Because I deal with anxiety and panic attacks, I was the fuddy-duddy who stayed behind house watching during some of the adventures; content to relax in this beautiful home and most days you could find me lounging and reading by the pool. No complaints from me. My kind of get-away. Few plans, low key, stress-free! Beautiful, comfortable surroundings.

It felt like a big birthday celebration with all of the gifts! We each brought some cute things to swap and Anna Maria Island businesses welcomed us with a surprise swag bag full of goodies!

The Nesting Place Book Giveaway

A phrase that fits our home and perhaps yours too: “It doesn’t have to be perfect to be beautiful.” That’s the mantra at The Nesting Place and one that applies to not only our decorative surroundings or our design style but imperfect beauty in real life.

the Nesting Place book giveaway at diyshowoff.com

The Nester has just released an amazing book that covers the topic of accepting imperfection: The Nesting Place.

Here’s a description that says it so much better than I ever could since I’m only part way into the book: Perfection is overrated. Popular blogger and self-taught decorator Myquillyn Smith (The Nester) is all about embracing reality—especially when it comes to decorating a home bursting with boys, pets, and all the unpredictable messes of life. In The Nesting Place, Myquillyn shares the secrets of decorating for real people—and it has nothing to do with creating a flawless look to wow your guests. It has everything to do with embracing the natural imperfection and chaos of daily living. Drawing on her years of experience creating beauty in her 13 different homes, Myquillyn will show you how to think differently about the true purpose of your home and simply and creatively tailor it to reflect you and your unique style—without breaking the bank or stressing over comparisons. Full of easy tips, simple steps, and practical advice, The Nesting Place will give you the courage to take risks with your home and transform it into a place that’s inviting and warm for family and friends. There is beauty in the lived-in and loved-on and just-about-used-up, Myquillyn says, and welcoming that imperfection wholeheartedly just might be the most freeing thing you’ll ever do.

It’s easy to get caught up in focusing on what I don’t have, how my home compares to others, what’s missing. You too? This book helps change and redirect focus to appreciating what we do have, living and that creating a beautiful home not only doesn’t have to break the bank, it doesn’t have to be perfect to be beautiful.

Find a quiet space, put your feet up and read every word. You’ll walk away inspired to look at your home in a fresh new way by embracing imperfections and flaws (they can be good and comforting!), accepting that a lived-in home is a happy home, as well as gain tips for making the most of where you live. Now. Without waiting for perfect conditions, without maxing out the credit cards.

Bathroom Before and After

Hello DIY friends! Let’s talk bathroom makeovers! Do you have an embarrassment of a bathroom? Outdated? Blah? Boring? Frightening? I know the feeling. Read on, my friend. You just may find yourself in a position to give your bathroom a serious facelift thanks to Virtu USA! bathroom makeover before and after

There are two bathrooms upstairs in our home. The master bathroom is the smaller of the two (remember, old farmhouse = bathrooms were not a part of the original house plans) and the bathroom I’m about to show you. One for my hubby (the master) and one for me (this one). I know you’re going to be envious that I have had this gem all to myself for a couple of years. Labeled the “girls’ bathroom”, welcome to my own little private oasis…  bathroom makeover before Gag! Because no one sees the upstairs main bath except those who live here, it hasn’t been at the top of the DIY priority list in the 7 years since we moved in. It was functional and clean even if it was super ugly and outdated. Sort of a hurry up, shower, brush your teeth, throw on some makeup and get the heck out of this room! But a less desirable (to put it nicely) “before” makes for a magical “after”. This girl has a happy ending for sure! DIYShowOff Bathroom Makeover Vurtu USA When the opportunity to work with Virtu USA came up, it was just the motivation I needed to finally FINALLY rip out the old cheap doorless vanity (will have a new life as storage in the barn). The old medicine cabinet with Hollywood dressing room lights (that’s what those lined up round bulbs remind me of) became a roadside treasure for someone who must have needed it. My heart didn’t break as we tossed the old peeling up vinyl and I think the bathroom cried tears of happiness when I painted those poor sad walls. bathroom before Tiling the tub and shower surround will have to wait until later this year but that didn’t keep me from putting some blood, sweat, tears and lots of DIY and love into turning my bathroom into a beautiful new peaceful place just for me.  bathroom makeover after There are a couple of things that really make this an OMGosh! reveal. You probably couldn’t help but notice that gorgeous 48 inch Huntshire vanity topped with beautiful Italian Carrara marble… Huntshire bathroom vanity and the Talia faucet talia faucet I was immediately drawn to what the Huntshire description calls “straight lines and strong features”. I love the square basin with the traditional beauty, not to mention the size and storage (drawers and doors have soft closing hinges and slides!)…a place for everything and a big bold statement that this bathroom is finally not only truly functional but stunning as well! espresso bathroom vanity

