Involving Color

I’ve “known” Jena from Involving Color for quite awhile and I not only love her creativity and beautiful home, I love her site.  She has some new features and really helpful tools so I asked her to share a little about it today. It’s a site you’re going to want to pin or bookmark for when you’re trying to choose a paint color. See paint colors in “real” rooms. Here’s Jena:

Hi, I’m Jena from Involving Color, and I’m so excited to be guest posting here on The DIY Show Off! I’ve been a long time reader of Roeshel’s blog, so when she asked me to come share a little about my site with you guys, I was beyond excited.

Involving Color is a blog all about paint color. I have hundreds (and growing!) reader submitted rooms organized in galleries by paint color and room type. I even have a section just for painted furniture. I recently added a lot of functionality with an improved search and image tags, which I’ll talk about below.

I came up with the concept when we bought our home a couple years ago which was in desperate need of a little TLC. One of the first things on the to do list was painting. I spent hours online looking for paint color inspiration, and was perhaps a tad obsessed with finding just the right paint colors. Can you relate? I’m sure many of you DIYers can!

I had a hard time finding a source for paint color inspiration, especially finding out the names of paint colors in rooms I saw online, so I thought, I should do that! And so I did! I have tried to make Involving Color an easy to browse resource for browsing rooms by paint color, to gather inspiration for rooms you would like to paint, and also to see rooms painted in similar colors to your existing rooms to get ideas.

One of the main things I have tried to do is include the paint color name whenever I can. I think it really helps when you are choosing paint colors to see what a color looks like used all over a room rather than just a small swatch. It lets you see what undertones come out and how light or dark it is. There is nothing more frustrating than painting an entire room only to realize the color is nothing like you envisioned.

You can also do more general searches, such as gray bedrooms, or by brand, such as Benjamin Moore.

If you see a type of room or color you like, use the tags to see other images with the same tags.

With this image, you could select rooms with the tags Benjamin Moore, Benjamin Moore Stonington Gray, Grays, Living Rooms, Wainscoting, or Gray Living Rooms. I even have tags for stripes and stencils so you could narrow rooms by just those features if you like.

And if you have rooms of your own you would like to share, please see my submissions page. All you have to do is upload your image or include a link to where I can find it, whether it is on your blog or a photo page like Flickr. I just need basic info like the paint color names and your website if you have one so I can give credit back. I love sharing your beautiful spaces!

I also share my personal adventures in DIY, decorating, cooking, and life in general on my newly launched blog, Involving Home.

So that’s a little bit more about Involving Color. I hope to see you over there, and thanks so much, Roeshel, for having me today!

Thank you, Jena!
