Your first and only priority right now should be Niski.
Have you considered acupuncture for Niski? Many conventional vets are not supportive of the oriental medicine practices but depending on the severity of Niski's problem, acupuncture could be very beneficial. It certainly won't worsen her condition. If she were my dog, I'd get her to a vet who practices acupuncture ASAP.
Please keep us posted.
Hugs and prayers:) We are going through the same with our beloved cat Fluffy. She is just skin and bones right now (she has feline leukemia)and hardly eating. I think we will have to make a decision soon to put her to sleep:(

It's so hard when our fur babies are sick. I have a min doxie (wire haired) that has the same coloring. Shadow is 17 and most of the time he acts like a 2 year old. Lately he has been having issues with falling over and I'm really scared for him. I'll keep your little one in my prayers.
What a sweetie….ols don't worry abt DIY if ppl don't understand then you don't really want them to be in your life…you'll never regret posting on your blog..you will regret not spending time w/ your baby…we'll be here
Oh this just brought tears. You guys were in my thoughts and prayers all night last night. The thoughts and prayers continue for you and your sweet baby!!
I'm a lurker but wanted to tell you I've been praying for Niksi. She has such a sweet face. Praying for strength for you, too. All the best.
May God bless you and your sweet baby. We all understand that there are more important things than bloggin about projects. What we are is a communtiy of support and friendship! This is when blogging really shows its strength. We are here for you!!!!
Two months ago we were in a similar spot with our beloved pug of over 14 years. She'd been unable to walk for a year and yet she was so great with us taking her out and holding her up to potty. In the last 3 days of her life, her kidneys failed and we were required to euthanize her. I felt blessed to have her that year beyond her inability to walk at all. But, she was an older dog. It's just HEARTBREAKING to read about a younger dog going through this. My PRAYERS are with you!
Roeshel, don't worry about blogging about Niski. Blogging is not just about the fun stuff, but the trials of everyday life and the not so fun stuff too. Hang in there and just give it a break for a bit if you need to. We'll be here when you get back 😉
I will pray for Niski and your family! The power of prayer is amazing and because of your blog so many more prayers are being lifted up for your sweet little girl.
IF, you feel the need, but we all understand if you don't….
Here is a link for a table I built for our house. It started as old boards and a tree trunk.