Honeywell WiFi Smart Thermostat with Voice Control Review and Giveaway

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Honeywell International Inc. for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

We weren’t in the market for a new thermostat. Our older digitial Honeywell thermostat did the job but when the opportunity to try the new Honeywell Wi-Fi Smart Thermostat with Voice Control came up and after doing a little research, we decided that the options were super cool and convenient and something we wanted.

 photo 6fd4f4c0-102c-4c98-9d09-36b3d61074f8_zps807a6b75.png

1 – Voice Control. Of course the fact that it has a voice control option is cool and super high tech but it’s also convenient. (And yes, maybe even a little lazy…but the same was said when the television got the remote option and we didn’t have to get up off the couch to turn the tv channel. Remember that? Now we can’t live without it!) So, saying “Hello Thermostat.” and “Make it 2 degrees warmer (or cooler)” without getting up is a luxury! It recognized the voice command on the first try and even when I accented “Helloooo Thermostat” in the same way as Jerry Seinfeld’s “Helloooo Newman”! It even has volume and sensitivity settings. And you’re likely to lose your voice less often than you are a remote. ;)

2 – Remote Access. Another convenience! I can check and control my thermostat from any computer by logging into MyTotalConnectComfort.com or using the TotalConnectComfort app on my iPhone (also availabe on Android). So just like I can warm up my car with remote start, I can also warm up or cool down my home before I arrive or make adjustments if I forget when I leave the house. Or mess with my husband when he’s home alone. haha!

via computer

MyTotalComfortConnect

via app

Honeywell TotalConnectComfort App

3 – Easy Installation. I didn’t include a tutorial because more than likely your wiring is different than mine and Honeywell provides well written detailed instructions as well as a quick start guide and helpful installation videos. With everything I needed right in the box and just a few tools (tiny/precise standard screw driver, Phillips screwdriver, level and drill for making pilot holes) as well as helpful installation videos online (including support and different videos for differing wiring options), installation was so simple, I was able to install the thermostat myself while my husband prepared dinner. WiFi set up and registration are simple too! Note: It’s tinier than it looks! See my picture below. So you may need to touch up your wall paint if previous thermostat was larger or a different shape. It looks like a shadow in the picture, but that’s paint I need to touch up.

4 – Smart Response. It’s pretty neat that outdoor and indoor temps and humidity are displayed. Custom scheduling is another awesome option. I work from home so we don’t have to schedule Mon-Fri to accomodate being away from home but for us to schedule heating and cooling that works for our routine means waking to 70 degrees and falling asleep to 67 degrees seven days a week. Having it automatically adjust means no waking up sweating in the middle of the night because we forgot to adjust the thermostat and having to getting up and walk downstairs to make the change and not stepping out of bed and shivering first thing in the morning is pretty nice too!

5 – TouchScreen. Easy to read and customizable. I can choose screen colors that match my decor! And we’re not talking just tacky primary colors. Options include Midnight, Aurora, Plum, Blaze, Tangerine, Ice, Rose, Lavender, Chrome, Cabernet, Waterfall, Pear, Emerald, Berry, Sunshine. Something for everyone! My husband prefers the Midnight…black for a sleek, high tech look. I may change it to Rose or Cabernet for Valentine’s day when he’s not looking.

Getting Holiday Ready & Giveaway

How the heck do you get ready for the holidays when your home is under DIY construction and chaos? Well, I’m not sure but I can tell you how it’s going for me. When I have a lot going on, I’m a list maker. Seeing what needs done and checking things off helps keep me on track.  Otherwise, you know something’s going to get forgotten. This year, with being a part of the Lowe’s Creative Ideas team, Lowe’s has played a large part in halting my holiday home procrastination.

mercury glass centerpiece

Here is how my list goes:

