Pinterest PinFest – February 2012

Happy Valentine’s Day, friends!  xoxo

The DIY Show Off

I live in the north, might be suffering symptoms of cabin fever, seasonal affective disorder and just lo-o-o-o-nging for sunshine and fresh air, open windows, green grass, warm temperatures and longer days but I do always remember that I am blessed and have so much to be thankful for and don’t really sink into any sort of depression, just a little case of the ‘blahs’ and discouragement. Some days, I just dream of staying snuggled all day…

DIY Project Parade – DIY Photo Backdrop

Image

Hi DIY friends!  Having a productive weekend?

I’m far from a professional photographer. However, I do take pictures for my family. And friends. And sometimes friends of family and friends. {And of lots of DIY projects too!} Plus my girls and I love fun photo shoots just for fun as well. My camera sees a LOT of action. So I was thrilled to get this lighting kit and backdrop for Christmas

because I was a good girl this year. ;)

But honestly, being my thrifty DIY self, if I hadn’t have gotten the above kit, I definitely, would have been making a DIY PVC pipe version like the tutorial shown here. You know what else I’ve considered using?  A clothes rack (simple to assemble/store and a nice smaller portable version – you might even have one ‘hanging around’ in the closet or basement!)…

Recently I saw this on on Pinterest by Kim from Easy Peasy Pie

and I was inspired! Who wants a plain white or black backdrop when you can have a pretty designer custom looking background? Kim uses a beautiful Target tablecloth. Use curtain panels, twin flats sheets – vintage from the thrift shop would be awesome and affordable and both of those options have rod pockets.  Or choose a pretty fabric. I purchased 2.5 yards of the fabric below from Joann’s.

  1. Iron fabric.
  2. Iron approx. 3 inch hem. Flip the raw edge under and iron.
  3. Sew close to the edge, creating a rod pocket.
  4. Slide into place on top rod.

Take it a step further with a faux baseboard:  I had two 1x4s left over from the guest bedroom makeover (lucky me – one was even painted!).  Place fabric between boards. I set the back board on top of the back side of the fabric and made sure the fabric was pulled taut…
Place finished board in front and clamp ends. Clamps were about a dollar for 4″ size at the hardware store.
So like Kim says, I can fool everyone into thinking I have a fancy schmancy house when in reality our family room needs lots of work…
Whenever I  need a photography model, I just start placing photo props in place and Lalka jumps right in, makes her self comfortable and claims it as her own.  Diva!
“Me not working hard?
Yeah, right! Picture that with a Kodak
Or, better yet, go to Times Square
Take a picture of me with a Kodak”…Give Me Everything, Pittbull
I think this shot is for her catch.com profile…

Single female Ragdoll seeks Casanova.
Works pretty well, doesn’t it? Looks like I have a pretty wallpapered wall in my home.
Thanks so much to Kim for the inspiration!

Oh and if you’re a Pinterest fan (and I know you are, who isn’t?), you might want to take the Pinterest Challenge with Katie, Sherry, Ana and Erin. I plan on joining in!!! I love a great reason to DIY (did you know that’s a verb?) something I’ve seen. This party is motivation to not just pin and “forget about it” (I just watched Donnie Brasco and can’t help saying that with a NY accent…I think it was quoted 700 x in that movie, wasn’t it?) - but to be proactive about what we pin.  Anyway, head over and link up to the

Pinterest PinFest Linky Party ~ Daydreaming

It’s Pinterest PinFest time!  Did you forget?  I almost did!

This month, I’m hoping to clean out my closet and to get it ready for colder weather. Where are my warm sweaters, cute boots, cable knit tights, even my jeans?  Secret:  My wardrobe is currently all over the place:  (i.e. the laundry room, my daughter’s old room, laundry baskets, the hallway, my closet, my dresser, a little bit in the bathroom and all over our master bedroom).  I don’t know how it’s happened but I’m ready to get organized. So, I need a little closet and clothing motivation and inspiration.  Here’s my Pinterest daydream…

Once upon a time, I had a dream that I had this dressing room…everything has a place and I’d have beautiful clothes. I’d sit on my pretty ottoman and change my clothes 20 times.
Pinned Image
My daughters and I love scouring the thrift stores for our clothes better than we like going to the mall.  Here are some warmer outfits I’d love to put together and I think I could come close if I was organized enough to find everything.

More dressing room dreams…

The reality:  I’m thinking of moving all of my clothing and accessories to my daughter’s old room and creating a dressing room (it’s currently a 2nd guest bedroom). It has 2 closets! It’s on the 2nd floor. It’s near the hall bathroom that I use. Don’t worry, I’d be leaving the master bedroom for Mr. DIY’s things. We really lack closet space. Old farmhouse = skinny closet and one small additional closet created by previous owners with what we call “saloon doors”.  It’s so ugly and more of a storage place than closet. I do have built in drawers and shelving though ~ and if I do a dressing room, I’d gladly surrender them to Mr. DIY’s gigantic t-shirt collection.

I‘m talking about this room (we just finished a main floor guest room) and rarely get over night guests, so this second floor guest room could serve as my dressing room without much work, don’t you think?  It’s off to a pretty start!

The more I think about it, the more it really appeals to me.  Don’t be surprised if you see future posts about it!

Now it’s your turn! Has Pinterest inspired your next project or your daydreams?

Autumn Love Pinterest Linky Party

Welcome to the first official
A special thanks to Heather from At The Picket Fence for the DIY button makeover. Isn’t it pretty?! Inspired by the colors from the “Cassity & Roeshel” room design challenge. Heather, dear blog friend – you are so sweet and talented and I love my special gift. Thank you!

Cooler temps, shorter days and changing leaves are making it hard to ignore that Fall is here.  I’m daydreaming of new boots, warm sweaters, warm, rich colors, spicy autumn scents and mouth watering comfort foods & aromas coming from the kitchen. Snuggling in and getting cozy. Here is my autumn Pinterest daydream in pictures…some of which are inspiring enough to become reality in my home…

Pardon my casualness but this is my favorite attire for fall…
This year I’m decorating for fall in soft muted creams, browns and golds with a touch of smokey turquoise, deep red and rusty orange this year:
I love turquoise paired with orange almost as much as with red…

Pinterest PinFest Linky Party ~ Daydreaming

I updated our HOME TOUR and now I’m taking a little break from showing off to work on some projects with a reward of a daydream today.

The house I “built” using some of my favorite pins:
Entryway.  Welcome.  I hope you’re in lounge clothes. No work today.
Living Room (Yes! The one I designed with Cassity.)
I’d love to move this entire room into our home.
Kitchen. Cup of tea and cookies?
Bedroom. Tomorrow, I’ll blog from here.
Bathroom. Just a sneak peek.
Where I do laundry:
I’d love to be creative in here…
Outdoor Oasis
I have a gift for you…
What I’d love to be wearing as I head to dinner tonight:
How I’m feeling:
What I’m snacking on:
If you’re a dreamer like me, do you want to do this every once in a while with me?  A Pinterest PinFest (or any motivating inspiration post) linky party?   You know how much I love parties and inspiration for my next DIY project. :)
Enjoy the day!