This totally breaks my heart. She has such a sweet little face. I am sending prayers her way right this very minute. I'm so sorry for what you and she are going through right now. I pray for a good report very soon. please continue to keep us updated and don't worry about anything else at the moment. This is what is great about blogging… you have a huge community praying for you and your Niski right now!
I just saw a comment from your last blog post where someone offered to donate money to surgery if needed. I'd be glad to help, too! If it came to that, maybe you could do a craft/diy fundraiser.
Roeschel, I am so sorry! Honestly take as long as you want. Everyone will understand. Having an ill pet is so difficult, I feel your pain. I hope your little one gets on the road to recovery, and I will be keeping you guys in our thoughts.
Oh dear, what a rough few days you've had. I'm praying for Niski.
Honey, you write about any darn thing you please! Please don't worry about your fans – only yourself and precious Niski. She is no doubt your soul mate and needs every last bit of your attention. My prayers go out to you and your pup.
xoxo,
Lindsay
Tell'er All About It
Roeshel, Thaought and prayers are with you and Niski. Please let me know if there is anything I can do. Thinking about you guys ~ Stephanie Lynn {hugs}
prayers…i've been there. Praying she doesn't suffer and gets better 🙂
Prayers and healthy doggie thoughts headed your way 🙂
Hugs to you and Niski. I understand how difficult this is for you. Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers.
We went through this in January with our mini double dapple. She was treated with a cold lazer and water theapy. Ask your vet about the lazer treatment. Ours was 7 treatments for $130.
For water threapy fill your tub till Niski begins to float. Move the hind legs as if she is swimming. you may have to get in the tub with her. We did this 3 times a day for 15 min each time. over time you begin to feel them resisting you.
Blessings & Good Luck
I'm still thinking of little Niski. What a precious face! Give it a little time. A person who had this would not bounce back in a day. I'm praying that she'll be good as new soon.
I don't think you need to apologize or worry about anyone being upset at the lack of some DIY posts. I imagine we're all just thinking happy thoughts for you right now. Hang in there!
Our pets are our family too. I hope Niski makes a speedy recovery and gives you years more joy and happiness!
Please give Niski a big old kiss for me. Those meds will take some time to work their magic, and indeed it may get worse before better. It is heartbreaking to watch our babies suffer, I totally understand your pain and frustration. I have my fingers, toes, eyes, arms, legs, etc crossed that he will make a speedy recovery. Meanwhile, deep breath, one moment at a time and cherish each and every one of them!
Niski is in my prayers & so are you. Our pets are part of our family and when they hurt we hurt. Hang in there.
Hang in there. She knows you love her, and that can work miracles in itself.
And Girl, poo the DIY. You know we're all here checking on the pup right now.
I will be praying for your Niski. We had a dachund with back problems and she had to be on meds confined to a kennel for a while but she did get over it. She lived to be about 15 years old and died from kidney problems. I hope everything works out for Niski.
Reading your post makes me cry all over again remembering losing my furry four legged baby. I had almost 12 years with him, but that didn't make it any easier. I spent a lot of time crying to the vet because he acted like himself so much of the time and they just kept telling me he'd let me know when it was time. It's heart breaking and there's nothing that makes it any better. I'll keep praying and following your updates. I wish I could do more.
So sorry to hear this update! I hope your vet was able to get you in right away this morning. Keep us updated and if you have any questions feel free to email me at brittneyporter at yahoo dot com. When this happened to our doxie I was looking for anyone with advice or experience with it so please don't hesitate to email me. I'll be thinking about your pup!
The hardest thing is you feeling helpless. But SHE is going to handle it just fine, whatever happens, I swear. Dogs have the most amazing capacity to adapt. She has a wonderful loving owner. As long as she has you she will be happy no matter what. I had a 3 legged dog who in old age lost the use of her back legs. That left her with – one working leg! She didn't care, she just got on with her happy life and never complained. (p.s. I know dog messes in the house can freak you out, you feel like it's a big new symptom or something. I'm sure it's not, don't stress about it. It goes in that 'small stuff' category, as in Don't Sweat the Small Stuff.)
My brother has been a vet for almost 20 years. I know this is tough. Pets become are family just as people do. My heart is breaking with you just reading your post. I will pray for you both.
Aww Roeshel. I'm so sorry.
When I was young, we had a miniature doxie that had disc problems. We did the medication route and hoped for the best because, in those days, they didn't routinely operate.
Our dog did recover although it took some time.
I so hope your dog starts to improve.
Oh I pray that I hear good news from you very soon. Blessings.
Hi! Oh, I feel for your Niski! My sister is an animal (and humans too) chiro, she also owns a dash 🙂 It is definately common for their backs to give them troubles. Please find an animal chiro in your area! Someone who is certified preferably. You will not regret it!
I hope your baby feels well soon, Tracy
Oh sweetie! I am so sorry she isn't improving yet. There is still ways she can be helped and it may take some time. I will look forward to updates and I am sorry your sweet baby has to go through it.
Hugs, Lisa
HUgs!! Thoughts and prayers are with your family.
I am so sorry she isn't getting better. 🙁 I will keep praying.
Niski is just plain adorable, and I remember and loved her post on snuggling. I really want a dachshund, and have researched the breed to a crazy extent because I am concerned about their back problems. Poor baby — you certainly have my prayer that she gets better.

P.S. We have a wonderful Dachsy Day at the Beach here on Cape Cod every fall!
Keeping her in my thoughts and prayers!
My thoughts and prayers are with you and Niski. I understand what your going through. I had to put my 9 year old Doxie Charlie to sleep 6 months ago. He could no longer walk and he was in a lot of pain. Surgery was going to be $3000and they weren't sure it would be successful.
I am so sorry that your baby is not doing well. We are an animal loving family and so I know this is a rough time on you. Spend time with your sweet Niski. Things sometimes seem to get worse before they get better so try to keep a positive outlook 🙂
Hi, hope its OK to contact you here. would love to include your blog on our giveaway blog network: Giveaway Scout (http://www.giveawayscout.com). Have a look and if interested drop us a line on our contact form (http://www.giveawayscout.com/contact/). thanks, Josh
I hope you get some positive news from the vet. You dog is so sweet.
i just had to write because in another blog i read, the blogger's daschund couldn't feel his hind legs either. something about a dislocated disc? anyway, check out kim at anthroholic.com. i swear i'm not promoting a site. i just thought maybe she might be able to offer some insight and might get you to the root of your doggie's problems. hope it helps!
Been through a similar situation and know this is all you can think about. Good thoughts and prayers coming your way.
Oh, sweetie. Of course we don't mind. I'm saying a prayer for your dear puppy. She looks like a darling.
Love,
Melanie
I am so sorry. It is the worst, especially when they seem perfectly fine and boom, you just aren't emotionally prepared. They are a family member and it is heart breaking. Saying 1:30 am prayers.
Cheri
I hope your furbaby comes out alright! You can see in her pictures that she just adores you. And obviously you do her.