  1. First priority is to finish up existing projects like bigger tasks so that I can breathe, relax and enjoy the rest of the year. So, I’m pushing to get some projects like our window installation, open pantry makeover and laundry room makeover complete. You may not see those makeovers until January, but my deadline for finishing them is a real life holiday home tour on 12/7.
  2. Cleaning and de-cluttering. In order to prep for digging out all of those bins filled with holiday decorating goodness, I need to start with a clean slate. That means piling up existing decorative accents (to be stored in the empty Christmas bins) and dusting, vacuuming, sweeping, scrubbing.
  3. Re-arranging the furniture. I decorate three trees for Christmas so moving furniture around to make room is one of my favorite parts of decorating. I love a fresh new perspective from the usual arranged room, don’t you?
  4. This one I usually start the weekend after Thanksgiving: Hauling out the Christmas decor bins and decorating! Pump up the volume on those Christmas tunes and deck the halls!
  5. Sending out Christmas cards to family and friends.  DIY Christmas Card Tree Display
  6. Holiday shopping. I’ve started a little shopping the past month or two but this is the time I take to get it done. I love giving gifts! Do you wrap as you go or pile it all up or wrap all gifts at once?  I love to be organized about it and wrap it all at once. Blasting the Christmas music in the background, singing along, ribbons and bows and paper and scissors and tape all within reach. It’s a huge wrap-fest! A party for one.
  7. Holiday baking. I don’t do much baking but hoping to change that a little this year. I’d love to have a variety of cookies to go with my hot cocoa.  chevron wooden table runner {chevron wooden table runner tutorial}

Call me crazy but I’m {unrealistically?} optimistic! Check back with me next weekend and I may be in a panic. Because #1 on my list is a doozy. But if I don’t have everything crossed off my list this week, I do have next week before Thanksgiving and the weekend after to fall back on. Having a deadline puts the pressure on to get things wrapped up…and I’m not even talking about the presents yet! rustic vintage glam christmas centerpiece

A few weeks’ back when I first started thinking about getting my home ready for the holidays by following the Lowe’s Holiday Showcase, I had the opportunity to play around with some decorating. Just enough to get me excited to get the projects done in order to get to the reward: rustic Christmas mantel

…really decorating for Christmas. rustic metallic vignette

That was a couple of weeks ago. Remember when I said I’m working on completing some bigger projects and a house under DIY construction? This is my dining room table now…{keeping it real!} dining room mess

Yikes! Not for long. According to my list, I’ll be clearing that table off today! Hurray! rustic glitter Christmas decor

I hosted a small get together with family and friends and we discussed holiday decorating and plans

Putting together a list this time of year really helps keep me on track as well as ensures I don’t forget something with so much going on.

DIYShowOff Gift Recommendations

Who could use some cold hard cash to get a head start on holiday shopping? Or how about something for yourself just this once? (Hey, I know you and I’d say you deserve a reward!) I’m joining a talented group of awesome blog friends in sharing some gift recommendations AND we’ve gathered together to offer a fun giveaway too!

*** UPDATE 11/12/13: This giveaway is now closed. Congratulations to Lisa F!

Earlybird Xmas giveaway

I LOVE LOVE LOVE giving! I spend a lot of time choosing just the right gift for each member of my family, so as I sat down to research my gift recommendations, I struggled with how to recommend something for someone I don’t know/something more generic. And after nearly 12 hours of browsing and editing a draft post 35902 times…I realized it just wasn’t going to happen or feel inspiring.

However! My family has already asked me for my Christmas wish list…so, here are some things I love and recommend (for me) but perhaps you’ll spy some great ideas for your holiday gift-buying (or your own wish list).

All year long our extra cash goes towards DIY home improvement and decorating and that wish list is loooooong, believe me! So for fun, I made a detour from the usual DIY theme. Each item listed is way below $250. Gotta love more bang for your buck!

Family Room Makeover in Progress

I have been working on my family room for years. It keeps getting pushed to the back burner. Ever have one of those rooms?

repurposed coffee table

When we first moved in, we removed carpet. Then lived with plywood subfloors for a few years before finally installing bamboo flooring.

I painted the French doors a beautiful Benjamin Moore Pacific Ocean blue with glazing when I created a door pediment from an old headboard…

And the old hunter green striped LaZBoy sofa was great quality but I was thrilled when it got slipcovered…

And then I saved my money to order the Waverly Santa Maria Desert Flower fabric I had to have to make curtains. That fabric sat untouched for a year. I finally got the curtains sewn but not hemmed although you couldn’t tell in photos.

DIYShowOff family room tour.jpg

It’s a room that I tend to decorate here and there, one we rarely use so it gets cluttered up, but it’s never really been finished.

Until now. With the help of Overstock.com, this room is getting “polished”… i.e. “completed”. I also want it to function more as a studio/work space too since it has great lighting. It’s finally happening!

