Make up chocolate ‘shot glasses‘ (SO many great ideas for these!) by melting chocolate, adding essential oils and pouring into silicone molds. Fill with chocolate mousse. I’ve tried two versions…a more complex recipe using heavy cream, etc. and an easy pudding/whipped topping recipe. The first was a little too rich (but so good) but I prefer the second ‘light’ version.  spring party inspiration #michaelsmakers #madewithmichaels @diyshowoff @michaelsstores spring party inspiration #michaelsmakers #madewithmichaels @diyshowoff @michaelsstores spring party inspiration #michaelsmakers #madewithmichaels @diyshowoff @michaelsstores spring party-13 spring party inspiration #michaelsmakers #madewithmichaels @diyshowoff @michaelsstores spring party inspiration #michaelsmakers #madewithmichaels @diyshowoff @michaelsstores

Easy DIY Personalized Easter Basket Liner

Happy Spring! With a new grand-baby in the family, I can’t help but get all giddy about making up an Easter basket this year. As you know, I love to personalize gifts and with just a t-shirt and a DIY iron-on vinyl, this liner is super easy to make!

DIY personalized Easter basket liner tutorial @diyshowoff

What I used:

personalized Easter basket liner @diyshowoff

What you’ll need: sewing machine, scissors, straight edge, computer/vinyl cutter, iron.

What I did:

Lay inside out t-shirt flat and using a straight edge, draw a line beneath the t-shirt arms. This is the sewing guide…simply a straight line.

personalized Easter basket liner @diyshowoff

Sew along the line.

personalized Easter basket liner @diyshowoff

Then cut straight across above the sewn line (right below the armpits of the t-shirt).

personalized Easter basket liner @diyshowoff

Flip right side out.

Place the seam inside of the basket and fold the edges of the t-shirt over the basket to create a liner. Measure how much room you have horizontally and vertically to get an idea of your iron on design’s size. I kept mine under 2″ high by 7″ wide.

personalized Easter basket liner @diyshowoff

Using the Silhouette Design Studio software, I created a graphic with name and a cute little bunny shape.

personalized Easter basket liner @diyshowoff

You’ll need to mirror the text and image by right clicking and selecting “flip horizontally”.

personalized Easter basket liner @diyshowoff personalized Easter basket liner @diyshowoff

Double check the size. (One sheet of iron-on vinyl is going to make a LOT of decals!)

personalized Easter basket liner @diyshowoff

Load vinyl into the machine shiny side down. The shiny side is actually the transparent cover. Vinyl is the matte side (facing up).

personalized Easter basket liner @diyshowoff

Send the design to ‘cut’. Adjust setting for heat transfer material and “cut”.

personalized Easter basket liner @diyshowoff

When cutting is complete, remove vinyl from machine. Trim to a manageable size.

personalized Easter basket liner @diyshowoff

Weed away the excess vinyl. The decal will show a backwards design on the transparency.

personalized Easter basket liner @diyshowoff

Smooth out the t-shirt liner with the open end facing you. Place the iron on decal towards the bottom, centered.

personalized Easter basket liner @diyshowoff personalized Easter basket liner @diyshowoff

Cover with a cotton cloth (or the scrap t-shirt material) and iron according to instructions that came with the iron on vinyl.

personalized Easter basket liner @diyshowoff personalized Easter basket liner @diyshowoff

Carefully remove the transparency film.

personalized Easter basket liner @diyshowoff

Line the Easter basket and fill. Easy, right? Cute too!

DIY personalized Easter basket liner tutorial @diyshowoff DIY personalized Easter basket liner tutorial @diyshowoff

It’s actually a pretty easy DIY project for any time of the year, any basket or to personalize a gift basket for any occasion.

Who likes a little extra comfort with some warmth when cold, cooling off when hot and relaxing/calming essential oils to promote a good night’s sleep!? Don’t we all?

Only a few more weeks ’til Easter. (And we host our family’s dinner/get-together which is why you haven’t seen any major DIY projects in the works…no creating a bigger mess until post-Easter around here). But…enjoy some smaller fun projects in the meantime.

Looking for a (useful and handmade) gift idea? I like to give my nieces and nephews candy-free gifts. Since I’m so in love with essential oils, I think these cute lil’ snuggle bunny heat/cold packs are a nice gift idea. Perfectly soothing. Also a cute idea for essential oil class/party door prizes too.

Easter Succulent Garden

Remember that one time last year when I made a wire cloche for a succulent terrarium/garden? It’s a miracle! I haven’t managed to kill the plants! I love that succulents are so hardy, nearly fool-proof. Well, for Easter, I’ve done a little re-arranging in my little succulent garden.

DIY wire succulent garden

{DIY wire cloche for succulent garden}

It’s still alive and thriving but it was looking a bit neglected and sad (okay, so some of the plants didn’t make it) but I took a few minutes to freshen it up for spring, trying to make up for my non-green thumb. I saw something similar somewhere one time but for the life of me, can’t find it now to properly credit that glimpse of inspiration. Here’s what I did:

Easter succulent garden at diyshowoff.com

  • I added water so the soil was wet. I broke up the compacted soil with a fork then added half of an empty toilet paper roll. I covered it with soil and pebbles then added a rock to the side…just like Jesus’ tomb.
  • Using twigs from my yard and scrap floral wire, I created 3 little stick crosses and tucked them near the back.

