She’ll be having a baby in a few short months and to make room for baby, switched around several rooms in her house. One of Shelby’s biggest challenges was to combine her office and craft spaces into one multi-functional, organized splace.

DIY Project Parade ~ vintage inspired craft room/office reveal

I think I’ve only shared a peek of my craft/office space in the past. I challenged my flu-fighting self to clean it up yesterday in order to accomplish something. It sometimes quickly becomes a dumping ground for everything craft related. Note, this is a tiny room…so while it looks like I may border on ‘hoarder’, it is all organized!  I confess, it’s not only craft supplies but just things I like and things that I might find a use for in the future. It is a lot crammed into one small room.

This room before was a spare bedroom that never got used…

 I moved the bed to a guest room downstairs.

And moved my office/craft stuff upstairs. (So visitors don’t have to see a mess if I’m in the middle of a project.) Now, everything old looks fun and organized. I love that I don’t have to always use the dining room table for craft projects.

Roomspiration – Craft Rooms

You MUST see her awesome craft room! It’s so organized and pretty and you’ll drool!

My craft room/office combo is actually in the works. I’m in the process of moving my office/craft room upstairs (to be able to close the door when it’s a disaster) and create a pretty guest bedroom downstairs. I just emptied this room:

Before (although the twin bed has been gone for about a year)

Now that room is completely empty.  When we moved in, we removed the gross carpet and just live(d) with plywood.

The mood board I created is intended for this room! 
And there wasn’t a door on the bathroom!  We added one soon after we moved in and it’s time to add trim to this side of the door frame. The opening on the right used to be a walk-through closet. It’s now our laundry room. (Another project one of these days!)
Okay – enough about the guest room! Back to the craft room!

Most of my craft junk has been moved into our unfinished family room.  It looks like this…YIKES!  Where does all that stuff come from?!!!
Just keeping it real!  The family room is another project on our DIY list.

However, here’s where what I’m keeping is all getting moved to, everything in it’s place…

I‘m not quite finished and it’s all just moving, re-organizing, sorting and purging and using things I already had into a room that didn’t need re-painted at this time.  I still have to move my sewing machine in here. Nothing new in the room but it really needed organized and downsized and I love the way just a new location with old t
hings feels fresh and new, don’t you?

Beach Brights' Awesome Craft Room

Who needs a formal living room anyway?!  Let’s see:  You spend a lot of time in your comfy cozy family room and the formal living room gets little traffic.  You do crafts on the dining room table or the coffee table or even the floor. Sound familiar?  I love that Christy from Beach Brights found a better solution in her home. I would have done the same thing.  A little-used area becomes a functional awesome VERY useful area!

 There’s even an extra handy outlet in a great spot – can you see it?

Closet Office – More than Rubies

With a new baby on the way and a craft room turning nursery, Amber from More than Rubies was looking for a place to organize her craft supplies and create an office space.  After a lot of research, they decided to turn the guest room closet into an office. Here are some pictures of her inspiration:

First, they cleaned out the closet (before):

Second step was to re-vamp an old computer desk (a GoodWill find).
They used 7ft piece of plywood to extend the desk top to fill the closet.

Sanding, priming, and painting.

After getting the painted desk and desktop into the closet, they added some side shelving for additional storage…


As a finishing touch, they added a piece of molding to the front of the desk so that the plywood addition wasn’t so obvious. It worked out perfectly!

Now, they have an fun space for Amber’s craft supplies and a small organized office area!

The total cost of the closet re-model was about $100 dollars. Amber plans to find curtains to cover the opening for when it’s not in use.

Creating an Office/Craft Space

I got this letter from Ashli:

I wanted to share our recent renovation with you. I started a blog www.maillardvillemanor.com
We had a very ugly powder room, about 3 steps from our dinning room ewwww. . . 
what we needed was a computer and craft room.
We took out the pedestal sink and toilet. My husband capped off the plumbing, we didn’t want to remove it, for resale purposes, and we installed some ikea kitchen cabinetry.
The bottom corner piece is an ikea upper cabinet. The other lower cabinets are scrapbook storage boxes from Michaels Craft Store.
The counter top is a wood one from ikea. We cut it to size using a table saw and a jig saw. The upper cabinets are ikea uppers and in between them we use simple ikea shelves and baskets bought from ikea also.
We installed some key hooks to keep our spare keys organized.

Ashli -holy cow!  You guys did a fantastic job!  What an awesome office/craft area and I love that you didn’t permanently remove the possible back-to-the original bathroom function for the future.  Genius.  I love how organized and pretty everything is! A Room for Scrapbooking – Life's Little Details

Scrapbookers – you’ll love this transformation. Crafters too. Bonnie from Life’s Little Details transformed a guest bedroom into a fun, organized scrapbooking/craft room. It’s beautiful!

Scrapbooking Room

When we moved into our 4 bedroom house several years ago we quickly realized that the spare bedroom became a dumping ground for lots of miscellaneous items. To me is seemed like wasted space. Only one time in 3 years did someone spend the night and use it as a spare bedroom. So my bright idea was to make it into a scrapbooking room for me and the girls. As always Sean was a little skeptical of my idea. So September 2009 we got to work.

Here is BEFORE:

The walls were a Navy Blue. The room is small to begin with and the dark walls definitely made it seem smaller. There isn’t a closet because the previous owner closed it off and opened the wall in the other bedroom to make a closet.
So after several layers of primer and a few layers of much brighter paint, here is the new room:


Of course I had lots of scrapbooking supplies and arts and craft supplies to fill the room.




When my scrapbooking stuff was in the basement I already had the drawer cabinets. Sean made a countertop to put on top and extended it around the wall so the girls had their own work space. We added wall cabinets and shelves. Now everything has a place.

The girls love the room and all the fun stuff they have to use to create. I love that we can all be in the room at the same time and all have our own space.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE my room. I love that I can find everything and it is all organized. The room gets quite messy sometimes
but that is ok….proof we are enjoying and creating in our wonderful space.