If you’ve ever shopped at Overstock, you know there’s a great selection of all things home related at great prices. And I love shopping the WorldStock section for beautiful handmade home decor and furniture. 60-70% of the purchase price goes back to the artisan and suppliers!

Here’s a sneak peek at my Overstock order. Definitely eclectic…just the way I like it! Some things will have a bit of a DIY spin.

Honeywell Wi-Fi Smart Thermostat with Voice Control and fun giveaway!

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Honeywell Wi-Fi Smart Thermostat with Voice Control for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED. The winner is Kate from Just Cute Kate! Congratulations! I’ll be emailing you!

With the cooler temps fast approaching, we’ll be firing up the furnace as well as installing some much-waited-for new windows. Good bye drafty old house! Helloooo efficiency! As you know, I am not a fan of winter and cooler temps. When winter arrives, you’ll find me blogging all bundled up in layers.

So when Honeywell asked if I’d review and share the new Honeywell Wi-Fi Smart Thermostat with Voice Control, I watched the videos, read the specs, slept on it and decided it was something I couldn’t live without. Simply calling out “hello thermostat” (do you say that with a Jerry Seinfeld “Hello Newman” accent or is it just me?) and asking it to adjust the heat from across the room is well, “cool”! Isn’t it? Maybe “hot” is a better word in my case. In addition, if I turn the heat down before I leave for the day, I can log into the Total Connect Comfort app from my smart phone and adjust the settings to arrive home to a roasty toasty house. I love the ‘remote start’ on my car and this seems to be along the same lines for me…an awesome way to get through winter. Another bonus? I can customize it to accent my home decor! I’m eagerly awaiting the “clean house” command!

I should be getting it in a few weeks and I’ll let you know all about the installation and convenience first hand.

Silhouette Portrait Fabric Interfacing Tutorial

As a Silhouette America affiliate, I have the opportunity to try new products and earn a small commission on sales while passing along  special promotions. Here’s the current deal with awesome savings. Just use code “SHOWOFF” at checkout. blogger-promo-may-23

Did you know that Silhouette America has fun products like sewable fabric interfacing (thinner for sewing into place and washable) and clean cut fabric interfacing (thicker for no sew/no wash projects) for creating fabric appliqués?

Silhouette fabric interfacing

Here’s a tutorial on how it works: I chose the sewable fabric interfacing.

fabric interfacing tutorial

1. Pre-wash/shrink fabric and t-shirt.

2. Open the Silhouette Studio software and create a shape, monogram, even lettering for words. I easily purchased a ‘greyhound shape’ from the Silhouette online shop for 99 cents for labeling the pet food jars a while back that I can use over and over again. The little girl in me decided to create a pink chevron appliqué for a plain white t-shirt. For me. To match my dog. I’m a dork like that. ;)

3. It’s easy to size in the software. I place my shape in the top left hand corner of the “cutting mat” in the open studio software.

silhouette studio

4. Cut the appropriate sized piece of fabric and interfacing.

Silhouette interfacing

5. Next, iron together a piece the sewable fabric interfacing (rough side) to a piece of scrap fabric (cut to size) on the back/wrong side using the appropriate settings for the fabric.

ironing interfacing

{Wow! I guess I did get some sun in Mexico in Feb! I tan super easy/quick even with sunblock.}

6. Peel away the paper…you’ll see the ‘interfacing/glue’ has transferred to the fabric.

heat transferrable fabric interfacing

7. Then place the fabric onto the cutting mat (into the same location as shown in the Silhouette Studio software) and insert into the machine.

Silhouette cutting fabric

8. Hit “send to Silhouette”, change the blade and cut settings.

silhouette fabric blade

9. Click “cut”.

10. Once it’s finished cutting, remove the fabric from the cutting mat, toss the scraps and you’re left with an iron-on fabric appliqué.

SIlhouette applique

11. Next I positioned the appliqué onto my t-shirt and ironed it on (using the heat setting for cotton). This holds it into place.

12. Then added stitching as close to the border as I could get with the sewing machine to make it more secure and durable for washing. Tip to help maneuver curves in a design: with the needle down (piercing the fabric appliqué), lift the foot then slide around the t-shirt, put the foot back down and resume sewing. Also, make sure NOT to sew the front of a shirt to the back while sewing!

All done! Here is what it looks like inside out and all complete…

Cute! I love it. :)

Yes, this little Italian Greyhound has stolen my heart in the 1 month since we rescued her…

Note: I purchased the matching pink chevron dog leash (shown) and chevron dog collar (not shown) at Etsy shop, Learned Stitchworks. I loooove it (Thanks for the purple set too, Karen!) Gorgeous color choices, beautiful handmade quality, BEST pricing ever! Very satisfied customer. I need a set in every color, don’t you?