When Easter decorating becomes bunnies, eggs, chicks and candy overload (which I do love too, don’t get me wrong!), it’s nice to have a sweet reminder of the true reason for celebrating Easter. He is risen!

Mismatched Baskets to Matching Spring Collection

Have a bunch of mismatched baskets sitting around? Why not gather them up and create a matching collection just in time for spring organizing or Easter decorating?

mismatched to cute collection - basket DIY at diyshowoff.com

Materials:

  • baskets (thrift stores or your own stash)
  • spray paint
  • FrogTape® Delicate Surface

I first cleaned up my baskets since they were a bit dusty. Then sprayed each basket with a different color of spray paint around the middle/outside and let dry.

DIY painted basket collection

After 24 hours, I used FrogTape® Delicate Surface to create (and protect) a stripe around each basket.

DIY painted basket collection with FrogTape

Use a thumbnail or credit card to activate the patented PaintBlock® Technology, giving the edges of the tape a good seal the best you can with the woven basket texture.

Next I sprayed each basket inside and out with white spray paint.

You can remove the tape while paint is wet but I forgot and removed it about four days later without any problem.

removing FrogTape

Now instead of 3 junky baskets, I have a set of 3 cute matching baskets all ready for the Easter Bunny…

Spring Mantel Decorating

I don’t know about you but I’m so over winter and ready for spring, flowers, warmer weather and longer days. And to help welcome spring into our home, I set about decorating the mantel to spring ahead into the next much anticipated season – spring!

Looking for a big backdrop for seasonal decor? Simply wrap a large canvas with wrapping paper or fabric. Leave it as is, attach glittery garland or a pretty wreath and you’re good to go (and super easy to swap out for every season without having to store art work, not to mention lots of options for the perfect size and coordinating colors).

Crate Easter Baskets/Centerpiece

Adjusting to an empty nest isn’t always easy, especially during the holidays when fun traditions sort of just stop. I miss my nightgown-clad little girls searching for Easter baskets on Easter morning. And so, even though they are grown, until they have families of their own, I’ve decided to continue the tradition of putting together an Easter basket for each of them.

easter-vignette

My girls share my love of chocolate (it’s a girl thing, right?) and eclectic style so this year, I went with a DIY rustic crate-inspired Easter basket.

easter-basket-crates

Materials:

  • Small unfinished crates
  • TransTint dye (dark mission brown)
  • Stamps/ink
  • Wide burlap ribbon
  • Spanish moss
  • Filler: Lindt chocolates

Tutorial:

I started with staining my crates using a TransTint dye and let dry.

staining-crates-transtint-dye

Next, using stamps and ink, I labeled each of the crates with “farmers market, “recycle” and an established date. “Herbs” would have been cute too.

stamped-crates

Then I lined the sides with burlap ribbon.

burlap-crate-lining

I recycled some brown paper packaging material for the bottom of the crates and topped with Spanish moss.

paper-moss-topper

Garden Markers: I painted two wooden garden markers (Michaels) with chalkboard paint, wrapped the sticks with washi tape and added a bow.

chalkboard-garden-markers

Then filled the baskets with Lindt chocolatates {love those little foil-wrapped chocolate bugs, critters, lambs, chicks and carrots} and other little treasures.

lindt-easter-candy

Rather than hide them this year, I’m using them as a centerpiece.

As always, there’s attending an Easter service at church, hosting Easter dinner and a family Easter egg hunt too. Do you have an Easter tradition to share?

Paper Mache Easter Egg craft

A day with freezing rain isn’t my ideal spring day, but it is still officially winter. Spring. In like a lion, right? ::groan::

Fortunately, this dip-dyed {painted} paper mache Easter egg craft is a cheerful easy DIY project which aided in averting my eye from the cold, gloom and sleet outside.

painted-dip-dyed-eggs

I don’t think you really need a tutorial. But, since writing up a “how to” is what I love to do, I’m going to tell you what I did anyway. 😉

painted-dip-dyed-paper-mache-easter-egg-tutorial

Materials:

  • Paper mache eggs
  • FrogTape
  • DecoArt Americana acrylic craft paints

Wrap FrogTape around the paper mache egg to create a faux dipped line. Using my fingernail, I rubbed the edge of the tape to activate the Paint Block Technology to prevent paint from seeping underneath the tape, to create a crisp clean line.

FrogTape-on-paper-mache-easter-egg

Then I simply painted the bottom of my paper mache eggs using different spring-inspired colors:

painted-paper-mache-egg

Pull away/remove FrogTape while paint is still wet. It’s a little tricky! After I was done, I thought: “I should have used a set of tongs or something to get a better grip on my egg.” #hindsight

removing-FrogTape

Allow paint to dry. (I just set mine on the cellophane paper mache egg packaging.)

Decorate!
