I was blown away by this awesome iPhone costume made by Heather at Decor4Poor!  Visit her here to see the details. Wow, huh? First place costume winner for sure!

This beautiful pumpkin is up for grabs at Frou-FruGal (enter here).  She also typed up an easy tutorial and it’s super cheap so you can DIY!

Still plenty of time to create a beautiful fall wreath.  Check out this great tutorial from Susan at Hometown Girl. Inspiration: Pottery Barn.  Cost:  $6.50!

Thanks for the comments about the fall photo shoot with my girls last week – I loved the encouragement!  As soon as I get a free minute (how and when still to be determined – I’m giving the place below a shot. Have you tried putting one of your photos on a canvas?  I’d love to hear about your experience!)

DIY Show Off Comment Carnival

I‘ll be opening the DIY Fall Festival here in a little bit but I wanted to open up a post for a little game of 20 6 questions.  Is there anything you’d like to know about The DIY Show Off /me? I mean, of course I like pina coladas and getting caught in the rain but if you have a question – now is the time to ask I can’t promise I’ll have an answer but I’ll try. I’m always open to suggestions for making the site better too! I also love to hear about the real person behind the blog when I visit you but now that you’re visiting me – inquiring minds want to know:
  1. Introduce yourself in a comment.
  2. What was your last blog post was about if you have a blog or a word to describe your mood today.
  3. If you could choose any 1 thing right now as a gift to yourself from a catalog or store, what would it be?  (Maybe Santa Claus reads the DIY Show Off!)
  4. Is there something you’d like to know about me?
  5. Do you have a suggestion to make the DIY Show Off better or a question about my blog?
  6. Random act of blogness – pop over to the blog of the commenter before or after you and leave a smiley emoticon in the comments.  What was 1 photo/image you saw there?
  7. If you could have one week off paid to do a DIY project in your home (free supplies and products, what would you DIY? (Hey, doesn’t hurt to dream!)
If there are questions related to me, I’ll write up an answer post this weekend.  🙂

Thanks for stopping by!  Stop back later for the DIY Fall Festival.

At Home Alterations

DIY Show Off reader, meet Mike and Katrina from At Home Alterations.  Isn’t that a great name for a DIY blog?  You know what’s better?  Their actual DIY and at home alterations.  You can see more (lots of DIY and before and after!) at their blog but here are a few of the projects they’ve mastered.

Costing just $634 and a lot of elbow grease, their kitchen went from this:

to this:

What they did:

  • tore up the linoleum and refinished the hardwood floors
  • painted the cabinets and replaced cabinet hardware
  • installed a space saving pot rack
  • painted the walls
  • DIY art

Full (and more) details and pictures here.

Then, as if that wasn’t exhausting enough (they’ve only been in their home since the beginning of the year!), they did a guest bedroom makeover.  Here it is before:

Don’t rub your eyes.  You’re seeing the same room – here it is now:

What they did:

  • Sanded and re-stained and sealed the floor
  • Sanded the stars on the walls and repainted
  • Furnished/Decorated – using furniture they mostly already had and great bargain shopping
  • DIY art

Cost breakdown and more details here.

Mike and Katrina also entered their “Easter Bunny bathroom” into True Value’s Design SOS contest.  You can vote and view all entries at http://www.startrightstarthere.com/.  Mike and Katrina’s entry is #10!

I was one of the bloggers selected by True Value to work on the DIY Squad. I have been compensated for my time commitment to the program as well as my writing about my experience. I have also been compensated for the materials needed for my DIY project. However, my opinions are entirely my own and I have not been paid to publish positive comments.