I purchased the (Riley Blake) pink chevron fabric from Fabric.com (leftover from the DIY dog bed cushion I made).

Back the fabric interfacing…It’s great for making personalized tea towels, baby blankets, tote bags, t-shirts, monogrammed pillow covers.

So not only does my Silhouette cut paper, vinyl and chipboard, it cuts fabric too! One more reason you can’t live without one! :)

Use code “SHOWOFF” at Silhouette America (this affiliate link) from now through May 31st to take advantage of the special pricing.

Did you notice the “Hello Sunshine” banner on the patio swing makeover yesterday?

patio swing makeover - after

Silhouette now has chipboard! Adding another FUNction to my Silhouette machine. Love it! {This is a sponsored post with affiliate links when using code “showoff”.}

Chipboard Banner Tutorial

Silhouette Chipboard Tutorial

I created my banner letters using the Silhouette Studio software and sent to “cut”. Add chipboard to cutting mat and insert into the machine. Remember to change the settings for each page to “chipboard” and to change the blade depth before cutting.

silhouette-chipboard-project

Two ways to paint chipboard letters (I used acrylic craft paint):

1. Remove lettering and paint. You will have painted fingers when trying to hold letters.

painting chipboard

2. Don’t punch out chipboard. Paint lettering intact then punch out when dry. Letters will need touched up when removed from chipboard.

how to paint chipboard

I painted both sides. Letters may need to be placed under weights (books) to flatten when dry.

When dry, using a hole punch, I placed two small holes at the top of each letter.

silhouette chipboard banner

And laced with two long pieces of ribbon (long enough for my words “Hello Sunshine”, including room for spacing and tying the ends. I laced starting in the back of the letter and pulling the ribbon through to the front, then into the second hole, coming out the back.

chipboard banner tutorial

Tie off the ends.

silhouette-chipboard-banner-tutorial

Ready to hang! I think I’m going to add a little color to my banner. And I’m going to love making customized party banners.

One of the things I love about owning my Silhouette is the ability to create cute customized vinyl labels…

labeled storage dresser in hallway

And since welcoming CocoRosie to our family recently….

italian-greyhound-cocorosie

{awe! those eyes!!}, anyway…I wanted to transfer pet food to an airtight container rather than dishing out from a pet food bag. Nothing pretty about those, ya know? I love glass jars but the cat food and dog food look very similar, so cute labels are a great solution.

It’s super easy to design my labels using the Silhouette Studio and purchasing/ downloading ‘silhouette’ shapes (and extra fonts) from the Silhouette store. Most run around .99 and stay in my ‘library’ for repeated use.

pet-labels-silhouette-studio

Cutting the vinyl is a cinch too…just load the vinyl, set the blade and click “send to Silhouette” to cut.

cutting-vinyl

Peel away the un-used/negative part of the vinyl design (also called weeding).

weeding-vinyl

You’ll have a vinyl “sticker” but peeling away the letters and placing by hand for me means creating a slanted label that isn’t ‘level’ and guessing on spacing. This is where transfer paper comes in handy. It “transfers” the vinyl design while keeping the design exactly spaced/level as it shows on the paper.

vinyl-sticker

How Transfer Paper Works: Simply cut a piece of transfer paper to size.

  1. Peel away the waxy backside (the transfer paper is the sticky/tacky paper).
  2. Place the transfer paper over the vinyl design you just weeded.
  3. Rub (I use a gift card/credit card).
  4. Then peel the backing away (waxy thicker paper). The design is now stuck (backward) to the transfer paper.
  5. Place the design/transfer paper onto the glass. Rub with a credit card.
  6. Peel away transfer paper. Vinyl design stays adhered to the glass.

Here’s what I whipped up in less than 30 minutes {containers are from Garden Ridge and scoops from a local commercial restaurant supply store}:

Pantry Makeover Prep and #ReadyDoneClean Giveaway

This giveaway is now closed. And the winner is… winner1

winner2

Congratulations, Jessica! I’ll send you an email to get your mailing information!

We’ve been using an enclosed porch as a temporary pantry ever since we removed a closet from our kitchen but with warmer weather approaching, it’s going to need to be moved inside for better temperature control. So, it’s time to start considering a pantry makeover.

Inspiration: I have had this open pantry image from Emerson Made saved in my inspiration files forever.

