I love this project (but click her button to check out more too!) from Crystal at
Ugly Mirror From the 80’s Turned Chalkboard
The Process:
* Removed the mirror and replaced with plexiglass
* Painted plexiglass with chalkboard paint
* Primed the frame
* Spray painted it white
* Dry brushed it with dark stain
* Replaced the red velvet with burlap
* Let the frame dry, then distressed it with sander
This project took less than a day to complete and it was super easy.
Ready for the reveal? Big difference eh?

Wow, that is an amazing transformation! Thanks for blogging about it!
Did you hear that frame say AHHHHH when you were finished. I was a hairdresser for 24 years and customers were always excited after a new stlye. I grin when I finish a piece now and just imagine it saying ahh or thank you. ( I am not crazy….I know furniture can not think or talk) muahhhahahahah
This is a good illustration of what a little creativity can yield. Can you imagine how much a store would charge for the new and improved piece?
that gives me an idea for a mirror I have laying around! I never thought to paint over it! genius!

I must have seen this idea either here or another place, because I know I didn't come up with this fab idea. But I did replicate it a few months ago! Of course I was too over zealous to take a before pic, but you can view the after pic here:

We used a drawer slide from a previous project and glued it to the bottom for a nifty chalk holder.
What a smart idea for an old mirror! Very shabby-chic. I think for my own kitchen I'm going to tweak this idea to create a more Italian restaurant-type chalkboard menu for my kitchen. Thanks for sharing!
Oh my goodness! How fabulous! Love it! I'm going to attempt a similar project…do i need to sand before priming? Could you just do it for me?:D
This is great, I really love it. I'm going to have to try that stain over paint technique. Thanks for the inspiration!
people are seriously crafty. I would've taken one look at the original mirror and shuttered 😉
What a great improvement! I think I would not have even picked it up, thinking it was just far too ugly.
L.O.V.E. it!!!
So cute!!
WOW! I want one! What a difference. It's gorgeous!!
I also recently turned an ugly mirror into a pretty chalkboard. Every time I look at it I smile – it's one of my favorite pieces in my family room! (And much better than the whiteboard we used to use!)
I think this went from completely and utterly BLAH! to INCREDIBLY BEAUTIFUL! AWESOME AWSOME JOB!
