DIY Engraved Glass Vase

It’s almost wedding season and DIY/handmade gifts are so special, aren’t they?

Do you love personalized/engraved gifts as much as I do? Well, we’re big Dremel fans (gotta love tool that doesn’t intimidate AND we actually have a “Dremel workshop” in our basement…that’s a post for a different day). I recently had the opportunity to try the Dremel Maker Kit which comes with 3 awesome tools: an engraver, a torch (wood burning/soldering) and the much loved rotary tool!

Anyway, today I’m going to share a little about the engraver. I have a bridal shower to attend next month so I wanted to practice personalizing glass.

What I used:

  • glass jug/vase (mine had a nice flat side)
  • Dremel engraving tool (affiliate link
  • tape, Sharpie, water, paper towel
  • I made up this ‘stencil’ – right click image below, save image/upload into a word document, resize to fit your project and print.

What I did:

Print and cut out a design. Now, you can go all landscape scenery with trees or mountains or a portrait if you’re a pro but I went with the word “BLOOM” (font is ‘typewriter’) and a dragonfly silhouette (Picmonkey) –  something easy for a beginner.

I taped it to the inside of my vase and traced the pattern with a Sharpie, then removed the paper stencil.

Then…put on your safety goggles and engrave away! It’d probably be helpful to secure your vase to the table with a clamp but I didn’t have any problem holding it in place with one hand and engraving with the other. I started with the lowest setting but traced over my design after kicking it up a few notches to #4.

Wipe away dust and Sharpie with water and paper towel.

Ta-da!

I LOVE the end result, don’t you? It’s so cute! Now I’m ready to engrave.all.the.things! Look out!

Psst. You’re going to want to play with the entire set. We did a little wood burning…(hold that torch vertical!)

Personalized Clip Board Gift

Most parties are behind us but I wanted to share this easy DIY hostess gift. Make up a custom and personalized clipboard using these supplies:

easy DIY clipboard gift idea @diyshowoff

• clipboard
FrogTape®
• craft paint and paint brush
• large monogram stickers

I created a simple design using FrogTape. I did a simple diagonal. Get creative!

I burnished the edges of FrogTape where tape will meet paint using a credit card (or my thumbnail) to activate the Paintblock® Technology for crisp clean lines. easy DIY clipboard gift idea @diyshowoff

Next I applied two coats of paint to the clipboard on the bottom side of the tape.

While the second coat of paint was still wet, I carefully removed the FrogTape.

Then I let the paint dry.

Once paint is dry, add fun monogram stickers to personalize.easy DIY clipboard gift idea @diyshowoff

Attach a gift card/greeting card for a birthday or a calendar or agenda for a new year’s eve party hostess gift. Make one for yourself to keep important papers organized or search online for free printables to fit the occasion or theme. easy DIY clipboard gift idea @diyshowoff

Essential Oil Lotion Hearts

It’s the second month of the Embracing Wellness Series and giveaway – several blog friends sharing their favorite Young Living essential oils and hosting an awesome giveaway as our way of wanting to help spread the oily love. Woo hoo! More details below. *This post contains some affiliate links of what I purchased on Amazon, enough supplies for several different DIY/handmade recipes.

These essential oil lotion hearts are not only a great gift idea, they’re super handy for dry skin. Winter and extra-handwashing have made my hands super dry. I love having these on display/ready to grab near the soap on our bathroom sinks and in my purse for a quick grab. Not to mention a cute gift, great {essential oil} business incentive or prize at essential oil classes/events.

Ingredients I used:

*I chose Valor for the one I keep in my purse. I like the benefits for easing occasional feelings of anxiety on top of soothing dry skin on the go. I also like Joy, Peace & Calming, Lavender and Sacred Mountain. One of the bonuses to DIY! YOU choose the essential oil you prefer.

Valor: Valor® is an empowering combination of therapeutic-grade essential oils that works with both the physical and spiritual aspects of the body to increase feelings of strength, courage, and self-esteem in the face of adversity. Renowned for its strengthening qualities, Valor enhances an individual’s internal resources. It has also been found to help energy alignment in the body.

What I did:

I simply added the shea butter, beeswax and coconut oil into a double boiler (I bought this double boiler) and melted it together over medium-high heat.

Once completely melted and blended, remove from heat and mix in essential oil. You’ll need to move through the next step rather quickly (but you can always reheat to liquify if needed).

I poured my mixture into a glass measuring cup to make pouring the mixture into silicone heart molds easier.

I let them cool. It doesn’t take long. I waited a few hours just to be sure they were completely cool and formed.

Then I removed the hearts from the silicone mold. They pop out easily! Wrap for gifts or display in small labeled dish on the bathroom sink.