Emerson Made open pantry

via Apartment Therapy

The ideal spot is the ‘room’ behind this back wall in the kitchen… farmhouse kitchen

It’s wider than a hallway and sits between our kitchen and living room and has FIVE doorways. Time to make the most of what has always been a waste of space. The freezer will be relocated to the basement.

open pantry before

The first step in prepping for painting is to examine the walls and fill any holes, cracks or imperfections with spackling, letting it dry and sanding smooth. My Swiffer Sweeper is handy for cleaning up the spackling dust.

Then time for a little clean up. This area is so dark and un-used, meaning it often gets overlooked even though we walk through here nearly every day. Cleaning up before painting is important. Ever get cobwebs on your wet paint brush? No fun. A Swiffer Sweeper with a dry sweeping cloth works really well by attracting dirt and dust from virtually any surface, including walls, ceiling and baseboards with it’s 360 degree swivel head. With the long Swiffer Sweeper handle, I don’t even need a ladder to dust the 9 foot ceilings and corners.

I DO clean so I’m embarrassed by the dirt that accumulated in this dark, unused space. Yikes! This is just from the ceiling, walls and trim above 5 door frames. It’s not something you’ll want to paint over.

dirt and dust

I can’t believe it took cleaning this room for me to actually see the dirt. Gross! Next prepare for painting by taping off trim. Then paint!

After painting, I use my Magic Eraser. It’s is so powerful that it removes more grime per swipe than the leading all-purpose bleach spray cleaner, and it has no harsh chemicals. I seriously have a basket full of Magic Erasers. With a husband who loves to cook, I use them all.the.time. for cleaning up spills and drips on white kitchen cabinets too.

magic eraser clean up

It’s going to feel so good to use this space, for it to be lighter and organized! I can’t wait!

You can find all of your painting supplies, including the Swiffer Sweeper and Mr. Clean Magic Eraser, at the Home Depot near you. Be sure to visit Paint Like a Pro at HomeDepot.com for a paint calculator and more great DIY painting and tips.

Must Have Tool {and a giveaway!}

THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED. WINNER is Judy D. who says: “Planning on starting a dyi kitchen project and have only a couple tools on hand. Great giveaway.” Congratulations, Judy!
As you know, we renovated an apartment over the summer. We had the opportunity to review a screwdriver. The timing was perfect and the Master Mechanic Swift Driver seriously rocks! If I didn’t think so, I wouldn’t be writing this. Seriously, it’s the one tool that was always within reach and made a lot of our DIY projects easier.
Here’s the official description:

A new twist on an old tool. Master Mechanic dual-drive screwdriver employs a patented gear drive ratchet design that doubles your screwdriving efficiency. Drives the screw when you turn the handle clockwise AND counter-clockwise. 29-pc. set includes flexible shaft extension and multiple bit sizes for a variety of applications. Includes 7 phillips, 3 slotted, 4 hex, 3 square, 4 star, 6 SAE nut driver bits, and bit case. Ergonomic handle has a non-slip rubber grip and can store bits.

What I love. . .

  • No electric, no batteries required.
  • The dual ratcheting action was a lot easier on my hand and wrist! Every time I turned my wrist, it was working to get the job done, both left and right. It’s lightweight too.
  • I loved that I didn’t have to go searching for a specific type of screw driver since it has multiple interchangeable bit sizes (which can be stored in the handle) and since the bits are universal…I could grab one for the cordless drill when needed.
  • We ran into several tricky tight spots and the flexible shaft extension came in super handy (and even attached to the cordless drill).

Take a look at how I used it A LOT during the apartment renovation {still use it!}. From removing and re-attaching cabinet hardware to changing out doorknobs to installing shelving brackets to tightening vanity screws to hanging a mailbox to assembling furniture, this tool was super helpful.

Using the Master Mechanic Swift Driver

Example: When I’m re-attaching cabinet hardware and place the screw into the pre-drilled hole, I turn the screwdriver clockwise. Then, when I turn counter-clockwise, it’s turning the screw, pushing it further into place too. I love that! I don’t have to change my grip! Just keep winding right, left, right, left. Then with a push of a button, the same works in reverse to remove the screw. So cool!

So, if you are looking for a great gift idea for a DIY’er a non-DIY’er too or stocking stuffer OR you’re tired of sore palms or digging for the right screwdriver, I know this would be a HUGE hit. The recipient is not going to be disappointed, won’t ask for the gift receipt and WILL use it!

The Master Mechanic Swift Driver is available {and on sale!} at True Value Hardware.
